3 MXF Import QT 2.1 Installation and Activation You will receive a DMG disk image from us after you purchased MXF Import QT. Copy the disk image to the Desktop and double click it to mount the installation volume. Your internal hard disk The MXF4mac disk image The mounted MXF4mac disk image 3

4 You find four files on the mounted disk image. - MXF4mac MXF Import QT: The installer application that installs all required files to use the MXF import component for QuickTime. - MXF4mac Website: A bookmark that links to our website. - License Agreement: The software license agreement. - Release Notes: Always check the release notes document as it contains useful information about features and issues. 4

5 Please login with your administrator account and password to install the software. Start the installation by double clicking the installer file. A Mac OS X system message appears if you install the software for the first time. Click Continue to proceed or Cancel to abort the installation. 5

6 The following screen will show the Introduction text. Click Continue to proceed. 6

7 The Read Me screen contains some basic information about the system requirements. Click Continue to proceed. Please review the codec requirements in detail. MXF Import QT requires the IMX codec from Apple (Pro Applications Update ). Final Cut Studio 3 includes v1.4 of the IMX codec (Intel only, no PPC support) which also supports VBI data in D-10/IMX files. We support both the and the 1.4 IMX codec. The new Apple AVC-Intra codec is part of Final Cut Studio 3 and will only work on Intel. We also recommend Final Cut Studio 3 for improved XDCAM HD codec support. Avid MXF files with DV, IMX and 1:1 8-bit compression types are being interpreted with Final Cut Pro s standard QuickTime codecs to provide full Final Cut Studio compatibility including timeline editing with realtime effects and video playout. For DNxHD and Avid Meridien compression types you need to install the Avid QuickTime Codecs LE components. 7

8 The License screen shows the same license contract information like the text document from the disk image. A floating message window appears after you have clicked the Continue button. You can click Read License for returning to the License screen to read the license text again. If you click on the Disagree button then the installer quits (Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6) or returns to the license text (Mac OS X 10.4). You can only proceed directly by clicking the Agree button. 8

9 We skip Destination Select and jump directly to the Installation Type screen as you can only install the software on the active Mac OS X volume. If you want to proceed directly with the standard installation then just click the Install button. Or click the Customize button to change the type of installation. 9

10 After you clicked the Customize button you can check and uncheck certain parts of the installation. 10

11 - MXF4mac MXF Import QT: The core component can t be unchecked and must be installed. It will be placed in the /Library/QuickTime/ folder. - MXF Info Light: Our free MXF Info Light analyzer application. It will be installed in the Applications folder. - MXF4QT: This little helper application can t be unchecked and must be installed. The little tool creates icons and previews in the Mac OS X Finder and also opens MXF media with the Apple QuickTime Player. It is placed in the /Application/Utilities/MXF4mac/ folder. - MXF4mac Preferences: The MXF4mac Preference Pane can t be unchecked and must be installed. Please use the Preference Pane later to activate the software via challenge and response. It will be installed in the /Library/PreferencePanes/ folder. - MXF4mac MXF Import CS: A plug-in for Adobe Creative Suite 4 Production Premium to enable applications like After Effects and Premiere Pro to directly interface with the MXF Import QT component in Mac OS X. It will be installed in the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS4/MediaCore/ folder. Click Install to confirm your selection or click Standard Install to return to the previous window. Please note that our contextual menu items MXF4mac CM and P2 Flow CM are not included anymore due to the abandoned support for contextual menu items in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard users can still request the tools from us free of charge. Update FCP Media is not included anymore. We are working on an extended upgrade. The latest version can be requested from us free of charge. 11

12 You need to enter your administrator name and password to proceed. Please note again that you must already be logged in as administrator before starting the installation. If you re not logged in as administrator then please hit the Cancel button, quit the installer, log out and log in again with your administrator account. Contact your system administrator or review the Mac OS X documentation if you don t know how to log in as administrator. 12

13 A reboot is required. Please click the Continue Installation button. 13

14 After the software was successfully installed please click the Restart button to reboot the system. 14

15 After the system restart please go to the Mac OS X System Preferences and launch the MXF4mac preference pane. Select the MXF Import QT product and hit the License button. 15

16 You will see the challenge code that represents your unique and machine specific key for this software. If your client is configured on the same machine then please just click the Send button. Your application will open up and creates an with all required license information. If your machine is not connected to the internet or no application is set up then please mark and copy the challenge code to the clipboard and paste it to a text document to send it from another machine. You have to do this for each system that needs to get licensed. We will then create a response code for each system and send it back to you via . Please paste the response code you receive from us into the Response Code text field and click the Activate button to fully unlock the software. 16

17 Please note: One license is valid for one machine. We can add expiring dates to response codes. Please tell us if you need to swap hardware in the foreseeable future. Entering a serial number is not required. Every customer needs to provide valid contact information for the license and support database. A response code will only work on one single machine and for one single product. The challenge code includes a creation date so it will change every day but a valid response code will always work on the same machine. Expired response codes can be renewed by entering a new response code. The Activate button will change to Overwrite. If you upgrade from MXF Import QT v1.x to v2.0 or later then a new challenge and response is required. Please use the Overwrite button to overwrite an existing 1.x license. You can find the license file in the /Library/Application Support/MXF4mac/ folder. The file is called MXF4mac MXF Import QT.license and you can send it to us if you encounter any issues. 18 Software Components Enclosed you find a brief description about the components that are included when installing the software (please see page 10 to 12). MXF4mac MXF Import QT.component is the main product and it enables QuickTime compatibility to a large range of MXF variations. It is installed in /Library/QuickTime/ on your system volume. Please note that the component is copy protected, you can t use it on another system without a challenge and response activation. 18

19 MXF Info Light is our free basic MXF analyzer. The small application is installed in the Applications folder on your system volume. You can download the separate PDF manual from our web site: 19

20 MXF4QT is a little application that opens MXF files with the QuickTime Player and also provides icon and preview support in the Finder for both Mac OS X 10.4 and It is installed in /Applications/Utilities/MXF4mac/ on your system volume. If you notice missing icons or of the preview is not available for supported MXF files then please select the MXF file and open the Finder s Get Info window either by hitting the command + i shortcut or by right-clicking on the file to select Get Info from the context menu. Select MXF4QT in the Open with: popup menu. Additionally you can then click the Change All button to let MXF4QT handle all MXF files. You can check this by using the context menu in Mac OS X. MXF4QT should appear as default and on top in the Open With menu. If other applications overwrite this behavior to handle MXF files and you want to change this back to MXF4QT then please use the Get Info window again. 20

21 MXF4mac MXF Import CS is a plug-in for the Adobe Creative Suite 4 Production Premium. It enables applications like After Effects and Premiere Pro to directly interface with the MXF Import QT component in Mac OS X to open all supported MXF variations such as Avid files. It is installed in /Library/ Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS4/MediaCore on your system volume. 21
