(12) Course Specification 1- Course Data Course Code: IS341 Specialization: Course Title: Enterprise Network Management No. of Instructional Units: Academic Year/Level: Lecture 2 Practical 2 2- Course Aim The aim of this course is to clarify the main principles of enterprise network management. Introducing the concepts and techniques of network management including common management protocols, management dimensions, service level management, and management metrics. Finally, addressing advanced issues faced in network management. 3- Intended Learning Outcome a- Knowledge and Understanding At the end of the course, the student will be able to: a1) describe recent trends in network management and appreciate current and new research directions in the area of network management. a2) recognize network management concepts, and identify the complexity of developing network management policies. 2 b- Intellectual Skills On completion of this course, students should be able to: b1) carry out and use techniques to manage enterprise networks. b2) analyze the requirements for management networked systems and know the network management architecture. c- Professional Skills At the end of the course, the student will be able to: c1) apply and implement good network management policies. c2) use tools for working with different network management protocols. d- General Skills At the end of the course, the student will be able to: d1) clarify basic ingredients of network management and define network management functions. 3 4- Course Content Introduction to network management Basic ingredients of network management The dimensions of management Common management Protocols SLA and network monitoring MPLS network management MPLS management interface GMPLS provisioning and management policies Foundation of policy management SLA and network monitoring 5- Teaching and Learning Methods Lectures: Two hours per week, staff members teach students through: Power point presentation of each lecture topics, brief discussion with students, and final summarization using the available teaching tools. Practical: Two hours per week for all students, supervised by staff members. Students will develop apps using Java networking. Students will also practice using network management protocols. Self-learning: Students will prepare presentation about different topics to part in the educational process. Seminars: Seminars will be held for discussing new trends. 6- Teaching and Learning Methods for Students with Special Needs 7- Student Assessment: Page 3 of 6
4 a- Procedures used: All examinations will be conducted under honor code regulations of the faculty of computer science and informatics and according to SCU academic policies. Page 4 of 6
5 b- Schedule: Written exams: To assess the knowledge, understanding and intellectual skills, the exam paper will include essay questions covering variable topics of the course suitable to allowed time. The marking of answer will be done anonymously. Oral exams: To assess the knowledge, understanding, intellectual and general skills: Graduate are randomly distributed between staff members and external examiners, the exam will be conducted through free discussion covering the course topics. Practical exams: To assess practical and professional skills: The practical exam is carried under supervision of staff members within allowed enough time.
