Both are taught by certified instructors. Certificates are awarded upon successful course completion. Some classes require successful completion of hands-on skills and/or a written examination. Learn the importance of vehicle dynamics, driver selection criteria, preparing the vehicle, the PA Vehicle Code and safe operations. Includes behind-the-wheel practice in your vehicle. Must attend all sessions. PA Dept. of Health con. ed. credits applied for. Min. age, 18. Tues. & Thurs., May 12 & 14, 6:30 10:30 p.m. & Sun, May 17, 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m., John Rock, $38. + $10. material fee provides textbook. Pump Operations I (PUOP) PPRX Don t just be a lever puller! Learn how to establish pump settings for a variety of hand line layouts. Pump construction and theory, hose and nozzle layouts, simple hydraulic formulas and hand rules, preventative maintenance and testing procedures are included. Turnout gear required. Min. age, Mon. & 2 Weds., starting May 11, 6:30 10:30 p.m., Chad Warfield, $28. Pump Operations II (PUOA) 15/ES PPRX Take this follow-up pump class which covers master stream appliances, supplying aerial ladders, relay pumping, supplying standpipes and sprinkler systems and flowing multiple lines. Must have completed Pump Operations I. Turnout gear required. Min. age, 18. Mon. & Weds., Jun. 15 & 17, 6:30 10:30 p.m. and Sun., June 21, 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m., $28. Command The way we fight fires is changing. Pushing fire and always using aggressive interior attacks are being challenged by ground-breaking, scientific research. Learn what the science is telling us and how to adapt your tactics to modern construction methods and fire dynamics. These two short sessions are for every officer and firefighter. Fundamentals of Fire Dynamics (FDF) 15/LS PPRX Discover what the new research conducted by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and other fire service organizations is telling us. This course introduces new fire dynamics terminology, legacy verse modern fuel loads, new construction techniques, flow paths, door control and ventilation that impacts fire ground operations in a different way than conventional strategy and tactics would suggest. 3 WESTMORELAND COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE Page 3 Fire Dynamics: Strategy & Tactics (FDST) 15/LS PPRX Fire attack methods are changing due to some ground-breaking research conducted by UL, NIST and the ATF. Re-learn the basic concepts of strategy and tactics and how to apply the latest fire research to update your fire ground operations. New terminology, ventilation, flow paths, door control, transitional fire attack, basement fires and new concepts for developing strategy and tactics are presented. Weds., Aug. 5, 7 10 p.m., Tyler Olsen, $6. Fire Suppression PA Entry Level Firefighter Training Changes! The PA Entry Level training program has been revised again and PA has adopted IFSTA training materials. WCCC will offer the IFSTA program in the fall. Although the same four courses are still offered, the content and hours have been revised and separate hazardous materials and NIMS training are still required. All of these changes will allow you to move into the Firefighter I test with ease. Consider taking the Advanced Firefighter class if you want to take the Firefighter II test. Here are the IFSTA hours for the new PA entry level program [7 hours less]: Course Hours Introduction to the Fire Service 16 Haz. Mat. Awareness 4 Fireground Support 32 NIMS ICS 100 & 700 (taken on-line) - Exterior Firefighter 52 Haz. Mat. Operations 24 Interior Firefighter 40 Total 168 Advanced Firefighter (ELAF) 15/LS PPRX This course provides the knowledge and skills to master the Firefighter II skill areas and would make a great prep class for those interested in certification testing. Topics include: building construction, fire safety surveys/fire and life safety presentation, generators, lighting equipment and introduction to technical rescue, fire protection systems and hose service testing, fire control combustible liquid foam and flammable gas fires, coordinating fire ground operations and communications, advanced fire origin and cause determination and arson investigation techniques. Minimum age, 18. Must have previously completed the Interior Firefighter (ELIF) or Essentials of Firefighting (EBM). The student must provide a full set of PPE and SCBA. Two Tues. & two Thurs. starting July 14, 6:30 10:30 p.m. and Sat., July 25, 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m., Jim Bittner, $32.

