3 EPSI (European Platform Sport Innovation), in december 2010, became an ASBL (Association Sans But Lucratif, non profit association) under Belgium Law. Located in Brussels, is a membership based-networking organisation within Europe, that focuses on innovation in the area of physical activity related to sport, leisure and health. EPSI provides access to a EU wide network for sports innovation. MISSION stimulate networking between high tech companies, SME s, universities, research organisations, knowledge organisations and to the sports end users provide access to an increasing network of sport field labs for creation, development and evaluation of sport products and services contribute to the dissemination of new knowledge and innovation opportunities for its members

4 Sport &Society Sports provides key dynamics when it comes to the development of communal principles by enhancing the physical and mental well-being of individuals and the integration of social classes. Sport coincides with community values as it attempts to define the morals and ethics attributed not only to athletes, but the totality of society as a whole The world of sports allows us the opportunity to gain vital insight into the sensitive issues of racism, sexism, classism, fairness, freedom, honesty, respect and responsibility Participating in sport allows personality to be conveyed in a constructive, fulfilling and exciting way Sport also helps develop determination, persistence, patience, competitivity and respect Sports has an invaluable therapeutic value in renewing the paraplegic's lost powers and helping coordination

19 Sport & Techology - snowboarding Modern snowboarding began in 1965 when Sherman Poppen invented a toy for his daughter by fastening two skis togheter and attaching a rope: the snurfer. Poppen licensed the idea to a manufacturer that sold about a million snurfer over the next decade. In the 1960s, Tom Sims crafted a snowboard in his school by gluing carpet to the top of a piece of wood and attaching aluminum sheeting to the bottom. In 1977 Jake Burton Carpenter founded the Burton Snowboards. The snowboards were madeofwoodenplanksthatwereflexibleandhadwaterskifoottraps.

27 Horizon2020 Horizon 2020 is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union, Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe's global competitiveness. Running from 2014 to 2020 with an 80 billion budget, the EU s new programme for research and innovation is part of the drive to create new growth and jobs in Europe. The proposed support for research and innovation under Horizon 2020 will: - Strengthen the EU s position in science with a dedicated budget of 24,598 million. - Strengthen industrial leadership in innovation 17,938 million. Greater access to capital and support for SMEs. - Provide 31,748 million to help address major concerns. Climate change, developing sustainable transport and mobility, making renewable energy more affordable, ensuring food safety and security, or coping with the challenge of an ageing population

28 Epsi&University and Enterprises The EPSI attaches great mission to get closer relation and cooperation with universities and new members. The strengths part of EPSI, the European sporting goods manufacturers association (FESI), focus on consumer / market demand in Europe and worldwide. EPSI hopes to orient the university research to the direction of consumer / market demand. Epsi& EU Commission Epsi involves in steering and advising on call for proposal of DG RTD (Research and Innovation), DG SANCO (Health and Consumer Protection), DG Entr (Enterprise and Industry).
