Foreword LNG: SOURCES AND FUELLING STATION AVAILABILITY Public LNG stations: Spain: 5 in operation(barcelona, Lérida, Guadalajara, Castellón, Guipuzcoa), 3 under construction (Girona, Taragona, Zaragoza) Italy: 1 in operation (Cuneo) Nederland and Belgium: 1 (Oss), 1 under construction Sweden: 1 (Göteborg) in operation, 2 under construction United Kingdom: 1 under construction Privately owned or mobile LNG Stations (owned for instance by LNG distributors and fleet owners) exist all over Europe and are currently being used by operators for refueling LNG and Dual Fuel vehicles 6
Foreword LNG: BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY 7
Rationale CNG Vehicles have a range limited to Km. LNG expands the range at up to 750 km. opening the use of natural gas vehicles to long distances. More over, LNG extracted directly from a LNG terminal is cheaper than CNG. The availability of LNG does not depend on a gas pipeline.
Rationale 1 lt diesel <> 1,8 lt LNG 1 lt diesel <> 5 lt CNG 200 bar 9
Technical Facts Methane is stored on-board in a cryogenic tank (-125º C, 11 bar) and is delivered to the engine as CNG, after being heated and evaporated in a heat exchanger Two main reasons to have LNG on board as opposed to only CNG: 1) much better range/weight ratio than CNG and 2) fuel price Relief valves Filling nozzle (tank built-in) Economizer shut-off valve vaporizer liquid gas 10
Technical Facts LNG cryogenics - Filling up the LNG tank Tank is filled-up with liquid phase, at stablished pressure, which determines temperature. A second hose is previously used to extract hot gas from the tank and to ensure desired final pressure in the tank. Filling hose Venting hose
Technical Facts REGULATIONS No official regulations in Europe at the moment ISO Standards are in process: ISO/TC22 SC 25 Road vehicles using gaseous fuel WG 4 Fuel system components of vehicles propelled by LNG.. components ISO CD Road vehicles - LNG fuel system ISO CD Road vehicles - LNG refueling connector ISO/TC 252 CNG and LNG Filling Station WG 2 LNG and LCNG refueling stations. ISO/TC 220 LNG Cryogenic vessels ISO DIS LNG fuel tanks for vehicles. Roadmap Following ISO TC22SC25 standards Including LNG-standards in EEC-UN R110. LNG Task Force running USA Regulations SAE J-2343 NFPA-52
Technical Facts REGULATIONS Simulated fire: 10 min. No CEE official regulations exist for vehicle homologation at the moment (ISO workgroups very active, normative foreseen 2014) Reference Normative: EEC-UN R110/115 USA LNG Standars: NFPA52 & SAE System level Homologation: Each singular component is homologated according to R110 and CNG regulations and normative LNG tank is designed and homologated according to LNG transportation tanks normative + related CNG normative (e.g. typical acceleration cases for CNG bottles) Whole system homologation by similarity to CNG + LNG components 10 metres height drop Vehicle level Homologation: Homologation for each vehicle (application of homologated LNG system to each unit) 13

Conclusions CNG vehicles will remain the best solution to reduce at the lowest levels the pollulants emitted by ICE. Diesel vehicles Euro-6 will be technologically more complex than CNG NG engines are very well positioned to new air quality parameters like NO2,PM2,5 or PAH (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) Greenhouse reduction targets will increasingly affect the transport. NG offers 5-8% less CO2 emitted then diesel in road operation. H2-NG blends and biomethane possibilities LNG is the solution for long distance transport. Its development will depend on the development of the service network, but more importantly grid density. The beginnings will be regular services based on a minimum core network In this segment, the economy is over the ecology. The total operation cost is the main target. The price difference between diesel and natural gas will be the turning point. Marketing, safety, security, client preferences, public acceptance of CNG/LNG as a vehicle fuel
