8 MISSION CRER Betim Incorporate renewable energy services in local development and be a center of information and dissemination of technologies and projects in renewable energy to inspire public policies and actions in other cities.

9 OBJECTIVES Keep relevant information to the subject and aid the dissemination of ideas on renewable energy, causing impacts to the local, regional and global, contributing to:

10 -Expand and improve access to low cost renewable energy for low-income population; -Reduce the Greenhouse Gas emissions and other local pollutants; -Use and promote cheaper and more sustainable sources of energy; -Create direct and indirect jobs; -Improve the overall population s quality of life

SOLAR WATER HEATERS IN LOW-INCOME HOUSES 1684 equipments acquired and installed by Cemig: -No costs to partners or beneficiaries for the solar heaters in: Itacolomi, José Gomes de Castro, Vargem das Flores, Dicalino Cabral and Celso Pedrosa between 2004 and 2007.

20 EXTERNAL ACTIONS IMPLEMENTED: 2. Energy Efficient street lighting in Betim: National program for street lighting- RELUZ program with the replacement of open light bulbs, using mercury vapor lamps and reactors for closed lights using sodium vapor lamps and reactors.

Energy Efficiency at Betim s City Hall m² -Rationalization and energy co-generation thermal energy from steel mill turned into electricity for the city hall (project) -Environmental comfort natural lighting and ventilation; -Solar Energy showers and snack bars; -Use of Rain Water gardens and cleaning; -Artificial lights - low-power lamps.

Help implementing the Energy Optimization Program, through the creation of CICE (Internal Comission on Energy Conservation) at ASMUBE (Public Servants Association of Betim) start in August 2008; 9. Lectures on Energy Saving, held on the Regional Hospital and Rosetti company November 2008; 10. Requirement for water solar heaters and rain water harvesting in all residential buildings with more then 30 units in 2008.
