3 3 A. Introduction The objective of the following document is to present the user guide for Fractalia Manager and facilitate its handling by the users. This manual details all the possible options and actions that the user can find or take. B. Working Description Fractalia Manager is a robust platform to administer, control and give support to distributed computer networks. Fractalia Manager s main functions are: Unattended distribution of software. Instant Recovery System: technology of local or remote recovery of machines. Inventory of hardware and software assets: allows the control of the state of the machines in a quick and efficient way. Remote control: provides support and allows the control of the state of the machines in a quick and efficient way without travel. C. Platform Manual The Fractalia Manager platform has a user interface based on Microsoft smart client technology. A smart client consists of a traditional Windows application that provides the user with an interface to access a web services based system, maintaining the advantages of traditional web clients, such as the absence of installation on the client machine, operation through Internet and automatic updates. The Fractalia Manager platform is multi-company, that is to say, each one of the companies registered on the platform will have their own group of terminal units, invisible to the rest of the companies. Each one of these terminal groups will contain the terminals that have been registered. A terminal can be a computer ( ) or a mobile ( ). The following actions can be made via the Fractalia Manager platform on the terminals: In the computers, all the actions described in the manual can be performed In the mobiles, you can do unattended distribution of software, limited remote actions, hardware and software inventories and remote control. A group of terminals can contain both terminals and/or groups of terminals. 1. Access to the platform Access to the platform is via the configured Internet browser, introducing the URL that gives access to the platform in the browser s address bar (Figure 1):

Access to the platform Click on "Run and the system will launch the application "click once." This application carries out the following actions: Checks that the application Fractalia Manager (IRM) exists in the machine. (Figure 3) Figure 3. Verification of the existence of IRM If it exists, it checks that the version that is in the client machine is the same as the one in the browser and if it is not, downloads it. (Figure 4 and Figure 5)

6 6 Figure 7. Authentication 2. Authentication modes There are three modes of authentication: Master: is the user that has control over the administrators and users of the companies. If you access the platform with this user, you can create common updates for all the companies created in IRM. Administrator: is in charge of the maintenance of the terminals for a particular company created in IRM. User: is the user that has access to the platform with the privileges assigned by the administrator of the company created in IRM. 3. Authentication as master When registering as the master user, Figure 8 is displayed where you can select two options: Register as administrator or user of one of the companies. If you register with this option you can access the platform (see section A.6) and perform all the actions on the terminals that are allowed for the user with which you have registered. Register with master privileges. If you register with this option, you can create groups of common updates for all the companies. Figure 8. Master authentication options
7 7 4. Modules for master 1. Principal module Figure 9 shows the principal module for the master user. Figure 9. Principal module for master user The master module is divided in two zones marked with red rectangles in Figure 9. Platform menu Figure 10. If you press on this (Figure 11) is displayed giving the option of modifying your access password. The access password length must be bigger than 6 and less than 15 characters. Figure 11. Autorefresh configuration In order to activate the autorefresh you must mark the checkbox, select if want the time in minutes or seconds and elect th e autorefresh time with 2. Secondary module 2.1 Remote Updates Management The sub module is shown in Figure 14. The updates and groups of common updates for all the companies registered in IRM are created in this sub module. These updates will be distributed by the company administrators as indicated in section

Management Sub module (Collapse All): Collapses all the directories of the main tree. (Expand All): Expands all the directories of the main tree. (Adjust columns): the columns are adjusted to the size of the data saved in each one of the registers. (Refresh): Refreshes the main tree. In some cases, it is necessary to refresh so that the changes made are displayed in the tree. SelfHelp Preloaded Solutions: a group of solutions generated, by default, on installing the server. These solutions can be executed from the SelfService application. (See section E.4) FirefoxFixer: cleans the history, cookies and temporary files. IEFixer: cleans the history, cookies and temporary files. NetFixer: enable and disable the network interface. TerminalDisablingPacket: update that disables the machine, deleting the file Hal.dll in C:\Windows\System32. To assign it to a terminal you would have to create a new group of updates with this update (see more below) and assign it from the company where the terminal is located. (see section C) : The groups of updates are created, in which you will agglutinate the updates. A window is displayed where you must introduce the name of the package and, optionally its description, assign the updates that you wish to include and the priority of the package (Figure 16).
10 10 Group Data: insert the update characteristics and select the priority of the download and the updates that are going to be assigned to the group. Figure 16. New Update Group Name: the name of the group of updates, maximum 50 characters. Description: the description of the group of updates, maximum 50 characters. This field is optional. The priorities of the update groups are high, medium and low, being downloaded first those of high priority, then those of medium and later those of low. To assign an update to an update group, it is necessary to drag the download from Available updates to Assigned updates. If you edit the group of updates (See later in this section), Terminal assigned to this group will display the terminals to which you have assigned the group of updates (Figure 17). You can cancel the assignment of the terminals selecting the field "Del" of the terminal or in the way explained in the Assignment tab. Figure 17. Terminals assigned to this group

