1 CURRICULUM HAJM08 VERSION HAJM08/ Title of curriculum: Law Code of curriculum's version: HAJM08/15 Valid from: 2015/2016 Educational aims of the curriculum: 1. to deliver thorough knowledge in areas of law in the context of European legal culture, to explain the role of law as one of the tools for organizing societal life, 2. to teach how to identify and implement the general principles of law, 3. to teach how to use law as a tool for the protection of democratic values and human rights, to teach the importance of ethics in making decisions and practical professional skills in different areas of law, 4. to develop the skills of logical reasoning, interpretation and analysis, 5. to give the knowledge, skills and values that form the specific education of legal scholars and the acquisition of which is a prerequisite for further studies at doctorate level, 6. to assist in the implementation of lifelong learning, 7. to give the necessary prerequisites for starting careers in positions that require a master_s degree in Law (such as judge, sworn attorney, prosecutor, bailiff, notary, bankruptcy administrator, company lawyer, legal advisor, lecturer), and also in positions in which it is necessary to have a full understanding of the global and local community as well as the legal environment (such as government official, local government official, EU or international institution official, diplomatic officer). Learning outcomes: Upon completion of the curriculum, the student: - has a detailed overview of law and the theoretical basis, impact and role of law in the development of society; - can recognize the interdisciplinary relationships between law and the areas it regulates; - has developed the skills of decision-making, reasoning, analysis and logical thinking at a level that is prerequisite for independently defining and solving legal problems; - takes into account in professional activity the diversity of values in society and follows the principles of the rule of law, democracy, equal treatment, tolerance, and acts ethically when implementing professional knowledge as well as knows the requirements for professional activity; - can implement law in the context of multi-level governance; - can utilize both normative and academic resources in solving practical problems; - is prepared to continue studies at doctorate level. LIST OF COURSES ACCORDING TO CURRICULAR PARTS Basic studies Foundations of the European Legal Space Goals: To increase the students knowledge of legal methodologies, to develop their skills of applying such methodologies as well as to improve the understanding related to values and principles of the European legal space. Study results: - has in depth knowledge of and can practically apply the legal methods; - can analyse the legal norms deriving from the values and principles of the European legal space; - knows the main methodologies for analysing the undertaking s activities and can apply such methodologies while solving legal issues. 3 Core studies ivate law Goals: To provide competence and skills to solve legal issues within the court procedures as well as in legal disputes outside of courts. Study results: - knows different court procedures and the differentiation between them, rules of court jurisdiction, as well as others important legal norms and principles that are necessary for representing a client in legal disputes; - knows the means and methods of alternative dispute resolution, including arbitral proceedings and mediation proceedings; - is able to independently find the best solutions for representing the client s interests in legal proceedings. Study results: - has a thorough understanding of the principles of the functioning of the European Union internal market; - can analyse the legal issues deriving from the basic principles of the European Union internal market; - can apply the principles of the European Union internal market in practice. 4 Free choice courses Free choice courses Goals: To enable the students to plan their personal study path according to interest areas and plans for further study and work. Study results: According to courses chosen. Graduation thesis Master s Thesis Goals: To give to the student the abilities to work with legal topics and to develop the argumentation skills when presenting the arguments. The student must be able to present logically strctured and analytical research paper, which includes a hypothesis, in which methods of social sciences have been used, and which also utilises correct referencing styles, contemporary sources and draws original conclusions, which are based on the hypothesis. Study results: - can analyse legal facts, frame the research topic; - can work with different sources, including normative materials; - can compile correct and logically strcutured text; - is analytical and innovative in legal thinking; - presents arguments convincingly, using techniques of legal argumentation; - is able to define legal research questions and make independent onclusions; - can establish interdisciplinary connection between law and other scientific fields; - uses legal and scientific language in the thesis writing procedure and is guided by the requirements of formatting and citing rules applicable to research works; - is able to present his/her research work and defend his/her viewpoints in a public performance. Special studies modules: European Union and international law The primary module of European Union and international law Goals: To provide knowledge of most important fields of European Union and international law. Study results: - knows the legal sources that regulate international business and is able to find the norms applicable in legal matters; - knows how to analyse the European Union directives and knows the principles of their transposition; - knows the regulation of matters related to EU external relations.
