8 General Description: Dual Credit courses are for Grade 11 & 12 students. As well, SHSM and OYAP students may receive some industry-specific certifications in Dual Credit courses. As ministry-approved courses, Dual Credits allow students (while they are still in secondary school), to take college or apprenticeship courses that count towards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and a postsecondary certificate, diploma, or degree, or an apprenticeship certification. Students may earn credits towards the OSSD through courses delivered by publicly funded colleges in Ontario that are participating in the ministry-approved dual credit program. Students may earn up to four optional credits through college-delivered courses. To register, students need to complete the following steps: Pre-select Dual Credit course(s) on Career Cruising and/or speak with their home-school guidance counsellor. Ensure that they have a flexible timetable to accommodate that the dual credit course(s) do not conflict with day-school scheduled classes. Dual Credit Accelerated OYAP General Description: Students can earn their high school credits, register as an apprentice, complete all or part of their Level One Apprenticeship schooling in this specific trade, and earn hours/competencies towards their apprenticeship. Accelerated OYAP is an integral component of school-work transition programming, student success and SHSM. Students will gain knowledge and experience under the supervision of a skilled professional at an apprenticeship workplace, and attend in-school sessions at the college/training institution. Program components include pre-placement and integration sessions at their home school, all or part of their Level One training at the college/training institution, and a cooperative education placement in the trade specific setting. This program is intended to assist secondary students in their final year of high school with an interest and a demonstrated aptitude in this specific trade to complete their OSSD and to support their successful transition to college and apprenticeship programs. Students must be a minimum of 16 years of age and have earned all compulsory courses required for an OSSD. Please see your Co-op Department for detailed information sheets on the Individual Dual Credit Accelerated OYAP programs.
