3 Why GBAS? Reduced operating costs due to longer maintenance and flight calibration intervals It is possible to programme up to 49 approach procedures, this means: One system for several runways When approach procedures are changed, only the parameters have to be modified GBAS uses computed points in space versus a fixed ILS Beam Enables flexible approaches ILS requires extensive Critical and Sensitive zones GBAS only requires protection from multi-path near the receivers Gabriele Zaki Seite 3

13 TUIfly Experience 20 documented GLS approaches (GBAS Reporting Form) conducted by TUIfly all of them successful. Criteria used to determine successful approaches similar to CAT III approaches apart from automatic landing. The introduction of the landing system to the pilots consisted in explaining the system and the trial; no new approach procedures were created, instead flight crew was instructed to fly GLS approaches like ILS approaches. No reports of problems procedural wise were received. Pilots conducting GLS approaches were asked to monitor the performance with a backup approach during the trials - in no case a reversion to the backup due to discrepancies became necessary. Taking all these facts into account TUIfly as an operator concluded the project was successful. Gabriele Zaki Seite 14
14 Air Berlin Experience The feedback has been consistently positive, the system works properly. In personal conversation with the pilots they praised primarily the accuracy and stability of the approach. Even in this brief evaluation phase the acceptance of the system by the crews is very high.