4 WESTMORELAND COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE Page 4 Firefighter Certification Testing The second scheduled Firefighter I test is Oct. 24 & 25. The application deadline is 4 p.m., Fri., Sept. 25, Firefighter II is scheduled for Sept. 12 & 13, Take the NEW Advanced Firefighter class and get ready to test. Interior Firefighter (ELIF) 15/ES PPRX The final class for entry level firefighters specializing in interior fire ground operations. Selfcontained breathing apparatus, rescue, ventilation, fire suppression, salvage and overhaul, firefighter survival, protective systems and a live fire exercise are included. Satisfactory completion of a written exam and skills required to receive a certificate. Exterior Firefighter [ELEF] and Hazardous Materials Operations [DHMO] are prerequisites. Bring your certificate copies to the first class. You must provide turnout gear, SCBA, notebook and pen/pencil. You must be 18 by first class. Starts Tues., June 9. Meets: June 9, 11, 13, 16, 18, 23, 25 & 27. Times: Tues. & Thurs., 6:30 10:30 p.m. and Sats., 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m., Kris Cattau, $50. + $15. lab fee. Structural Fire Rescue (SFR) 15/LS PPRX Firefighters are trained to effectively locate and remove fire victims from above and below grade locations using various lifts, carries, drags and casualty transport devices. This is a rigorous, hands-on course requiring full turnout gear and SCBA. Learn general rescue techniques, rope, knot and hitch review, using litters and stokes baskets, ground ladders and lowering systems and residential, commercial and large area search techniques and practice. Students must have previously completed an Essentials or Fundamentals of Firefighting course. Limit 24. Tues. & Thurs., July 28 & 30, 6:30 10:30 p.m., and Sat., Aug. 1, 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m., Mark Ghion, $32. Truck Company Operations I (TRCO) 15/LS PPRX Basic truck company duties including hand and power tool operation, search and rescue and ventilation techniques are presented. Working with the engine company is also provided. Even if you don t have an aerial, this class will provide valuable fire ground information. Turnout gear and SCBA required. Student should have completed Essentials or Fundamentals of Firefighting. Min. age: 18. Mon. & Weds., July 6 & 8, 6:30 10:30 p.m. and Sat., July 11, 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m., Michael Cramer, $32.

5 WESTMORELAND COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE Page 5 Rescue Rope/High Angle Rescue I (RORE) 15/ES PPRX This is the first course in the rope rescue series and is required for the Confined Space Rescue course. Provides an introduction to rope, knots and hitches, rappelling techniques and basic haul systems. Helmet, boots and gloves required. Limit 24. Mon. & Weds., June 22 & 24, 6:30 10:30 p.m. & Sat., June 27, 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m., Michael Dortenzo, $38. Rope/High Angle Rescue II (RORA) 15/LS PPRX A continuation of Rope High Angle Rescue I with a review of vertical rescue techniques and equipment. Students will become proficient in rigging various haul systems, stokes basket tie in and lowering, belaying and tying off, basic ascending with mechanical systems and 2 or 3 knot prussik configurations and completing a low-angle stokes basket evolution using various raises and lowers. Student must have completed Rope High Angle Rescue I, provide suitable work clothing, boots and helmet and a notebook and pen/pencil. Limit 24. Tues. & Thurs., July 7 & 9, 6:30 10:30 p.m. & Sat., July 11, 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m., Michael Dortenzo, $38 Support Operations Heartsaver CPR w/pediatric AED 15/ES MEDX A video-based, instructor-led, American Heart Association course that teaches adult, child and infant CPR and AED and how to relieve choking. Teaches with AHA's research-proven Practice- While-Watching (PWW) technique, allowing the instructor to observe, provide feedback and guide your skills learning. Two-year certification awarded upon successful completion. Purchase and review the text, Heartsaver CPR Student Workbook, at the WCCC Bookstore before class. This class is held at the Youngwood Campus and double-tuition rates apply. Tues., Jun. 16, 6 10 p.m., Youngwood, BIC bldg., $29. + $9. mat. fee. The college reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrollment and to change meeting dates, times, locations or instructors.

