Introduction This SOP explains about the detailed steps for replacing CPU fan on Synology s DiskStation DS411+II product. 1.1 Applied Models & Required Components Fan module of the DiskStation model for replacing: Required Module CPU Fan 40*40*10_1 Item Code Description Applied Model 3PIN DC12V JST W/ 100mm RPM EC4010M12ER DS411+II PB_FREE CPU Fan 40*40*10_1 1.2 Required Tools Screw Driver + Type: Suggested Bit Size PH#2 Note: If an automatic screwdriver is used, set its torque reading to be 4.5 (+/-0.2) kg/cmf in advance. Screw Driver - Type: Suggested a smaller bit size Anti-static / Cotton Gloves Page 3 of 24

4 2. Start to Replace 2.1 Dismantle the defective fan module Release the four (4) hand screws on the rear panel (Marked by the red circles). (Fig. 1) Fan #1 Fan #2 Fig Flip down the rear panel to open it. (Fig. 2) Fig. 2 Page 4 of 24

5 2.1.3 Remove all the disk trays from the HDD chassis. (Fig. 3) Disk Tray Fig Draw backwards then move up the enclosure cover to remove it. (Fig. 4) Enclosure Cover - Top Fig. 4 Page 5 of 24

7 2.1.6 Release the two (2) screws on each side of the enclosure interior (Marked by the red circles) which fix the bottom cover. 9 Release the two (2) screws on each side of the front panel interior (Marked by the red circles). Then push the front panel outwards to remove it from the enclosure. 10 Use a small flat tool (e.g. A screwdriver of - type) to slightly bend outwards the tenon on each side of the front panel interior for releasing. (Marked by the red rectangle in Fig. 16, showing the left side). Then push the front panel outwards to release it from the enclosure. Do in the same way for the right side. 15 2.2 Install the replacement fan module Put the replacement CPU fan and its cable connector to the same locations as the defective one on the motherboard. (Fig. 26) Replacement CPU Fan CPU Heat-sink Fig Fix the four (4) screws (Marked by the red circles) to secure the replacement CPU fan. 16 2.2.3 To restore the motherboard into the enclosure, there are two (2) locations as follow for joining the two sides: Side (Fig. 28) Enclosure Side (Fig. 29) #1 PCI Express connector #2 Bonding finger of the HDD backplane RAM Module #1 Replacement CPU Fan Fig. 28 Side Join the motherboard and the enclosure together with the bonding finger of the HDD backplane (#2) inserted into the PCI Express connector (#1) properly. 17 2.2.4 Fix the four (4) screws (Marked by the red circles) to secure the motherboard. 18 2.2.6 To restore the front panel on the enclosure, the four (4) tenons and openings for joining the two sides are as follow. 19 Restore the front panel to its original location on the enclosure with the abovementioned tenons and openings joined properly.
