6 Maritime Coastal Strip: Great growth potential El Salvador s Marine Coastal Strip Pacific Ocean Marine Costal Strip potential: The country s main logistics and strategic infrastructures are located at the MCS: the International Airport and the ports of Acajutla and La Union. Location of the country s main natural assets, valuable for their landscaping features, high biodiversity and the role they play in the reproduction of the fishing resources, this assets are: Barra de Santiago, Cóbanos, Jaltepeque Estuary, Jiquilisco Bay and La Union Bay. MCS has 51% of the country s best farmland, including types I, II and III. Investments in the MCS will incorporate the territorial sea to the country s productive and cultural life. The territorial sea is equivalent to approximately four times the size of national territory. Great potential to exploit the productive and sustainable capacity of the marine and coastal resources. Moreover, in this territory there are currently 940 projects either in execution or scheduled to start between 2013 and 2014, promoted by Government institutions. 6
