8 How to Get Started Log in to the Thomson Reuters portal using the secure URL: Customised Page Example > Click on top left orange icon for applications and options. > Under File select new flex document to customize your individualized display environment. > A pre-build display environment created for Platts content is also made available as an option a user could select on the right hand side of the screen labelled Platts. 9 Platts Speed Guide Platts Speed Guide can be used to find all the energy and commodity markets that Platts covers. Platts speed guide can be accessible in any quote screen object by inputting PLATTS in the top left input area. Press F4 for a pop-up floater screen for easy immediate access. Double click within any < > or [ ] to further narrow down your search. News Commentary Viewing Platts News By navigating the Platts speedguides a user will be able to find the News code associated Platts News, automated press releases and trader notes. These codes could be placed in a news object within the Eikon environment in a customized environment to track the latest Platts news, press releases and trader notes. 10 Platts Market On Close (MOC) Platts MOC assessment process is used to determine reliable price assessments in the global commodity markets. This process is a robust and structured system of information gathering to ensure that data used in the assessment process is of the highest quality. Platts observes market activity throughout the trading day, but pays particular attention to activity in a defined period of time towards the close that has become known as the Platts window, where market participants bids, offers and transactions are reported in real time and with full transparency. The functionality for using both real-time data and end-of-day data are depicted here. Platts Real-Time Data Add On All Platts price assessment historical alert packages could be located via the 0#PLATTSC menu in any quote screen in Eikon (press F4 for a floater quote screen or embed a quote screen directly in the Eikon display environment). At the first level it is divided by commodity type with further breakdowns that utilizes the 2 letter market category codes. 11 Platts Market Data Platts Market Data is sold at the market data category level, represented by 2 or 3 letter codes. Thomson Reuters has therefore created the Platts market data menu based on the market data category. By typing in D-PLATTSMKTDATA in the top left input area of any quote screen in Eikon, a list of all Market Data categories currently available on Eikon will be listed. As long as the user is subscribed to a specific market data category, all the price assessments in that category will appear when double left clicking on the <>. The Platts Market Data service is also available at RIC 0#PLATTSD and can be easily exported into Microsoft Excel and other charting applications. A user can access specific price assessments by typing in D- followed by the Platts symbol e.g. D-PCAAT00 which is the Dubai Front Month housed in market data category RI. Users can also drill down into specific assessments using the menu option outlined above and a real-time data Platts subscriber can access the same data without the prefix D e.g. PCAATOO. These options provide flexibility depending on the Platts package the user subscribes to. Viewing Platts data Creating a quote list The Quotelist is recommended for the tracking of multiple Platts and other financial instruments in a list view. Simply select Add Quote List and a Quotelist object will be embedded in the Eikon display environment. The Quotelist object allows the user to select the specific fields that they might be interested in. There is already a Platts template pre-built into Eikon that is recommended for Platts content. 12 Viewing quotes and graphs In both quotelist and quote object a user can conveniently bring up a chart to see the historical of a price assessment by right clicking for a drop down menu, select Related and pick Chart from the numerous options available. Alternatively, if clients already have the assessment of their choice in the quote screen; they would simply press F10 for a related chart object. Within Eikon charts, over 100 different types of technical analysis are available for the clients to use in conjunction with the Platts assessments. Furthermore, users will be able to overlay multiple financial instruments on the same chart for the analysis purposes. Many spot on adjustments is available in the chart, for example to change a line chart to Bar Open High low chart is accomplished by clicking directly on the text line directly on the legend of the chart and a drop down will appear providing different display options. 13 Data available in Excel Eikon Excel is a tool clients could use to dynamical link live updating Platts Price assessments and Platt Market Data in the Excel environment. There are numerous functions available to retrieve historical data and live data that updates automatically whenever the spreadsheet is open.