Force inventory of Hardware and Software: Forces a hardware and software inventory of the terminal that has been assigned the action. Immediately wake up bandwidthmetermodule: Wakes up, immediately, the module that measures the bandwidth of a terminal group. 12 12 Immediately wake up updates modules: Wakes up, immediately the Update module that is in pause. Selecting the action displays a message that the operations have been correctly sent (Figure 129). Restore the last Recovery Point: This directly restores the last Recovery Point of the terminal that has been assigned the action. NOTE: This operation cannot be done with mobiles. Resume the process of downloading updates: Continues the download process that was paused previously. Send a callback signal: Send a signal via the Callback port, when the terminal receives this signal it does not wait for the polling time but immediately executes the assigned operations. This signal has to be sent via an intermediate terminal that has enabled remoting by proxy. NOTE: This operation cannot be done with mobiles. Set Recovery point as base line: sets the Recovery Point in Figure 130 as baseline eliminating the recovery points prior to that selected. Figure 21. Creates a system command: On selecting this operation, Figure 131 is displayed and the Windows command that is inserted is executed with the SYSTEM user. (Windows XP)

Insert a command to run Subscribe to terminal: register a terminal in the server SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) so that the Fractalia Manager platform server can enquire as to its status. NOTE: This operation cannot be done with mobiles and it needs the terminal to be equipped with Intel Corwin Springs technology. Wake up terminal: sends this signal to make a terminal that is in Sleep status active. NOTE: This operation cannot be done with mobiles and it needs the terminal to be equipped with Intel Corwin Springs technology. Do a Recovery Point: makes a recovery point for the terminal that has been assigned this action. Selecting this option displays Figure 133, in which a name must be inserted for the new Recovery Point. Figure 24. Selecting this option displays Figure 134, to select the Recovery Point that is going to be restored.

Set Restore ON Start ON or OFF: Choose if the terminal to which the action is assigned restores the latest Recovery Point after rebooting or not. Selecting this option displays Figure 136, in which you must choose to restore the terminal each time it is rebooted or not. Figure 27. A window (Figure 36) is displayed consisting of three tabs: General: the features of the update are inserted with the actions to be carried out: installation with or without execution, with or without copying in a path in the terminal or uninstallation of the update. Figure 36. New Update General (Install information) Name: Insert the name of the terminal, 50 characters maximum. Hash: You cannot modify this field. It will be created when creating the update. Description: insert the description of the update, 50 characters maximum. This field is optional. You can select three actions to take with the update: Install information: introduce the information relating to the update installation (Figure 36) Actions: Mark the actions you want to take after downloading the update. The actions are: Execute after download: Execute the update after the download. If you mark this option, it is obligatory to fill a valid detection option. File Destination: If you want to keep the update somewhere else, introduce the path where you want to keep it. Parameters: introduce the executable parameters, if you have them. Command: execute the command inserted in this field. Upload Package: Choose the file that you want to upload to the server. Upload Information: Introduce the path where the information (.ini) of the package to upload is found. The introduction of this path is optional. Uninstall information: insert the information relating to update uninstallation. (Figure 37)
20 20 Figure 37. Update General (Uninstall information) Actions: Mark the actions you want the update to take. The actions are: Uninstall when unassign: the update uninstalls once it has unassigned the terminal. Delete in file destination: the update is eliminated from the file UpdatesProccessed.xml.upd that is in %PROGRAMFILES%\Fractalia Manager\4.8\ and from the File Destination in the case that this field has been filled in. Detecting: introduce the information relating to the detection of an update in the terminal where it has been installed. (Figure 38)
21 21 Figure 38. Update General (Detecting) Detecting: detection modes to know if an update is already installed in the equipment. There are three detection modes: Default: controls that the update is in the IRM updates download path. File: checks that the file path inserted in the File field exists. Registry key: checks that the registry key inserted in the Registry key field exists. URLs: alternative URLs are displayed where the terminal can download the update if the URL is not available. It works as redundancy server, that is to say, if one of the servers where the update is found is not available, it will go to the other one to carry out the download of the update. In Figure 39 the URL has been added, this contains the same update that you uploaded to the main server. In case the main server, where you uploaded the update yqunimornpibdka.jpg, is not available, the client will try to carry out the download from the alternative route
22 22 Name: insert a URL alternative. URL s list: list of URL s available. Figure 39. New Update URLs Insert an alternative URL in the field Name and press "Add" to go on adding more sources for the update, in the URL's list panel. If a URL of the list is selected, it can be deleted by pressing the button Delete. Groups: you can assign an update to one or several groups already created by dragging one or a group from Available Groups to Assigned Groups, in this way, the groups that are in Assigned Groups will contain the update. All requisites that are added by pressing, are shown in the lower panel of the tab (Figure 42). The requisites can be eliminated from the update in this panel by pressing on the requisite to be eliminated. Figure 42. Requisites added to the update Clicking on a group with the right-hand button opens a menu that allows you to create a new group of updates and edit, view or delete the group you have clicked.

Authentication as administrator When you access the platform for the first time as administrator, you must carry out three indispensable actions so that the operation of the platform is correct: Create an inventory Template. Create an inventory Schedule, or calendar. These two actions are necessary because the setup of the groups of terminals establishes a template and the periodicity with which the inventory is carried out. Create a timetable, or schedule, for downloads. With the Schedule, the frequency of update downloads allocated to each terminal is established. 6. Modules for administrator 1. Main module Figure 43 shows the module that is common for all the secondary modules of the platform: Figure 43. Main module The master module is divided into three areas, marked in Figure 43 with rectangles. If you click on it, another window opens that gives the option to change the access passwords (Figure 45). The length of the access key has to be bigger than 6 and smaller than 15 characters.

