3 More than 70,000 futures have started at Kirkwood... Yours can be one of them! Prepare for an exciting career in the hospitality and tourism industry! At Kirkwood, you ll learn from the best, working alongside gourmet chefs at The Class Act Restaurant and professional hoteliers at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center. Students fill training and support roles that match their progress through our programs. They serve as chefs, concierges, caterers, supervisors, guest room attendants, restaurant servers and bell staff. Taking teaching to the next level, our Hospitality Arts programs feature block curriculum. For example, instead of meeting twice a week for 16 weeks, you might meet five days a week for six weeks. This schedule fully immerses you in specific topics, allows for better continuity in content and sequential topic presentation. There are times when students are required to be in class on weekends, in order to gain experience during The Hotel s busiest times. Our graduates find work in everything from casual and fine dining restaurants, to casinos and large food corporations, locally, across the United States and internationally. Once they leave our programs, they will be even better prepared to enter the workforce. For more information call or

4 Culinary Arts 2-year AAS degree Featuring seasonal breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, dining at The Class Act is a delicious one-of-a-kind experience. The Class Act also serves as a real-time, real-world teaching environment for Kirkwood s groundbreaking Culinary Arts program. Our menus are designed differently, far more creatively, in response to our teaching responsibility. Our guests have very high expectations for what is prepared here, so you will learn culinary arts in a real-world setting. You will receive more than one full year of faculty-directed lab instruction. Then, put your training to work by planning, preparing and serving at catered events at The Kirkwood Center. Students are required to purchase professional uniforms and tools to use when in labs and kitchens. Field trips to various food service establishments and an optional trip to the industry s national convention are also included in the course of study. International travel and education opportunities are available for culinary students. This program is fully accredited by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Accrediting Commission. You ll have the opportunity to earn nationally recognized certification upon completion of the program.
