5 Worth Pilot Project (CIP): background SMEs often lack of funding, internal capacity, ideas Designers and creative people have fresh ideas, are close to market and customers, are more flexible and more likely to experiment, Manufacturing and design are two different fields, little knowledge of the know-how involved, skills and organisation Companies realise the potential of collaborative innovation but need incentives and guidance to engage in them.

10 Worth PP follow-up: Evaluation of the project (has been launched) COSME Work Programme 2016: planned continuation of Worth Pilot Project, Worth to become a collaborative innovation platform, promoting good practice, linking companies and cluster organisations.

11 COSME 2015: Design-based consumer goods Many promising technologies and solutions exist but often do not reach the market due to commercialisation obstacles and risk linked to scaling up. Objectives: encouraging market uptake of innovative solutions by design-led industries, Bridging the gap between research/ innovation and the market 11

12 COSME 2015: Design-based consumer goods Budget of the call: 11.2 million Typical project size 1.5 million, EU contribution 50% Targeting SMEs in the design-based industries (one SME can apply or in consortium) Does not support R&D: solution must be beyond the prototype stage Call for proposals closed (end of July), evaluation is ongoing. Possible new call in

13 COSME 2015: Study on the competitiveness of cultural and creative industries Collect the most recent data, assess the key challenges and opportunities (including for the future), Analyse successful strategies at national and regional level, identify those that could be scaledup, assess the added value of a EU policy intervention Propose recommendations at EU, national and regional level + test with stakeholders Final report: May/June