Terminal tree We can distinguish two types of terminal tree: IRM tree (IRM Groups). Contains the structure of groups created directly in IRM. As displayed in Figure 47, the main tree is in this area, consisting of the root (IRM Groups) and their subfolders. The subfolders of the root form the groups created by the users and the terminals registered in the platform. AD (Active Directory) synchronization tree, imports the structure of groups and equipment directly from an AD server. As displayed in Figure 48, the possibility exists that another root directory exists denominated Active Directory. This directory is generated when synchronizing the Active Directory with the platform. (See AD synchronizer of the Appendix)

28 28 (Expand All): Expands all the directories of the main tree. (Terminal Alias): The green colour indicates that the name of the terminal that appears is the alias. (Terminal Alias): The grey colour indicates that the name of the terminal is the name of the machine. (Style): The style that the root directories are displayed is changed. To return to the previous style click on the button again. (Sort): Puts the groups in alphabetic order. (Refresh): The main tree is updated. In some cases, it is necessary to refresh to show the changes that have been made in the tree. (Search): Displays the window of Figure 57, in the lower part of area 2. (Dynamic Groups): Displays Figure 60, in the lower part of area 2. Tree display area (Figure 50) Figure 50.Tree display area In this area, the groups where the terminals are going to go can be created, the users are registered with the client configurator (see the configurator section of the IRM Client manual), and certain actions can be carried out with groups or terminals. (See section 2.3.3). Click on ; so that the root directory or the groups are displayed, and click on ; so that they fold up again. On the right of the group name [X,Y] is displayed, X being the number of subgroups that the group contains and Y the number of terminals in the group. Event To access the events, click on in the platform menu. In the events, the actions carried out by the selected terminal are displayed.

IRS: The events of the actions that are carried out in the platform with the application Instant Recovery System are displayed. Remote Updates: The events of the download of updates are displayed. Remote Control: The remote control events are displayed. VPro: Displays the Vpro events. Selections of the filters so that the events are displayed from the selected start and finish dates. Filter of events by selection of dates If you click on the tabs "From" or "To", in the image on the left in Figure 53, a calendar is displayed, as shown in the right-hand image of Figure 53 so that you can select the dates by which you wish to filter the events. Automatic refresh of event information To make the information window refresh automatically you must mark the check box "Auto Refresh", mark the time that you want for the automatic refresh and later click on the button "OK." Make searches of groups created and terminals registered in the platform. To make a search you have to select terminals or groups in the drop down menu (Figure 57), and then write what you are looking for in the search field (Figure 58).

The result consists of those terminals or groups whose name coincides, totally or partially, with the character chain introduced in the search field (Figure 57). Dynamic Groups Figure 59. Search results Access the dynamic groups by pressing in the action menu of the terminals tree. Dynamic groups allow you to create groupings of terminals to carry out actions with the secondary modules on these groups and not on the initial grouping. Figure 60. Dynamic Groups window
32 32 Two areas are displayed: Action menu (Figure 61), with the same features as the action menu in Figure 49 except that the "Terminal Alias", "Search" and "Dynamic Groups" buttons are not shown, it also includes: Figure 61. Action Menu (Collapse All): Collapses all the directories of the main tree. (Expand All): Expands all the directories of the main tree. : returns to the initial style. On the contrary, to the menu of Figure 49, to return to the previous style you need to press this button and not the one that appears on the right. (Style): The style that displays the root directories is changed. To return to the previous style press the button again. (Sort): Puts the groups in alphabetic order. (Refresh): The main tree is updated. In some cases, it is necessary to refresh to show the changes that have been made in the tree. : If you create groups with terminals you need to apply the changes because if you do not, all the terminals created in the group will disappear as soon as you press update in the action menu of Figure 61 or you close and open up Dynamic Groups again. Area for creation of groups (Figure 62). The terminals can be assigned to groups manually (Manual Dynamic Groups) or by choosing conditions so that only those terminals that comply appear in the created group (Dynamic Query's Groups). Creation of groups Manual Dynamic Groups You can create a Manual Dynamic Group and move the terminals and groups, with or without terminals, which you find in the displayed area of the tree (Figure 50) to this group. Create Manual Dynamic Groups by following these steps: Using the right-hand button of the mouse click on Manual Dynamic Groups and display the menu Figure 63. Figure 63. Menu Dynamic Groups

