6 Established in 2001, Technology Learning Center provides continuing education to individuals that wish to develop a new skill set or enhance an existing one. Both our business and trade school offers flexible class schedules that are designed to work around our students busy schedules. Over the past decade we have continued to grow, due to the success of our highly motivated students and by working with instructors that bring their unique teaching styles and valuable expertise to the classroom. The remainder of the 8,000 sq feet is used for office space, utility rooms, storage, and rest rooms. The facility meets all State and local codes and is handicapped accessible. 6

9 Financial Aid, Student Loans Payment Methods At Technology Learning Center we try to make paying for your education as trouble free as possible. Depending on your needs, payment options may vary. Unemployed Students: Unemployed students may be eligible for education funds through work force development. Employed Students: For students who are already employed, their employers may pay for them to advance their license or take continuing education through their employer s education reimbursement program. Pay-as-you-go: Another well-liked payment option offered is the easy pay as you go plan. Student Loans: Student loans are also available to qualified candidates through Technology Learning Center. 10 School Policies Attendance Policy Students must maintain 90% attendance during each term and must earn 70% grade average for graduations. Leave of absence is allowed providing that a student has a legitimate reason. Students on a leave of absence will be credited for money paid and subject completed when they return. Students who cannot maintain 90% attendance during a specific program or course will be subjected to dismissal. Students who maintain 90% attendance during a specific term but fail to maintain at least 70% final grade average will be allowed to repeat the term one time only at no charge within one year from the date of the initial enrollment. Acceptance of Outside Credits Policy Students may be granted credits for subjects taken at other institutions to shorten their program providing that the other institution is qualified by the appropriate boards and agencies. Job Placement Policy Technology Learning Center will assist its graduates on finding employment and will maintain an active data base related to potential employers. However, Technology Learning Center does not guarantee a job upon completion of the course or program. Make-Up Work Make-up work is applicable for students that miss classes due to an excusable reason such as sickness or family emergencies. Make up classes cannot exceed 10% of the program load. Student Conduct Respect for law and for those persons in authority shall be expected of all students. This includes conformity to school rules as well as general provisions of law affecting students. Respect for the rights of others, consideration of their privileges, and cooperative behaviors shall also be expected of all students. Respect for property of all is expected at all times. Standards of courtesy, decency, and honesty shall be maintained by all students. 10
11 Refund Policy/Enrollment Agreement Students will be required to sign an Enrollment Agreement as required by the Massachusetts General Law Chapter 255, Section 13K. The Enrollment Agreement will include a refund policy and meet the Refund Policy / Enrollment Agreement The Standards of Accreditation. 11
12 Probation and Termination Policy A student may be placed on probation or terminated for, but not limited to the following reasons: Not maintaining satisfactory progress or experiencing excessive absenteeism. A student may also be suspended/dismissed or terminated from the school because of inappropriate conduct, possession of drugs, alcohol or weapon on school premises. A student may also be terminated for not meeting the tuition payment commitments. A student may appeal a determination of suspension/ dismissal/termination by submitting a written appeal to the School Director. The School Director will review the appeal and make a determination of the reentry. The decision of the School Director shall be final. Complaint Resolution Policy Step1: An informal complaint from a student will be brought up to the instructor. The instructor will resolve the issue within three days. Step2: If the issue is not resolved within the three day period or if the student is not satisfied with the resolution, the student can make a formal complaint to the school director. Step3: The school director will arrange for a meeting within one week from receiving the formal complaint. The student will be asked to give the school two days to address the complaint. 13 Satisfactory Progress Program Policy Technology Learning Center will implement a satisfactory progress program to enhance the center's learning techniques in which the students will be informed on his or her progress on weekly basis. As part of this program the instructor will identify areas of studies that require extra attention from the student. In some cases the instructor might offer extra help for those who need it outside regular class room hours at no extra charge to the student. Normally, extra help sessions are offered for half an hour prior to the start time of each class. Every student, regardless of grade, will receive a written academic progress report at least once during the span of the class. A copy of the satisfactory progress report will be maintained by the school in the student s file. 13
14 Grading Policy Grading is based on averaging four exams in each subject that will count for 90% of the final grade and 10% credits for a project related to the subject of study. The project could be a paper project or a lab project. A grade report sample is attached. 70% final grade average and 90% attendance is required for passing a course. Grading/Assessment System The internal grading/assessment system is a tool for teachers to grade/assess and to recognize the progress and the level of students educational achievements and to inform students about the level and progress of their educational achievements. The assessment is divided into: Progress assessing/grading and end of semester grading or final grades. The percentage grading system is adopted as follows: Excellent 100% to 95% Very Good 94% to 90% Good 89% to 80% Satisfactory 79% to 70% Failed 69% and less Grading Policies Required Levels of Performance for Graduation: 70% Grade, and 90% attendance Program Completion Upon completion of a program in academic standing, students will receive a certificate. 15 Course Support and Career Services Students who wish to receive career advising may meet with the school s Career Service Specialist as many times as needed. This service consists of preparing resumes and providing students with job openings and in some cases when applicable, setting up job interviews. This service is provided to all students enrolled at the school. Students who need academic support may request a meeting with their instructor outside the scheduled teaching hours or with the school director. The student will receive extra help in their areas of studies and clarifications of subjects that might be unclear. This service is provided to all students enrolled at the school. School Licenses Technology Learning Center is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Education. The HVACR and Steam Engineering licensing programs are approved by the Department of Public Safety. The Wastewater Treatment Courses are approved by the Department of Environmental Protection. 16 Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Programs HVACR01 Residential Oil Heat Technology & Services Objective: Students will learn the basics of residential heating and oil burner technology, installation, service, repair and maintenance. Upon completion of this course students will be prepared for the State Oil Burner Technician License exam. Course emphasis on both hands-on practice and theory. Each higher position requires new testing and certification. Through continued testing, certification and experience you can become a 1 st Class Engineer. 24

Additionally, students will receive a 30-hour Continuing Education Certification for license renewal.
