Denbigh High School s Aviation Academy is a specialized four-year program to prepare highly motivated and successful high school students for a rewarding and well paying career in engineering technology with an emphasis on aviation and computers. The standards are high at the Aviation Academy, and every effort is made to provide a caring, disciplined environment where students are given the opportunity to excel and reach their goal with minimal classroom disruptions. The technology courses provide challenging subject material to enhance students reading, writing, science and math skills. The Aviation Academy strongly encourages students to works toward an advanced diploma that concentrates in dual credit, technology or Aviation courses. All students are required to take physics, chemistry and four years of math. Students who have a B average in math and obtain certification in an approved technology area will be awarded an Advanced Math and Technology seal on their diploma. Aviation Academy staff members have high expectations for students preparing for college and highly skilled, professional career fields. Visit the Aviation Academy website at: Download the Aviation Academy brochure at: 5
6 Concentration Track Descriptions Listed below are each of the course descriptions that students are eligible to take when they are selected for the academy. Aviation Technology Students learn the terminology, concepts and procedures through hands-on experiences that blend in the dynamics of the aircraft. By completing this sequence they are enabled to prepared for taking the General Maintenance Technician certification. Aviation Flight Operations The vital and pertinent knowledge of everything from learning to fly aircraft itself to the actual operations of an airport. Courses also involve understanding the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines where this information will prepare them to take the FAA Air Traffic Control exam. Aviation Professional There is nothing like working at the place you want to be while pursuing your education! Here students carry their knowledge obtained from classes and fuse it with current practices and experiences. Aviation Aerospace Dual credit can be earned through this concentration. Here students are taught A+ coursework where their programming knowledge allows them to be eligible for the Comp TIA A+ certification exam and/or Microsoft Technology Associate which is accepted nationally in this field. All students will follow the advanced diploma track in addition to the Aviation electives. The following pages outline the four course concentration tracks with electives that are strongly encouraged based upon their course of study listed above. 6 DENBIGH HIGH SCHOOL & Aviation Academy MAGNET PROGRAM
