5 Profiles Jamie MacDonald is currently studying the BA (Hons) Applied Music at Lews Castle College UHI, Benbecula campus. He explains: A unique aspect of the course are the residential placements which are held in different locations throughout Scotland and so far I ve been to Shetland, Inverness, Glasgow, Benbecula and Fort William. Following a successful student placement, which provided a solid training period, we were able to move forward and employ Oliva Jack, BA (Hons) Music Business graduate, part time. From day one of the placement, Olivia was keen to work and had obviously been prepared well by the University of the Highlands and Islands for the real world of work environment of live music promotion and production. Regionally, the university is in an ideal position to provide skills training to people wanting a career in music, taking them from the dream to reality in order to prepare them for albeit an exciting and glamorous but hard working industry. We were able to create, in collaboration with the university, a placement programme that exposed Olivia to a variety of aspects of the business providing valuable real world experience to back up the readiness provided by the university in the classroom.