6 WESTMORELAND COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE Page 6 Course Fees Course fees are fixed for all students. Once registered, a statement is mailed to your home. Fees are payable by the first class session to: Accounts Receivable Westmoreland Co. Community College 145 Pavilion Lane Youngwood, PA If your organization is paying the fees, take the Registration Statement to the appropriate person and instruct them to remove the tear-off portion and enclose with the check (payable to: WCCC). If paying in person, checks are suggested. Course Cancellation The college reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrollment. An attempt will be made to call you when classes are cancelled. Provide two telephone numbers at the time of registration (and verify the accuracy of current information). All tuition and fees are automatically refunded to the student when classes are cancelled. The student is responsible to return monies to third-party agencies. Minimum Age Participation of minors is subject to the Child Labor Laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. See the website: The minimum age is sixteen (16) at the first class for all courses, except as noted. You must be eighteen (18) years old by the first class to enroll in: Structural Firefighting, Basic Vehicle Rescue classes, Aerial/Truck Apparatus classes, Pump Operations I & II, Rapid Intervention Crew Exercises, Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVOC) or other classes prohibited by the Child Labor Laws (Act of 1915, P. L. 286, No. 177, as amended). That would include, but not be limited to, classes involving live fires, operating hydraulic equipment/tools, using electrical equipment or torches, driving emergency vehicles and operating pumps. Gear Many classes require gear and breathing apparatus. See course descriptions. Unless the description says otherwise, you won t need gear for the first class session. The instructor will advise when and what gear is needed.

7 WESTMORELAND COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE Page 7 Refunds The number of days or weeks to determine refunds is calculated by counting the actual days from the starting date of the course and not by counting the course meeting dates. For courses meeting one week or less: If you officially drop before the course starts, you may be eligible to receive a 100% refund of tuition and fees. There are no refunds after this date. For courses two weeks - four weeks: If you officially drop through the first three days of the course, you may be eligible to receive a 100% refund of tuition and fees. There are no refunds after this date. For courses five weeks - nine weeks: If you officially drop through the first week of the course, you may be eligible to receive a 100% refund of tuition and fees. There are no refunds after the first week of the course. For courses of 10 weeks - 19 weeks: If you officially drop through the first week of the course, you may be eligible to receive a 100% refund of tuition and fees. If you officially drop during the second week of the course, you may be eligible to receive a 60% refund of tuition. There are no refunds after the second week of the course. Refunds of payments received by cash, check or credit card will be issued in the form a check made payable to the student. You must call the Registration Center to officially drop a course. If you do not officially drop, you remain obligated for all tuition and fees. Call the registration number below to withdraw. Radios, Cell Phones & Pagers Today s cell phones and pagers help us in this fast-paced society. However, the interruptions these devices create in an educational setting are disruptive. Therefore, we ask you to turn off these devices during all lectures and practical training activities. However, the use of a portable computer to take class notes is acceptable. Training Equipment & Apparatus The Public Safety Training Center owns numerous items of hands-on training equipment. We have rope rescue gear, hose, nozzles and appliances, ladders, salvage equipment and breathing apparatus. The college also has a Hahn 1,500 gpm fire engine with 1 ½, 1 ¾, 2, 2 ½, 3 and 5 hose. Your department is always encouraged to send apparatus and equipment with the student(s), if possible. That will afford your firefighters the opportunity to become familiar with your equipment.

8 WESTMORELAND COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE Page 8 Off Site DOH Con Ed Requests Sometimes, departments wish to receive PA Dept. of Health con ed credits for classes at local fire stations. To do this, we must have your Local Level Course Application form in our office at least 45 days before the start date. This is necessary to comply with the 30 day notice to EMSI. Requests received with less than a 45-day notice will not be eligible for PA Dept. of Health con ed time. Fall Fire Science Technology Consider taking one of these Fall 2015 Fire Science Technology classes held at the Youngwood Campus: FST 101, Introduction to Fire Science; FST 103, Fire Service Administration; FST 109, Building Codes & Standards; FST 114, Life Safety for Special Occupancies or FST 115, Fire Department Safety Officer. Don t forget, WCCC has a tuition waiver program for active Westmoreland County volunteer firefighters. Contact our Admissions Office, , for details. If you have a question about these credit classes, call Outside Facility Rental The WCCC Board of Trustees approved a policy to... make many of the Public Safety Training Center facilities available, on a pre-scheduled and space-available basis, to any Westmoreland County public safety agency at no cost. A certificate of insurance indicating minimum general liability, automobile liability and workers compensation is required. Special Class Sections If your department would like to have a class just for your members at the Public Safety Training Center, call us.
