1 Public Health -a Nursing Perspective International Study Programme Viborg School of Nursing in Denmark offers a nursing/health promotion study programme for all international students wishing to study in Denmark and gain some international experience

2 An opportunity -to gain some international experience Students from other parts of the world are most welcome to apply Viborg School of Nursing strives to maintain an international environment, where international students will feel welcome and experience professional and personal development, which will benefit them in their future professional lives The international programme is aimed at nursing students at bachelor level and offers three units: Care of the Hospitalised Patient Nursing Practice in the Community Transitions in Ageing Viborg School of Nursing welcomes you to an English study programme as part of your undergraduate nursing education For additional information on the courses and Viborg, please see the following pages This opportunity is presently open to nursing students from Danish nursing schools, Deakin University students and students from our partners in Scandinavia and the rest of Europe

3 Viborg -a safe and modern town with a history Viborg is situated in the Kingdom of Denmark in the northern part of Europe Viborg has a history as a royal city and is therefore famous for its many historical and cultural sights The town is characterised by its old town houses and streets, the cathedral and for its many historical sculptures Today Viborg is a busy, modern town, which is beautifully situated beside two lakes In addition the surrounding area has a unique landscape, and the sea and fiords are not far away The landscape invites you to experience it either by foot or bicycle The bicycle is a very common mode of transport in Denmark In both Viborg and in the countryside there are often bicycle lanes next to the roads Students can either choose to bring their own bikes or perhaps borrow one from (Danish) fellow students It is also possible to borrow or rent bicycles at the local tourist information centre The town offers many leisure opportunities Amongst other things, a theatre, a new THX cinema and a concert hall The town also has a variety of sports facilities, fitness centres and a modern swimming bath The pride of Viborg is its ladies handball team, which is regarded as amongst the best teams in the world considered a very safe country to travel in and crime rates are very low, in particular in provincial areas such as Viborg Danish traditions in relation to cuisine vary greatly between the countryside and the major towns and cities This is quite clear when a comparison is made between what is considered as traditional Danish cuisine with dishes based on minced meat, gravy and potatoes to more modern Danish cuisine with its emphasis on simplicity and fresh and locally produced high quality ingredients The famous Danish term hygge often refers to being together with friends and family eating and drinking There are three main meals in Denmark: breakfast and dinner are typically eaten at home, whereas lunch for practical reasons has to be eaten elsewhere and often consists of a packed lunch brought from home The home is very important to the Danes; they invest a lot in good and spacious accommodation In Viborg one can travel safely, both at night and during the day Denmark is, in general, Denmark Viborg Aalborg Aarhus Copenhagen Odense

4 COURSES VS 503 Care of the Hospitalised Patient Semester: Semester 2 Start and duration: Last week of August until the middle of December Credit: 15 ECTS points or 2 AU points In the context of the acute medical and surgical nursing practice, the unit aims to provide the students with opportunities to develop a systematic body of knowledge that informs their problem-solving capabilities, skill development, and ability to work in a team Further, the aim of the unit is to provide the students potential for an understanding of the professional, organisational, and social contexts of nursing and the need for ongoing professional development The clinical practice is of three weeks duration and intends to provide the student opportunity to consolidate and apply theory and skills learnt in this unit

5 VS 504 Nursing Practice in the Community VS 505 Transitions in Ageing Semester: Semester 2 Start and duration: Last week of August until the middle of December Credit: 75 ECTS points or 1 AU points This unit provides opportunities for students to explore the context and processes of nursing in the community, taking a population-based focus which looks at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of care It examines models for community health to meet the increasing demands for community based nursing and the health needs of the population in the 21 st century The clinical practice is of one week s duration and intends to provide the student opportunity to integrate and apply newly acquired and previously etc Semester: Semester 2 Start and duration: Last week of August until the middle of December Credit: 75 ECTS points or 1 AU points The aim of the unit is to provide students with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills relevant to the promotion of wellness, maintenance and rehabilitation of health and independence in aged care The clinical practice is of two weeks duration at aged care placements and intends to provide the student opportunity to experience the integration of theoretical concepts in different practice settings in Denmark
