Nursing Program Admission PROCEDURE AND CRITERIA
Change in Admission Requirements EFFECTIVE 1/2009 SECTION 1. Section of the Education Code A California Community College that operates a registered nursing program shall not require a student who has been admitted to that registered nursing program and who has already earned a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education to undertake any coursework other than the coursework that is unique and exclusively required to earn a nursing degree from that institution.
Admission Requirements (Cont d) Assembly Bill 1559 mandated California registered nursing schools to develop criteria for determination of who will be accepted into their programs SBVC has developed a system based on a template developed by the California Community College Chancellor s Office
Current Waitlist Students who are currently on the waitlist will remain on the waitlist until their number comes up. Students on waitlist must reactivate each term to remain on the waitlist. Those on the waitlist also have the option to apply via the point system. However, those students who have not yet applied to the nursing program will no longer be placed on the waitlist.
Acceptance Ratios Due to the high volume of students on the waitlist, 75% of those accepted will come directly from the existing waitlist. 25% of those accepted will be admitted via the Point System. Approximately students are admitted into the generic ADN program per semester depending on funding.
Point System The new admission procedure for entrance to the nursing program has been adopted by the SBCCD effective Fall New admission to the program is competitively based on a points system. Maximum number of points that can be earned is 100; according to the following five categories.
