3 Purpose of Meeting To provide an overview of current NEMD-URP efforts To solicit feedback on current efforts/guidance on way forward To ensure relevance to Harford County, Northeastern t Maryland & Aberdeen Proving Ground s (APG) Education/R&D requirements For the NEMD-URP to be a key regional/national education and technology resource, it must meet the requirements of industry, government, and academia in the APG / Harford County / Northeastern Maryland community.
4 Why Develop a University Research Park (URP) Leverage business growth/brac activities in NEMD Support/leverage MD s R&D for benefit APG/NEMD community Ensure/support correct mix of higher education degrees Undergraduate, graduate (Masters, Doctorate, Post Doc) in STEM, Cyber, C4ISR, Chemical/Bio, T&E, other domains Foster industry/university/government interaction and collaboration via proximity Interaction facilitates internships, high technology employment opportunities, collaborative R&D, equipment sharing, technology transfer, etc. Environmental factors support creation of URP in NEMD area.
5 NEMD-URP Overview Mission Provide a multidisciplinary environment that strengthens national defense priorities through: Advanced degree opportunities Research and high technology transfer collaboration Critical-skill, top tier, knowledge worker education Business/technology incubation (mentoring business) Vision i A nationally recognized advanced d multidisciplinary i li academic, science and research campus creating technology-led economic growth for the northeastern region of Maryland.
6 NEMD-URP Purpose Create a campus-like environment for developments created by universities or by local government with strong university input. Initial objectives: University income-generating ventures Become a regional development focus area Be a mechanism for the commercialization of university technology through spin-offs in the NEMD region.