Creation of a group Insert the name (Name), 50 characters maximum, and, optionally, the description (Description), 100 characters maximum, and press "OK". The result of creating the group "ECC" is the following: Figure 65. Example Manual Dynamic Groups creation Once created the Manual Dynamic Groups, you can drag terminals and groups with or without terminals from the upper terminal tree. Remember that when you carry out any of these actions you must press "Apply" to save the changes. Dynamic Query s Groups A Dynamic Query's Group is a group where the terminals that comply with certain search criteria appear. Create a Dynamic Query's Group by following these steps: Using the right-hand button of the mouse, click on Dynamic Query s Groups and display the menu Figure 63. An Item is a search condition and is composed of the following fields: Default: select the option that you want: AND: The terminals are shown that comply with the conditions of the previous Items and comply with the current Item that has been inserted. OR: The terminals are shown that comply with the conditions of the previous Items or with the current Item that has been inserted. AND NOT: The terminals are shown that comply with the conditions of the previous Items and do not comply with the current Item that has been inserted. OR NOT: the terminals are shown that comply with the conditions of the previous Items or do not comply with the current Item that has been inserted. This field is only active starting from the second Item. Keywords: the key to filter the terminals that are registered in the platform. Terminal Name: Name of registered terminals in the platform. Private IP: Private IP of registered terminals in the platform. Public IP: Public IP of registered terminals in the platform. IRM Version: Version of the platform on which the terminals are registered Manufacturer: Manufacturer of registered terminals in the platform. Operating System: Operating system installed in the registered terminals in the platform. CPU: Processor installed in the registered terminal in the platform. Memory (Megabytes): Memory installed in the registered terminals in the platform. System partition size: Size of the system partition in each of the registered terminals in the platform. Available free space in system: Free available space in the system of the registered terminals in the platform. Rollback version: version of the rollback that each platform registered terminal has installed. Status (1 or 0): status of the registered terminals in the platform. The only action you can do is to eliminate the group from the Manual Dynamic Groups, but eliminating it from the Manual Dynamic Groups does not eliminate it from the group of terminals (Figure 72). The "Serial Number" field is inactive because it is generated automatically when creating the group. This field cannot be modified when editing. In the Configuration tab (Figure 75), select the available inventory type and recurrence, (See section C.3.2.6), and the monitoring frequency for (Inventory), downloads (Updates), (Remote Actions) and bandwidth (Bandwidth Test), the default time is 5 minutes (this means that all terminals in the group will consult the server every 5 minutes for instructions). In case this fails, the default time for repetition of the consultation is 1 minute (this means that, by default, all the terminals of the group will retry the communication to the server to obtain instructions every minute). Then select the number of attempts in case of failure, by default 2

39 39 With the option (Edit), you can modify the data fields of Generic, Configuration, Connection Type and Information, but not the (Serial Number) field, which is disabled because the serial number is randomly generated when creating the group. With View, you can see all the data that has been inserted in the tabs. With Delete, you can delete the group on which you pressed. When deleting the group, the subgroups and the terminals that belonged to that group are also deleted. With Select all children you select all the children descending from the group. With Unselect all children you unselect all the children descending from the group. Actions for terminals It is important to know that the customers never register directly from the platform but through the IRM installation software, inserting the license number. If you have several groups and terminals, you can move a terminal from one group to another by expanding the group to which you want to move the terminal (Figure 82) and then move the terminal to that group, that is to say, drag&drop can be used. When you carry out this action, a confirmation window will be shown (Figure 83) and if accepted, the terminal will move to the group (Figure 84).

(See Synchronizer of the AD in the Appendix). The only actions that can be carried out on the terminals and the groups of the Active Directory, if you click on one of them, are (Edit) and (View). 42 42 Actions with the panels The actions that you can carry out with the panels are two: To Pin / Unpin: in the higher right corner of the panels, is shown; that allows you to pin the panel in the main module. If the panel is already pinned in the main module, is shown in the higher right corner. The panels where you can carry out this action are: (Search) search of terminals or groups of terminal units, (Events), (Dynamics Groups) and a terminal tree. Figure 86. If all the modules are not shown, the arrows at the end ( ) are used to scroll the tabs left to right or right to left depending on the modules that are hidden.

44 User Configuration The module User Configuration gives the administrator the possibility of creating users with limited permissions and the secondary modules to be shown to them. Only the administrator can access this module. Two user types exist that have access to the platform: Administrator: the administrator of the company does not have restrictions in the use of the platform. Only one administrator is created per company. Rest of users: created by the administrator, who is in charge of the creation of the permissions for each one of the secondary modules. (See section ) Figure 89. Menu Options of User Configuration There are three distinct sub-modules that belong to the User Configuration module: Options Menu, User Settings and User Permissions Groups Options Menu The administrator is in charge of the creation of users and the allocation of permissions for each one of the secondary modules. : opens the Agent window (Figure 90) to create a new user.

User Options Menu To create a new user with the menu option is the same as creating a user by pressing the "New User" button User Settings Allows you to carry out certain customization adjustments of the platform for each user. If this option is not selected the terminal tree is completely loaded from the beginning. View Terminal alias: if the option is marked, the Terminal aliases are visible, whenever the platform is run, the icon of the alias is enabled ( ). Language: the user's language is selected. To select the language, one has to double click on the field and a list of the languages that can be selected will be displayed. Figure 95. When they apply the changes and the user logs in to the platform, the groups marked by the administrator will appear in the tree. If you double click on a user in the terminal tree, the groups are marked that are associated with that user. the user. : apply the changes of the groups that will form part of the terminal tree of 2.3 Computers In the Computer module the status of the terminals is displayed, you can change or save the configuration and take remote control. There are seven distinct sub-modules: Terminals, Configuration, Actions, BandWidth Test, Annotations, Terminals vpro and AMT Services. Figure 97. Choose the preferences of the terminal that you want to display: all, public IP, private IP, Fractalia Manager client version, VNC port, manufacturer, operating system, version of the rollback, processor, state of the terminal, tag, size of the RAM, size and the free space in the Windows partition.

