Tags were then attached to seedlings and distributed to the community on National Arbor Day.

7 Florida Gulf Coast University: FGSU students held a tree-planting event as a part of the International Day of Climate Action on October 24. Below are examples of how the event was publicized to the community.
8 Service Learning Examples From Various Colleges and Universities Southeastern Community College: Forestry Club and forestry students conducted or took part in three related service projects during the 2009 fall semester. 1. During the December 10 Student Project Showcase Day forestry students educated other students, faculty, staff, and visitors about the Tree Campus USA program and proper tree care with displays, printed handouts, and discussion. 2. On October 29 and 30 forestry students worked as volunteers for the North Carolina Museum of Forestry during the City of Whiteville Pecan Festival activities. The museum hosted a program in which pecan growers, wildlife experts, and educators set up educational displays and demonstrated the proper planting, care and benefits of pecans for human consumption, wildlife, and ecosystem services to the fourth grade classes in Columbus County. The forestry students served as tour guides for the fourth graders and their teachers. 3. Throughout the 2008 fall semester forestry students completed an inventory of two campus urban forest stands as part of the overall inventory. Arizona State University: Palo Verde Resident Life/Campus Harvest Event - Student dorm supervisors participated in the ASU Campus Harvest sour orange picking event in order to meet Tree Campus USA requirements for. Students picked over 2000 pounds of sour oranges and learned how to care for citrus trees and cook with sour oranges pounds of sour oranges were donated to the Primate Foundation. Kent State University: The Kent State University Tree Advisory Board is working in partnership with the student business organization Net Impact to identify and plan tree planting initiatives which will increase environmental sustainability and student involvement. The first initiative launched by this partnership is a program to increase canopy cover over campus parking lots. Students from Net Impact helped collect data that is being used to quantify the benefits trees may provide both aesthetically and environmentally to these sparsely landscaped areas. The Tree Advisory Board will use this data in spring 2010 to identify planting areas and funding sources to implement a planting program. University of Arkansas Fort Smith: A group of students, Chancellors Learning Council, and the Urban Forester for the University came together to develop "Growing Green, a program that is their way of leaving a lasting impact on the campus. They created brochures and t-shirts to depict their project and gave away plants and snacks to gain student attention. Their message was to show the importance of trees in the urban environment. This event included a planting of a 'green pillar' oak on campus in order to help meet the requirements of the Tree Campus USA recognition program.
