Hovnanian Children s Hospital is one of a select group of state-designated Level III neonatal intensive care units in New Jersey, equipped with the most advanced technologies and leading neonatologists. Recovery The impact of a difficult diagnosis or extensive treatment on a child and the child s family can be overwhelming. For that reason, the offers rehabilitation, support groups, and physical and speech therapy to help continue the healing both mentally and physically. Our pediatric rehabilitation specialists work with families to address the specific needs of the children they see. Our specialized team consists of audiologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists who evaluate, treat, and assist children of all ages with a variety of neurological, orthopedic, and developmental needs. Whether born with an illness, just diagnosed with one, or suffered a traumatic injury, your child may experieince trouble performing day-to-day activities. Occupational therapy can help children improve their cognitive, physical, and motor skills. And, just as important, it can help build their self esteem and provide a sense of accomplishment for those performing a task for the first time or relearning one that they have done a million times before. On the road to recovery, therapy often extends beyond physical healing and into emotional healing. Our unique art and pet therapy programs enable children to use creativity and positive thinking to express their feelings as they deal with tragic events and recovery. In fact, the pet therapy dogs can often be seen stopping in on the pediatric unit for a visit, bringing smiles to kids faces as they hug, pet, and play with these cuddly friends. MeridianPediatricNetwork.com PAgE 7
6 Support groups are available for our pediatric patients and their families who are coping with the stress of a particular illness or injury. We are home to a diabetes program that has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for excellence in self-management education. Home Sometimes, especially where children are involved, the best healing happens at home with their parents, family, friends, toys, and their own bed. For this reason, many of our rehabilitative and therapeutic programs extend from the hospital to the home, with suggested participation from families and friends. Whether you are looking for assistance caring for an ill or injured child after returning from the hospital, adding safety monitoring tools, or need medication management help for your child s chronic illness, Meridian At Home s Pediatric Care Program offers the most complete range of in-home personal assistance and technology solutions. And, when you re in need of medical supplies including pediatric nutritional supplements, blood sugar tests and strips for diabetes, thermometers, and nebulizers visit MeridianAtHomeStore.com for a full range of medical equipment and products delivered right to your door. Good Pediatric Care Starts with You Our mission is to improve the health of the community, and we want to partner with you, schools, and the many civic organizations with similar goals. Unfortunately, you can t predict when your child is going to need to see a doctor. In those emergency cases, calling 911 and getting to the right hospital are crucial to the most positive results. It s a good idea to check in with your doctor with regular checkups and catch conditions early if they occur. Being connected to a physician who is connected to the is a good way to ensure access to subspecialists who are expertly skilled in and focused on the treatment of children. It also links you to a host of specialty and supportive programs available to you right here in Monmouth and Ocean counties. When it comes to your child s health, this is where you want to be K.