A test can be in four states: (IDLE) : ready to download the resource or start the test. (BLOCKED) : it is downloading the resource and no other terminal can make a request. (COMPLETED) : the test has finished. (OUT_OF_INTERVAL) : no terminal of the selected terminal group has started the download before time out. URL: shows the address of the resource being used for the test. Size to download: shows the size of the resource to be downloaded. Pending download: displays the number of resources pending download. Time out: shows the time for the end of the test, if no terminal has made a request to download the resource. Next time out: shows the time for the end of the test if a terminal has started to download but is taking longer than the time shown in this option. Create date: shows the creation date of the test. Workers (terminals): shows all the terminals belonging to the terminal group shown in the Schedule Groups pane. Schedule: shows the Schedule employed for the test. Reset Terminal: resets the terminal. Font Size: select the application font size. Send Key Code: Send Key Code: sends a key press to the terminal. Exit: closes the IRM AMT Remote Control application. Remote Command Normal Boot: switches on the equipment even if it is turned off. Power Up: switches on the equipment even if it is turned off. Power Down: switches off the equipment when it is turned on. Remote Boot to BIOS Setup: starts the equipment in the BIOS. Remote Boot to Redirect Floppy: starts the equipment and redirects to the disk of the equipment making the remote control. Remote Boot to Redirect CD: starts the equipment and redirects to the CD of the equipment making the remote control.
82 82 Disk Redirect Remoted Reboot: starts the equipment even if it is switched off accessing the Instant Recovery System menu by remote control. Custom Command: sends a command to the equipment Redirect active: activates redirecting to the floppy or CD of the equipment making the remote control. Redirect Start: selects redirecting mode. Change Target Floppy: selects the disk unit that you want to redirect to. Change Target CD: selects the CD unit that you want to redirect to. Show Redirection State: shows the state of the redirection. Connection state Shows the connection status with the Serial Over LAN. There are three states: Connecting, Connected and Disconnected. Remote Control Monitoring Presents the visualization of the remote control of the terminal that has the vpro. 2.4 Remote Updates The module Remote Updates will manage the updates and the groups of updates. Figure 180. Assignment of Remote Updates A group is formed by one or more updates to be assigned to the groups of terminal units and/or the terminals belonging to the terminal tree (IRM Groups and Active Directory) or Dynamic Groups (Manual Dynamic Groups and Dynamic Query's Groups). When a group of updates is assigned to a group of terminals, the group of updates will be downloaded to all the terminals and existing groups in it.
83 83 If a group of updates has been downloaded and you introduce a new update in the group of updates, this will be downloaded automatically in the terminal without the need for any action. In addition, if you modify some update and the modification has a change of the update key (hash), this downloads again. When downloads are carried out two files are generated: UpdateShared.upd.xml: stores the information of the updates downloaded. This file is in: %PathIRM%\p2p. Where % PathIRM% is the path configured in the Configuration tab of the IRM client configurator, (see section E.3.1). UpdateProcessed.upd.xml: stores the information of the updates processed. This file is in: %PROGRAMFILES%\4.8\Fractalia Manager There are five sub modules in which you can assign, create and view the status of the downloads, check requisites and create updates: Assignment, Management, Update Status, Check requirements and Self Service Assignment The assignment of groups of updates to terminals and/or groups of terminals is carried out in this sub module (Figure 181). To assign a group of updates you must mark the checkbox of the group, terminal and/or terminals that you want to assign the group of updates to (Figure 181) and drag the group of updates from the window Available Update Groups to Assigned Update Groups (Figure 182). When the changes are applied, two things can happen, depending on whether the update group has an update with requisites or not. Figure 181. Select terminals and/or groups of terminal units

Once the update groups have been correctly assigned to the terminals, Figure 189 will be displayed. Figure 189. Group Data: insert the update characteristics and select the priority of the download and the updates are going to be assigned to the group. Figure 195. The priorities of the updates groups are high, medium and low, being downloaded first those of high priority, then those of medium and later those of low. If you edit the group of updates (See later in this section), Terminal assigned to this group will display the terminals to which you have assigned the group of updates (Figure 196). You can cancel the assignment of the terminals selecting the field "Del" of the terminal or in the way explained in the Assignment tab.

132 Remote Control Figure 280. Printout preview This module allows you to connect and to control remotely the machine of a terminal registered in the platform. Two remote control modes exist: Figure 281. Remote Control Assignment Direct: is used to connect with terminals that are in the same LAN as the server or in different networks, as long as the possibility exists to map public IPs: public ports to private IPs, private ports in the intermediate network elements. The clients have a VNC server listening in a port (default 5000). When a computer with access to the platform IRM executes remote control on another terminal, a direct connection is established between them. In some cases, a router may exist between the "viewer" equipment and the "controlled" equipment. In this case, to make a direct connection you need to map the router ports. In this situation, it is not advisable to use the connection in direct mode.

