16 Report by TU Delft (2013) Report Galveston Bay: Bolivar Roads Flood Risk Reduction Barrier (July 2013) Objective: provide suitable solutions for surge barrier in Bolivar Roads as part of the Ike Dike system and provide recommendations for further research Recommendation: investigate other options to increase the flood protection level, such as compartmenting Galveston Bay to reduce wind set up and other alignments of a flood protection system. Eventually, it is important to compare various alternatives (incl. donothing, Ike Dike and other alternatives).
17 Phase III: Scope of Work Storm Surge Protection for the Houston-Galveston Area ( ) THREE priority initiatives: 1. Analysis of Concepts/Strategies for Surge Damage Reduction - Identify existing damages/risk associated with hurricane storm surge - Generate and analyze storm surge damage reduction strategies, including structural and non-structural options (e.g. Centennial Gate, Ike Dike and LSCE) - Recommend surge damage reduction strategy for Galveston Bay area (H-GAPS) 2. Lone Star Coastal National Recreation Area and Ecosystems Services Exchange - Support pursuit of congressional legislation for creating LSCNRA - Evaluation and quantification of ecosystem services in the Galveston Bay region 3. Federal Flood Insurance Policy Study - Evaluation of Biggert-Waters Act (2012), other federal flood policies, and current development policies/criteria, under existing and future floodplain mapping and land use conditions
