2 Configuration wizard launches when PowerChute is first installed.

3 Select proper network settings.

4 Select IP address that will be registered with network management card if there are Multiple network connections for the system PowerChute is installed on.

7 Advanced UPS Setups Add UPS Setup In an Advanced UPS configuration, a single instance of PowerChute Network Shutdown can monitor multiple UPS setups and initiate graceful shutdown of equipment based on different redundancy levels. Each setup can be a single UPS or a UPS group. A single UPS setup is represented by the icon. A UPS group is represented by the icon. For example, one setup may be a group of UPS's that are configured with N+2 redundancy. Another setup may be a single UPS. NOTE: PowerChute has been tested with a total of 16 NMCs in an advanced configuration. However, it is possible to configure for more than 16 NMCs in this configuration. Also, All UPS s in a Redundant UPS configuration must be from the same UPS Family as opposed to the same UPS model. For example; SMX, SMT or SUA Smart UPS can be mixed together but an SMX Smart UPS cannot be mixed with an SURT model which belongs to the Smart UPS On Line.

8 Enter user name and password. Note: user name must match the user name of the network management card.

9 Click Add UPS(s)

10 Select Single UPS or UPS Group and enter name then click Add IP Address.

11 For this example we enter the name Stand alone UPS as a single UPS type.

12 Enter the IP Address and click OK.

13 The IP Address of the single UPS has been added. Click OK to exit the set up.

14 The single UPS is now added the list. You can now click next to complete the configuration or click Add UPS(s) again to add more single UPS or a Group.

15 Adding a UPS group.

16 Named the UPS group First Group and clicked Add IP Address.

17 Added 1 st IP Address to the group. NOTE: UPS group must have a minimum of 2 unique IP Addresses.

18 Added 2nd IP Address to the group.

19 The IP Address of the First Group UPS has been added. Click OK to exit the set up.

20 The First Group is now added the list. You can now click next to complete the configuration or click Add UPS(s) again to add more single UPS or a Group.

21 Adding a second UPS group.

22 Added 3 NMCs / UPS to the next group named Second Group.

23 There are now 3 entities add. 1 single UPS and 2 groups. Click next to continue or add another single UPS or group.

24 Click Apply to accept setting

25 PowerChute will attempt to register with the added NMC / UPS.

26 Click Next once all UPS / NMC have been successfully Registered with.

27 If the UPS have switchable outlet group/s select the outlet group the will be used and then click apply.

28 Once PowerChute registers with the outlet group/s click Next.

29 Select proper settings for each configuration and click Next. Note: Description of each of these settings can be found starting on Page 32 of this PDF. In PowerChute help files, PowerChute Users Guide, and Application Notes.

32 Shutdown Settings for Advanced UPS Configurations With Advanced UPS configurations, PowerChute can monitor multiple UPS setups, including single UPS devices and groups of redundant UPS devices that you have created. For each setup, you need to specify the following: Number of UPS s required to power load: Set this value to the minimum number of UPS s that must be available to support the equipment that is being powered by the UPS s in the setup. The value set here will be subtracted from the total number of UPS s in the setup and used to calculate the number of additional (redundant) UPS s. In redundancy terminology, this is the N in N+x. This setting is not displayed for UPS Setups with a Single UPS device.

33 Number of additional (redundant) UPS s: This will appear in a setup with more than one UPS. It represents the number of extra UPS s in the setup. This option is associated with the number of UPS critical events required to trigger shutdown: Redundancy level No. of critical events that will trigger a shutdown sequence N+1 2 N+2 3 N+3 4 Multiple critical events occurring on the same UPS does not impact the above table values. In redundancy terminology, this is the x in N+x. This setting is not displayed for UPS Setups with a Single UPS device. Total number of UPS s in Setup: This is the total of the above two rows and is calculated automatically.

34 Run Command: When a shutdown sequence is triggered you can configure PowerChute to execute a command file. Note: If the same command file is configured for each setup and a shutdown sequence is triggered for more than one setup at the same time, the command file is only executed once. Shut down PowerChute Server: This is enabled by default and is used to gracefully shut down the physical machine running PowerChute. This option should be disabled if the PowerChute machine is not being powered by the UPS s in a particular setup, and if it is being used to remotely shut down other servers/ equipment. This option is not available if PowerChute is installed on vma or deployed as a virtual appliance.

35 Shut down if Redundancy lost: If this option is enabled, when the number of UPS critical events is the same as the number of additional (redundant) UPS s, a shutdown sequence will be Triggered. This option is associated with the number of UPS critical events required to trigger shutdown: Redundancy Level No. of critical events that will trigger a shutdown sequence. N+1 1 N+2 2 N+3 3 Multiple critical events occurring on the same UPS does not impact the above table values. This option is not shown if there are no additional (redundant) UPS s. For example, this option will not appear if the number of UPS s required to power the load is the same as the total number of UPS s in the group.

36 UPS Shutdown: Use this option to set the required UPS behavior after connected servers/equipment have been gracefully shut down.

37 Click Finish to open the PCNS web page.
