The Foundation in Business Administration and English is an intensive eight week programme which introduces key business and management concepts and theories. It provides a good grounding of the knowledge and skills applicable to essential management disciplines needed to prepare you as a strong MBA or Masters Candidate. The programme is designed to develop delegates in three important areas. It will: introduce you to key management and business concepts pertinent to postgraduate courses in business and management disciplines strengthen your study skills in the English language, such as communication and presentation skills, report writing, text analysis and reasoning exercises provide a comprehensive overview of general management skills in particular team working and leadership. 4 04 About the programme This intensive eight week programme will develop skills in three key areas and give an excellent overview of modern business practice. How you learn The programme uses the Manchester Method, a unique practical learning approach which replicates real world business challenges through cases studies, group projects, simulations and presentations. You will be placed in a wide range of situations which mirror both those of postgraduate degrees at MBS and the workplace, enabling you to deal more effectively with the challenges that you face in your subsequent studies. The programme spans over June, July and August. There are approximately 170 contact hours, and 40 hours of self and group study. Included within the total cost of the course is: tuition, course materials and use of computer lab and library some social and cultural events Programme content Strategic Management This is an introduction to understanding business environments and their impact on developing strategy in an ever changing world. Management of Organisations and Human Resources This module explores the importance and effect of a range of issues relating to the design, structure, management style and culture of an organisation. Marketing This module focuses on providing an insight into the role of marketing and how this function helps communicate with the organisation s stakeholders. You will also examine how organisations differentiate themselves from competitors, and how they develop sustainable competitive advantage. Operations Management and Decision Making This module explains how organisations produce goods and services. It gives an insight into what the operations function is and what the operations manager does. Accounting and Finance Financial Accounting will enable you to understand how the financial statements of different business entities, such as sole traders and limited companies, are prepared. Management Accounting introduces the techniques that can be used by the management of an organisation to help them improve planning and decision making. Study Skills Communication and Presentation Skills You will improve your presentation skills, learn to organise content in a logical, persuasive and efficient manner, and also how to give effective and relevant illustrations. In addition, the module covers the language of meetings and demonstrates how to chair and conduct meetings. Interpersonal and inter-group communication is also explored. The European Business Environment This module covers the following: The single market and EMU European business organisations The changing European environment and its strategic implications Financing European business Accessing European markets Alternative models of the European business organisation It was good to cover both theory and work on case studies Manager from China
