5 INVEST IN YOU. oil/gas heat/gas FITTERS COURSES OIL Heat TECHNICIAN LICENSE PREP Duration: 15 Weeks Completion: 120 Hours Location: Woburn & Westwood 800 This course will provide the students with the information necessary to acquire The Massachusetts Oil Burner Technician Certificate. The curriculum includes combustion theory, oil burner construction, oil tank code (527 CMR 4.00), power venters, oil burner electrical circuits, hydronic controls and the Oil Burner Fire Protection Regulations (527 CMR 4.00) The shop component will allow students to receive hands on experience on live fire units. The curriculum will include basic tool use and safety, electrical safety, mechanical troubleshooting, annual tune ups, electrical testing and trouble shooting of oil burner controls and devices. Upon passing the Oil Heat Technicians Class, students are then eligible to become NORA certified GAS HEAT MASSACHUSETTS STATE GAS CODE BOOK REGULATIONS PRACTICAL HANDS-ON COURSE GAS FITTERS TIER 1 PREP Duration: 32 Weeks Completion: 110 Hours Location: Woburn This course is designed to begin to prepare apprentice gas fitters to fulfill the requirements for the Massachusetts State Journeyman Gas Fitters Examination. 10 FACILITIES TECHNICIAN COURSE/OSHA FACILITIES TECHNICIAN 200 Duration: 14 Weeks Completion: 84 Hours Location: Woburn & Westwood Dates and times for lab classes are subject to change. This facilities maintenance program has been designed by building managers and mechanics to provide a broad overview of modern building systems while giving the student an understanding of individual systems pertaining to building equipment. The course is an overall management approach including the importance of knowing modern building operations. Managers and mechanics must know how certain types of equipment interact with each other to successfully maintain, troubleshoot and plan the proper operation of a modern complex for their clients. HVAC Controls and Energy Management COURSE HVAC CONTROLS AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT 403 Complete HVAC Systems under Pneumatic & DDC Control Duration: 17 Weeks Completion: 102 Hours Location: Westwood This course is designed to provide students with the skills and understanding of HVAC building controls as well as motors & controls of all other systems. 12 Firemen & Engineers License COURSES POWER PLANT OPERATION FOR FIREMEN & ENGINEERS COURSE # 80 # 81 # 82 Course Outlines: Duration: 12 Weeks Completion: 72 Hours Location: Woburn & Westwood Course # 80 Boiler Tech/Second Class Firemen This is the entry-level license preparatory course. After successfully completing this course, students are prepared to take the written and oral state license exams. Once students pass the exam, the student is officially licensed to Operate any boiler or boilers under the engineer or fireman direct charge thereof. Duration: 15 Weeks Completion: 90 Hours Location: Westwood Course # 81 First Class Firemen After holding a Second Class Fireman s license for six months, students are eligible to take the First Class Firemen s course to prepare them for the state license exam. After students pass the exam, the student is then licensed to Have charge of and operate any boiler or boilers where the safety valve is set at a pressure not exceeding 25 psi or to operate any boiler under the engineer in direct charge thereof. Third Class Engineer After holding a First Class Firemen s License for one year, students are eligible to take the Third Class Engineer s course to prepare for the state license exam. After passing the exam, students are then licensed to Have charge of and operate a boiler or boilers not exceeding, in the aggregate, 150 horsepower when solid fuel is burned or not exceeding, in the aggregate, 500 horsepower when steam is generated by the use of liquid or gaseous fuel, electric or atomic energy or any other source of heat and an engine or engines not exceeding 50 horsepower each or to operate a second class plant under the engineer in direct charge thereof. Duration: 10 Weeks Completion: 20 Modules Location: Westwood Course # 82 Second Class Engineer A graduate of this course will understand the principles of combustion and economic firing. The calculations relating to safety valves and strength of stream boilers will be thoroughly understood, with their practical application. An understanding of the latest types of steam turbines and their auxiliaries, maintenance and operation must be thoroughly understood by the Second Class Engineer. First Class Engineer This course will provide such knowledge and prepare students technically for the examination for the first-grade license. A First Class Engineer can take charge of any steam plant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This course has been approved by the Department of Public Safety to satisfy the 30 hour Continuing Education requirement as mandated in Chapter 146 of the Massachusetts General Laws. PLUMBING / TIER 5 MASTER PREP Duration: 16 Weeks Completion: 110 Hours Location: Woburn 1200 This course is designed to fulfill the educational requirements for both students who have passed Tier IV as well as Licensed Journeyman Plumbers who are seeking to sit for exams for Licensure as Plumbers in The Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The course is a highly successful, 30-hour accredited course uniquely designed by our instructors, former plumbing and gas inspectors, with a combined total of over 40 years of experience in the industry.