The clients have a VNC server listening in a port (by default 5000), but they also have the capacity to send "video VNC" as an output connection to any machine prepared to receive it (in this case the Repeater WAN). Additionally, a machine placed outside of the network, denominated Repeater WAN is located in some network that does not have restrictions for mapping of ports. Figure 283. It is possible to enable a machine to be remotely controlled by either mode Repeater Management To access a terminal by remote control in Normal mode, the appropriate software for each mode must be installed and configured. (See Repeaters in the Appendix) Configuring equipment to carry out remote control consists of two phases: Installation of the repeater software in the machine that will be the repeater. Register this machine in the platform. This phase is done in the platform. In this module, the Normal mode must be registered in the platform. Figure 284. After that go to the Assignment tab, double click on the terminal over which you wish to establish remote control to display the terminal window and mark the Normal checkbox (Figure 289). Next press with the right-hand button of the mouse on the terminal and click on, and the Figure 290 will be shown, select the Normal mode, and in "Available Repeaters" the configuration that you have created for Repeater I in the Repeater Management tab, and press connect. Fractalia Manager Client (IRM Client) Manual The Fractalia Manager client is an agent with a set of modules that access the server to observe the changes that have happened and if some change has occurred in any of the modules, it carries out an action. Fractalia Manager is divided in two main modules: 1. Installation - Fractalia Manager Agent - Instant Recovery System First, the installers of existing clients: 1. IRM Core vx.x, Setup.exe: is the basic client installer (updates, remote control, remote actions ). Installing it, the services IRMService.exe and Winvnc.exe are created. Two folders are also created, in one to store libraries, client configuration files and images used, and the other to store the logs and the download updates, those downloaded or those that are downloading in that moment. Fractalia Manager is in the first folder, where the libraries are found, in %PROGRAMFILES%/Fractalia Manager/5.0/". The second folder, where the logs and updates are found, is in the path configured by the administrator. This folder contains three sub folders: Data: for storing files of information that are to be uploaded to the platform. log: for storing the platform events logs. p2p: contains two sub-folders: shared: for storing the updates downloaded. temporal: for storing the updates that are downloading. 2. IRM Local Configurator vx.x, Setup.exe: installs the local Fractalia Manager configurator. 3. IRM Security - Remote Control vx.x: installs the winvnc to perform remote control. 4. IRM Security - DeviceLock vx.x, Setup.exe: adds Devices functionality to the local Fractalia Manager configurator. 5. IRM Security IRS vx.x no irrollback_msi, Setup.exe: Takes charge of verifying there are no errors in the file system and optimises disk space. 6. IRM Security - Remote Configuration vx.x, Setup.exe: is used to change the local configuration of a terminal and assign configuration templates from the platform. 7. IRM Asset - Remote Actions vx.x, Setup.exe: installs the commands from the platform for remote actions for the terminal to which the action is assigned. 8. IRM Asset Updates Self Service vx.x, Setup.exe: installed so the updates can be downloaded without intervention by the platform administrator. 12. IRM Information - Bandwidth Meter vx.x: used to measure the terminal bandwidth via a resource download. 13. IRM Information - Hardware inventory vx.x, Setup.exe: installs so that the hardware inventory can be taken. 14. IRM Information - Process Monitor vx.x, Setup.exe: sends monitoring information of executed processes in the terminal system where it is installed. 15. IRM Information - URL Monitor vx.x, Setup.exe: sends information to the server of the monitoring of URLs viewed in the server navigator. 16. IRM Instant Notification System vx.x, Setup.exe: to realise remote commands instantly. 17. Fractalia Manager Corwin Corwin Springs: This is installed in machines that have the Intel Corwin Springs technology so as to be able to perform the actions that that technology permits. 18. IRM Security - IRS vx.x, Setup.exe. It is the basic application installer of the Instant Recovery System (IRS) application. The IRS folder is created in %PROGRAMFILES%/Fractalia Manager/5.0/". The executables of the actions that can be carried out with the application are found inside the IRS folder. (See Commands of the IRS system symbol in the Appendix) Double clicking the IRS installer displays a console where the initial configuration of the IRS is made. (Figure 310)

Initial configuration console If you want to protect a disk, you have to press the button, which will display Figure 311, where you will have to mark the disks that you want to protect and if you want to restore to a previous state each time that you reboot the machine (ROR). Disk Protection Next, you have to insert the IRS password, select the maximum number of recovery points that you are going to allow, if you wish to show the IRS menu when loading the operating system (Boot), if you wish to activate the password for a day (ODP) or if you wish to enable a one use password (OTP), if you wish to show a message, to restore to the baseline or restore the last recovery point in the case of lack of memory and if you want a strategy of writing of a copy in writing or redirect in writing. (Figure 312)(See section C of the Appendix for more information on the options)

In the first reboot, the retrieval system is connected and in the second reboot, the retrieval console is connected before loading the operating system. Figure 313. Instant Recovery System (IRS) Operation Instant Recovery System is an application that allows you to record images (Instant Recovery Point, IRP) of your machine, in the event of a critical error of Windows, a virus is inserted in the system, etc; it can restore your machine to a previous state so that the problems disappear.
150 150 The maximum number of IRPs that can be created is ten, the initial and nine more. When the maximum number of images exists and we want to create a new one, the first image created, not locked after the initial IRP (See section E.2.2), will be automatically removed. 1. Console prior to the loading of the operating system As soon as the machine is initiated, an option to access the Instant Recovery System is displayed (Figure 314). Figure 314. Option for access to the Instant Recovery System console Press F3 or D to access the IRS console in graphic mode, (Figure 315) will be displayed, in which a password must be inserted to show the Instant Recovery System console (Figure 316). Three password types exist to be able to access the system: Administrator's password that will never be facilitated to the normal user of IRS. ODP (One Day Password): a password is generated for one day. It must be requested from the system administrator. La OTP (One Time Password): a password is generated every time that you access the console. It must be requested from the system administrator, informing him/her of the code XXXXXXXX in Figure 316, and the administrator will give another key so that you can access the IRS console. Next, press the Esc key twice to start the restore. If you restore to an earlier state, all the later states will be lost unless they are protected.

On accepting, the IRS can uninstall or remove programs via the Control Panel Add or Remove programs. Figure 317. Instant Recovery System Console II If you mark the option "Use fixed", and restore a previous state (to ensure that it is possible to reboot the machine), the actual state is stored in a hidden space, before the restore, with a special snapshot reference, the snapshot fixed. The state stored can then be mounted in a virtual drive through the console or by means of the instruction VirtualDiskControl. Press F4 or F to access the IRS console in text mode, it will show (Figure 318) in which you must enter a password to display the Instant Recovery System console.

