4 TDF Urban Riparian Buffer Program A Clean Water from Urban Forests Initiative The TDF Clean Water from Urban Forest initiative was created in response to and is in support of: 2010 TDF Forest Action Plan 2010 Spring Floods of in Nashville 2010 Nashville Tree Canopy Assessment 2011 Nashville Open Space Plan

5 2010 TDF Forest Action Plan Identified 175 Watersheds Statewide Where 2/3 or More of their Streams Lacked Adequate Riparian Forest Buffers Riparian Forest Buffer Establishment Priority Areas Urban Forestry Priority Areas

6 8 Priority Watersheds in Middle Tennessee Were Selected From Those 175 Watersheds Identified Statewide for the Urban Riparian Buffer Program

28 Potential Buffer Funding Sources TAEP Grant Program, Brian Rucker, TDF Provide 50/50 matching grants for various community projects including: providing energy savings through shading, storm water mitigation, rain interception, and air quality improvement through filtration and absorption. Applications are made available each spring.

29 Potential Buffer Funding Sources D Addario Grant Program, John Woodcock, TDF

30 Potential Buffer Funding Sources TDA-319 Grant Program, Sam Marshall, TDA Funded with grants provided by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) under section 319(h) of the Clean Water Act. Provides 60%, or greater, matching grants to local governments, interstate agencies, nonprofit organizations and institutions, colleges and universities, and agencies of state government. The deadline for submittal is December 1, 2015.

31 Potential Buffer Funding Sources Nashville Urban Runoff 5K and Water Quality Festival Grants-Jennifer Watson, TNSA Two $750 Grants from a portion of the event proceeds will be awarded to two projects that involves the implementation/installation Best Management Practices (BMPs) that will improve runoff within Davidson County. Grants are awarded on the day of the event.

32 Potential Buffer Funding Sources TWRA Riparian Tree Planting Grants Assists cities, schools, community organizations, civic groups, watershed organizations, and conservation groups, etc., with riparian tree planting projects. Five grants, at $500 each, are available for each of TWRA s four regional Aquatic Habitat Protection projects (a total of $2,500 per region).
