1 River Oaks Community Church Local Missions Support Bethesda Center for the Homeless The 100-bed emergency night shelter serves a cross-section of homeless men and women who have shortterm emergencies and need a bed for just a few nights. The Bethesda Center s case management team provides opportunities for mental and physical health care, job training, education and permanent housing. The Bethesda Center also maintains the area s only day shelter. River Oaks conducts devotionals in the evenings at the center. We offer coffee, desert, prayer and a short message. 930 N. Patterson Ave. Winston Salem, NC Phone: (336) Crisis Control Ministry Crisis Control assists residents of Forsyth and Stokes Counties in North Carolina who are in crisis to meet essential life needs and to become self-sufficient. Crisis Control offers help with utility and housing payments, and food from our client choice food pantries to clients who qualify for their services. Clients who consistently find themselves in crisis may enroll in their Breaking the Cycle Program. They will work one-on-one with a case manager to uncover and address the reasons for their repeatedly falling into crisis. Individuals who cannot afford their prescription medications may be able to receive them from their licensed free pharmacy.river Oaks members regularly donate to this ministry. They teach women to better manage their lives. They also provide life and social skills training leading to employment, increased literacy, economic enhancement and long-term self-sufficiency. River Oaks assists in the Weekly Family Fun Nite activities allow women and their families to dine together, share special accomplishments and enjoy fun activities. The Samaritan Ministries Samaritan Inn The Samaritan Ministries Samaritan Inn provides a 69 bed, male homeless shelter where men can stay in a safe shelter for a maximum of 90 days. Guests receive shelter, dinner and breakfast. Samaritan counselors provide case management services.the third Thursday of the month River Oaks serves dinner and members sit and talk with the guests. 4 The Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministries The Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministries is an interdenominational Christian ministry that serves over 15,000 incarcerated men, women and youth each year. Volunteers, chaplains, and staff seek to guide inmates and their families to reconciliation with each other, the community and God.The core mission of this ministry is to serve the spiritual needs of incarcerated men, women and youth in Forsyth County as a Christian Ministry. The cornerstone of this Ministry is the counseling and pastoral relationships our chaplains maintain with our inmates. Worship services and Bible studies are a part of this relationship. Chaplains are also called to comfort inmates 24 hours a day during times of despair, isolation and hopelessness.the Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministries is a community funded ministry which provides Christian Ministry, counseling, and re-entry guidance to the incarcerated in our area. Programs include preparing for release, substance abuse, Yokefellows, Disciple Program, Adult Basic Education, community service programs, Prison Gospel Choir, in addition to worship and Bible Study opportunities. Individuals served are in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center, the Forsyth Correctional Center, and the Youth Detention Center, all located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Pantry serves an average of over 600 families and 1800 individuals each month. River Oaks collects food for the ministry and many members volunteer at the pantry.