There are two distinct zones: System Units: The disk partitions existing in the machine and the actions that can be carried out with them are displayed. The partitions shown with this image protected. means that they are Mount / Unmount. A virtual disk drive is mounted with the content of the protected partition of a Recovery Point that you have selected previously. On pressing this button, the Figure 327 window is displayed. In this window, select the virtual disk where you will mount the selected Recovery Point disk. The disk can be mounted if a Recovery Point, is displayed to the left of the drive letter, if it cannot be mounted it will show drive will appear in red., and the letter of the Figure 327. To mount / unmount a Virtual Drive
156 156 When you have mounted a virtual disk drive and you press this button again, it will show the Figure 328 window again, and if you choose a virtual disk in which you have mounted a Recovery Point disk, you can unmount it by pressing "Unmount". To mount a virtual drive you must select a protected partition and the disk image of the content you want to mount. Recovery Point. All the actions that can be carried out on a Recovery Point (RP) are displayed. Create new. Creates an RP of the equipment, pressing this button displays a window to introduce the name of the new RP (Figure 328). The RP created is displayed as the one following the last RP created with the Figure 329 format. Figure 328. Description of Recovery Point Figure 329. Format of a new Recovery Point The maximum number of Recovery Points that can be created is 10, the initial one and nine more. When the maximum number of RPs exists and you want to create a new one, the first created RP, not locked after the initial, will be automatically deleted. Restore. Restores the selected RP in the equipment. When you restore an image remember that the later stored images will be lost, whether they are locked or not. When you restore an RP, the machine will reboot to establish the new RP. Delete. Deletes the selected image. The initial image and the locked images cannot be deleted. Figure 330. Delete an IRS image Lock / Unlock. Locks or unlocks an image. If an image is locked, it cannot be deleted, neither manually nor automatically, nor by substitution of the RP. It can only be deleted by restoring a previous one. Move baseline. Moves the initial image to another previously selected image. When you move the initial image remember that the prior stored images will be lost, locked or not.

Modify the number of recovery points that you had configured by default on installing the IRS. Fractalia Manager Agent (IRM Agent) Configuration This is an agent with a set of modules that provide a series of capabilities: download of updates, remote control, inventory, etc Configurator This application configures the client modules. Each module has its setup tab and all the changes carried out in the configurator will be reflected in the files Config.xml and Updates.xml (see Configuration files in the Appendix) and vice versa. In this last case, it is necessary to open the configurator to observe the changes. Figure 333. Mode of access to the configurator When accessing the configurator a password may be requested, depending on the permissions that the user has. If the IPM module and some IRM modules are not installed, not all the options will be shown in the configurator.
158 158 IRM Configuration Configure the general characteristics for the user and the platform (Figure 334). Figure 334. General Configuration of the configurator User The name of the terminal (name of the machine) is displayed, this cannot be modified from the configurator, configure the access password to the configurator, to be able to access the configurator of the terminal in the event that you are not accessing with administrator permissions. The IRM applications Windows, the configurator (See IRM configuration Files of the Appendix) and the IRS console can have three authentication types: One integrated with Windows. The administrator users do not need to insert a password. The IRM password, configured in this dialogue box. By default, the password is admin. The ODP password. A password generated for each day that must be requested from the system administrator. Central Platform Configure the Web Service address of the IRM central platform, with which the agents contact to monitor and interchange information and the delay before attempting reconnection with the Web Service, in the event the service fails or that the Service Web address is unavailable for the client.

