2 A word from the president 35,000 ICT professionals in Suisse Romande* ensure the competitiveness of our economy! «Albin Baptista, President of the Groupement Romand de l Informatique GRI» The Professions within Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and their multiple implications in companies, are central to our developed economies. These are demanding professions, in which rigor and know how, are indispensable competencies needed to evolve in a world where information is key. Our core missions are to build IT solutions, to design multimedia services, to manage their implementation and ultimately to exploit them to develop the competitive advantages of our companies. ICT professions in Switzerland represent more than 170,000 professionals who, day after day, contribute 5% of the GDP... more than 25 billion Swiss Francs. Maintaining and developing this market requires daily, concrete actions. Join us, so that together, we can maintain the competitiveness of our companies. *Suisse Romande is the French speaking region of Switzerland

3 The mission of the «GRI» The GRI is a professional association for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) which has the mission of Promoting and developing education for ICT professionals and users, Promoting and developing information for specialists, as well as the general public, related to our techniques, methods and profession, Developing collaboration and cooperation between members with a view to exchange ideas, knowledge, and experience in the field of ICT, Representing the Suisse Romande to the federal authorities, to other regional associations pursuing similar objectives, in Switzerland and abroad, Assisting in resolving conflicts that may occur in the field of ICT in particular between users, service providers, and other service offerings in this domain.

4 The Actions of the GRI Daily, the GRI works to achieve its objectives The GRI is the representative professional organization for all domains related to professional development in ICT careers, The GRI actively promotes Information Technology professions in order to provide the economy with the skills it needs over time, Through the umbrella organizations to which it belongs, the GRI participates in the definition of strategies related to new information technologies at the federal level, The GRI provides a court of arbitration for the ICT domain. Through its ThinkTank, the GRI offers a place for reflection related to ICT issues, At this time of great challenge for the Swiss ICT domain, our economy needs strong representation in Suisse Romande in the field of information technologies.

5 The GRI is a professional organization The challenge of education each year we lack nearly 7,000 new graduates, irrespective of qualifications Whilst new technologies are complementary, and interlock to eventually give rise to new innovations, and new companies countless manager s fear to become overwhelmed. Innovation allows companies to progress. But to innovate, companies need to grasp the opportunities, from which they can benefit In order to do this, they need to identify these opportunities, to implement and manage their interdependences, and to exploit the benefits. Continuous education is an important factor in employability and competency. It provides serious advantages to business executives by enabling them to acquire new tools that are essential to conduct their function. The GRI is a professional organization offering professional training in all ICT domains (development of management curriculums, interentreprise trainings, exam monitoring, Committee of vocational training, higher education, etc.).

6 The GRI supports and promotes ICT professions Employability and competencies Every day, the ICT profession is at the heart of hour activities. Whether in our private or professional lives, Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) have become ingrained in our daily lives. We use smartphones, play on consoles, communicate on facebook we also purchase products online, reserve tickets for concerts, access our bank accounts, and even call upon Doctor s online. All of these activities are only possible thanks to all of those dedicated professionals who have chosen careers in the domain of ICT. The GRI is responsible for communicating to compagny and government administrations about the broad range of ICT professions. In order to achieve this goal, the GRI regularly published professional literature, such as: The ICT professions and training curriculums The national Survey of ICT Salaries

7 The GRI offers a space for reflection To inform and popularize in order to better grasp new technologies and identify growth factors New technology is an undeniable growth factor in our society. Whether used to increase efficiency or to provide new services to an entreprise, it is essential to identifiy the framework and measure the level of value added. The Technology & Security commission (ThinkThank) studies the emerging technologies and their applications in the world economy. Recurring questions on topics such as : the Internet; virtualization; green computing; cloud; cyberdefense; languages or methods; and best practices a non exhaustive list emphasize the importance of understanding ICT domains in order to better integrate them into business strategies. The outcomes of this committee s reflections are communicated through information seminars held one or two times a year, which have met with great success.

8 The GRI is active with national umbrella organizations Joining forces to defend our profession As we all know when we join forces we are stronger! By being active in official umbrella organizations, our delegates have the objective of defending the Suisse Romande region s interests to the authorities by promoting the local economy and communicating its needs in terms of skills sets in the labor market. ICT-SR, Suisse Romande umbrella association in the domain of information technology. The «GRI» is a member of : ICT-Berufsbildung, National organization for professional education. IG-HFWI, national organization for graduate level education. The GRI is a founding member of : ICT-Switzerland, national umbrella association dealing with ICT issues.

9 The arbitration court of the GRI The complexity of our profession sometimes places us in delicate situations. Have the right reflex! The Arbitration Court is asked to rule on disputes that may occur between ICT users, vendors of software and equipment, or any other partner in the field of Information technology. The Arbitration court consists of judges who are themselves highly skilled IT professionals, and thus understand the technical problems inherent in such litigation. They act under the chairmanship of a judge or a lawyer. The Arbitration Court of Information Technologies is headquartered at the GRI. Considered as a complement to the local legal court, the Arbitration Court helps discharge the official legal system from cases that are difficult to analyze for nonspecialists. Moreover, it often avoids lengthy and costly legal proceedings.
