Since 1896, our ministry of service has supported and empowered America's most vulnerable groups, including at-risk youth, the frail elderly, men and women returning from prison, homeless individuals and families, people with disabilities, and those recovering from addictions. Our work touches the mind, body, heart and ultimately the spirit of those we serve, integrating our deep compassion with highly effective programs and services. Volunteers of America Michigan is an affiliate of Volunteers of America and offers the programs listed here. Shelter Care Emergency. New Hope Day Center Lansing. (517) This weekday service center offers refuge where the work of recovery gets done. New Hope will serve more than 2,200 homeless individuals during an average year. Volunteers of America Michigan staff is joined by eight other agencies to provide services including health care, mental health services, and employment and housing resources Men, Women and Children Emergency Shelters Lansing. (517) Open 365 days a year, the shelters offer a warm and safe place to sleep. The men s shelter offers 50 beds and the women and children s shelter has 14 beds. Both shelters are filled to capacity nearly every night. Community Kitchen Lansing. (517) Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served Monday through Friday. Breakfast and dinner are available on weekends. We expect to serve 115,000 meals to the hungry and homeless this year. Hotel Emergency Lodging Program (HELP) Lansing. (517) Provides shelter in hotels or motels, food, and case management for families and individuals with disabilities when emergency shelters are full. Veterans Services. Veterans In Progress Programs (VIP) - Lansing (517) and Niles (269) Homeless veterans from the streets are welcomed to a program that provides all of the services of the New Hope Day Center plus the assistance of the veterans case management team and the physical and mental health services of the VA Medical Hospitals. Eighty percent of those that complete the program return to independent living. Veterans Housing Program (VHP) - Lansing (517) , Niles (269) and Detroit. (313) This 18 to 24 month program offers housing and complete clinical services including case management; individual and group counseling; substance abuse treatment; medical care; budgeting assistance; job interviewing and placement; anger management, and recreational opportunities in a therapeutic community setting for homeless veterans. Homeless Veterans Reintegration Programs (HVRP) Lansing, Detroit and Flint. (517) A comprehensive employment and training program services designed to address employment barriers with coordinated case management. A continuum of supportive services are provided giving homeless veterans the ability to participate in job skills training programs while meeting their basic needs. Housing Program Permanent. Buena Vista Senior Community Buena Vista Township. (989) A charming 55 apartment community for low-income seniors is located on a quiet, residential neighborhood near senior centers, libraries, transportation and diverse places of worship. Country View Apartments & Townhouses Benton Harbor. (269) Located in Berrien County, this community located in a park-like setting extends program services and 198 apartment homes for the disabled, low-income families and seniors. Close to lakes and many recreational activities. Coventry Place Apartments I & II Redford. (313) This quaint apartment community is comprised of 97 one-bedroom and studio apartments for low-income seniors and disabled individuals, and is situated in a quiet neighborhood. Social Services coordinator offers programs, advocacy and referral services. Delta River Senior Village Lansing. Coming Soon! Coming soon to beautiful Delta Township, this community has 38 one-bedroom apartment homes for low-income seniors. (269) Nestled on a wooded hill within 1 mile of downtown Battle Creek, this remodeled residence boasts 158 apartment homes comprising of one to four bedroom apartments and townhomes. 4 McDonald Senior Apartments Pontiac. (248) A beautiful building with 50 apartment homes for low-income seniors overlooking Harris Lake. Amenities include community and game rooms, laundry rooms, a library, hair salon, a walk-out deck and much more. Oak Village Square Apartments Detroit. (313) This apartment community for 75 low-income seniors, age 62 and older is a gem in a historic neighborhood. Residents enjoy many social activities as well as a wide variety of supportive services. Oak Village Independence House Detroit. (313) In the heart of Detroit, this newly-constructed apartment building offers independent living for physically disabled persons with 10 efficiency apartments and rent of 30% of adjusted income. Partridge Creek Senior Village Clinton Township. (586) This community provides 66 apartment homes for low-income seniors, age 62 and older and is moments away from Partridge Creek Mall. Amenities include community room, hair salon, library and a fitness center. Sumby Senior Housing River Rouge. (313) This inviting 55 unit community for low-income seniors age 62 and older, is situated in a residential neighborhood near senior centers, libraries, transportation and diverse places of worship. Community Outreach. Adopt A Family Southeast Michigan and Lansing (248) or (248) This annual program matches needy families with sponsors who adopt them for the Christmas holiday, providing new clothes, toys and a holiday meal. Over 21,000 people were served last year. Holiday Meal Program Lansing (517) Providing meals for the elderly and disabled in the Lansing area for over 35 years, many of the people served are homebound and spend the holiday season alone. Operation Backpack Southeast Michigan (248) Each year many children return to school unprepared, lacking the basic supplies they need to succeed. Operation Backpack ensures that low-income children return to school with all the supplies they need. Capital Area Stand Down for Homeless Veterans Lansing (517) This annual event provides an opportunity to assist and advocate for homeless veterans. Dozens of agencies provide a wide variety of services including health care, legal assistance, housing resources and veterans services. Action Teams - Southeast Michigan (248) The Major League Baseball Players and local high school students form the Action Teams to work together to inspire youth to get involved with Volunteers of America programs and experience that volunteering is cool, fun and rewarding! Volunteer Opportunities Southeast Michigan (248) and Lansing (517) Our volunteers are men, women and teens with diverse backgrounds and interests.