If it is correct a window will be displayed informing you that the Service Web address is correct (Figure 335) and if not it will display a window informing you that the Service Web address is not correct (Figure 336). Central platform address incorrect Options Insert the path for sending data, another path for logs, a path for storage of the updates downloaded, the time for starting the service and the delay for rebooting the terminal. All files located in the folder of Send are sent to the platform. When the files are sent to the platform, they disappear from the folder Send. Every X seconds, as configured in Config.xml (See Configuration files in the Appendix), the folder is checked to see if it has a file to send to the platform. The start time is the delay before starting the IRM service, IRMService.exe after the start of the operating system. The restart time is the delay shown in the countdown window when the equipment must reboot for some action made in the platform. To save the changes press the button "Apply" in the lower right-hand corner. (Figure 337).
160 160 Proxy Figure 337. Changes made This is used to configure the Internet access proxy, when you can only connect one machine. That is, when there is only one IP address. In this tab (Figure 338), you configure: General Figure 338. Proxy configurator Activate proxy: to activate the proxy it is necessary to mark the checkbox. Proxy Server: insert the address of the proxy. Proxy port: insert the port of the proxy. Authentication This area is only activated when the "Activate proxy check box is marked. Activate authentication: If our proxy has authentication you need to mark the checkbox. User: insert the user configured in the server proxy. Password: insert the password configured in the server proxy. To save the changes press the button "Apply" in the lower right-hand corner. Remoting channel server (supports instant notification)
161 161 The remoting channel is used to carry out remote actions instantly. To be able to use this option it is necessary to insert the host, server port and the directory where the resource is to be found in this area. To save the changes press the button "Apply" in the lower right-hand corner. Terminal control port This area is only enabled when the checkbox Allow callback port is ticked. Port: insert the port that will transmit the Callback signal. Instant Recovery System On opening the Instant Recovery System, you can configure the password shown, although it is recommended not to modify it. This password is admin by default. To save the changes press the button "Apply" in the lower right-hand corner (Figure 339). Update Figure 339. Instant Recovery System of the configurator P2P is mainly based on sharing files of/for all the users. With this system, it is intended to ensure the availability of shared content, without which the network could not exist. The terminals have three download modes: P2P in LAN. The terminal is not connected directly with the server, it needs another terminal in the mode "Act as Proxy for other peers" so that this will communicate with the server and later send the requested package. Direct with the Server. The terminal communicates directly with the server, and it does not need an intermediate terminal to receive the update packages Acting as proxy for other peers. It acts as a "mirror", when it sees that a terminal in mode "P2P in LAN" is requesting an update, it passes the request to the server and then sends it
162 162 to the terminal that was requesting it. If this option is selected, you also have to mark the "Direct from Server" under the Type of download. This tab configures (Figure 340): Directories Figure 340. Configurator update Displays the paths where the packet description (ini), temporary (temp) and downloaded updates (shared) files are going to be stored. This path is configured in the Configuration tab of the client. Type of download These two checks are used to configure the terminal in P2P in LAN or Direct from Server modes. Share files with other terminals Configures the terminal to Act as proxy for other peers and the maximum size, in MegaBytes, of the shared directory (shared). Bandwidth control This option configures if you want to control the bandwidth of update uploads and/or downloads. The bandwidth is measured in bytes per second. To save the changes press the button "Apply" in the lower right-hand corner.
163 163 Devices Select the read and write permissions for each one of the devices shown in Figure 341. The possible options that exist are: : you can see and modify the content of the device. : you can see but you cannot modify the content of the device. : you can modify the content of the device. : you can neither see nor modify the device content. Figure 341.Devices To apply the changes on this tab, you must press the Apply button in the lower right hand part of Devices. License In this tab (Figure 342); the license of the terminal is activated in the platform. This is the step prior to registering the terminal inside a platform group so that it is visible in this group. There are two ways to register a terminal in the platform, depending on the checkbox that is marked:
164 164 Figure 342. Configurator license License The terminal is registered inside the group of the actual IRM tree, depending on the license number inserted. Until that moment, the terminal does not exist for the IRM platform. To register a terminal by licence in the platform, you need to know the serial number of the group in which we want to register, and insert it in the licence field in Figure 342. To obtain the serial number of the terminal it is necessary to access the platform and click on the group of terminal units in which you want to register the terminal with the right-hand button, and see the properties of the group in the Generic tab. If the serial number is not correct, a window will be displayed informing that the inserted serial number is not correct.

Panel of the state of a registered terminal After registering the terminal and having installed Instant Recovery System, if you press the Ok button of the configurator, you can establish a Recovery Point so as not to lose the setup of the terminal in the event of carrying out a restoration. 166 166 If the terminal is registered in the Active Directory and this is configured and synchronized correctly with the IRM platform (See AD Synchronizer in the Appendix), the terminal will be registered automatically in the Active Directory tree of the platform. 4. Self Service Operation Self Service is an application which lets the user, owner of the terminal, make update downloads that the administrator has assigned in the tab Self Service for Remote Updates. (See section C ) To do this the platform administrator has to create a user in the User tab (see section C ) inserting the electronic mail address that the user will use to register in the Self Service application. (Figure 348) Figure 348. 171 171 Solutions It is necessary to install the SelfHelp Preloaded Solutions updates group in the Fractalia Manager platform to show the solutions (Figure 358 and Figure 359). These contain the scripts that will be shown in the Solutions tab once they have been downloaded and installed. Figure 358. 173 Uninstallation 1. Instant Recovery System To uninstall Instant Recovery System from the line of commands access the address Ą%PROGRAMFILES%\4.8\IRSą The security is disabled on the disk that is activated when installing Instant Recovery System. You have four options: Disable.exe [ <disk-letter> <password> ] 0. This leaves the hard disk in its present state. Disable.exe [ <disk-letter> <password> ] 0 /u. This leaves the hard disk in its present state and when a session is started as Administrator IRS will be uninstalled. The process Add or Remove programs as explained below should be avoided. Disable.exe [ <disk-letter> <password> ] 1. This returns the hard disk to its state before the installation of the Iriscene Recovery System, which means that all applications and information stored in that disk will be lost. We return to the baseline state. Disable.exe [ <disk-letter> <password> ] X. This returns to state X of the Iriscene Recovery System, which implies losing all the applications installed and information stored in that disk after this state. The computer is reset so that the executed instructions have effect. On rebooting the computer, a message indicating that the IRS is being deactivated will be displayed (Figure 364). Figure 364. The protection of the disk is disabled Accessing the address Ą%PROGRAMFILES%\4.8\IRSą from the command line and executing Get Info, checks that the Iriscene Recovery System is disabled, if it shows an error, it has been correctly disabled. Access the Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, uninstall the Instant Recovery System program and reboot the computer.
174 174 Lastly, delete the Fractalia folder in %PROGRAMFILES%\4.8. As an alternative, you can uninstall the IRS by accessing this address Ą%PROGRAMFILES%\4.8\IRSą from the line commands and executing the following command: Disable 0 /u Fractalia Manager Agent To uninstall the client, click in the Control Panel Add or remove programs (Figure 365 and Figure 366) and uninstall the IRM 4.8 application. Hibernation system disabled. Port 80 and the output TCP must be enabled in the firewall so that IRMService can access the web Service.
