1 Integrating the Allscripts Electronic Medical Records Software with the Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series for Small Business This application note provides guidelines and configuration instructions for the Cisco Unified Communications 500 System for Small Business, middleware software from EXTENSION, and Allscripts Electronic Medical Records (EMR) application. The small office healthcare sector is a fast-paced industry, in which unified communications have been largely underserved. Allscripts, the leader in Electronic Medical Records software (EMR), can be integrated into Cisco IP Telephony infrastructure using a mediation application from EXTENSION that allows administrators to enable alerts, escalations, and intelligent browsing from IP phones and soft phones. The information in this document applies to Cisco Configuration Assistant Version 2.1 or above and Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series software pack Version and up Cisco Systems, Inc. 2 Scope and Assumptions The information in this application note is intended for use by Cisco small and medium-sized VARs and Cisco SMB Specialized Partners. We strongly recommend that users have a Cisco Express Foundation Specialization. It is assumed that users are familiar with configuration of voice and security features on the Cisco Smart Business Communications System (SBCS) and are also familiar with the Cisco IOS command-line interface. It is also assumed that users are familiar with fundamental data and voice networking. The scope of this application note is limited to configuration of the EXTENSION application and the Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series provisioning, with a high-level overview of the configuration steps required for the Allscripts application. This document does not cover configuration of additional or optional voice and networking features. The customization and configuration options for the Allscripts portal are also outside of the scope of this document. The procedures in this application assume the following: Each site has been provisioned for WAN connection to the Internet. IP connectivity to Allscripts service is in place (direct or through VPN). Each site has been provisioned for voice users and for public switched telephone network (PSTN) termination (if required) Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. 4 Basic Network Topology Figure 1 illustrates the most common deployment scenario for Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series and the Allscripts service, with the EXTENSION appliance. For this application note, two extensions are represented, the physician s phone and the site nurse s phone. Figure 1. 5 Configuring the MyWay Application to Integrate with EXTENSION This stage of the configuration involves the following steps: 1) Configure all HL-7 Partners in MyWay. To do this: a. Log in to the MyWay application. b. Select List Editor from the Tools menu. c. Expand Interfacing Engine and select HL-7 Partners. d. Click Search. e. Select Tripractix. f. Configure Segment Separator, Start Message, and Stop Message to match the settings shown in Figure 2. Configure TCP Sockets to match the IP address of the EXTENSION appliance. 6 Configuring the Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series to Integrate with EXTENSION The next stage of the configuration involves the following steps: 1) Open a console session to the Unified Communications 500 Series. To do this: a. Use an Ethernet cable to connect your PC to one of the LAN ports on the Unified Communications 500 Series. b. Open the Cisco Configuration Assistant and connect to the UC 500. c. Navigate to Applications >> General Settings and enter the Service URL and Authentication URL specified below. In this example, the EXTENSION appliance has the IP Figure 3 Configuring the UC 500 Notice that only one authentication URL is supported, which means that other features like VoiceView Express will not work when integrating with Allscripts. 7 Configuring Users in EXTENSION To set user up in EXTENSION, follow these steps: 1) To create the user profile: a. From the EXTENSION admin console, select Users from the Security menu. b. Click the blue Create button. [[The button in the screen shot says Create not New User.]] c. Enter all the pertinent information, paying special attention to PIN (this is the number the user will use to log in to EXTENSION on Cisco phones). d. Select the Active option. Figure 4 shows the Create a New User page. Figure 4 Create a New User Page 2) Assign memberships to the user: a. Click Add memberships for xxxxxxx. b. Select the role to assign the user to. c. Repeat steps a and b until all roles are assigned properly. 3) Assign participations to the user: a. Click Add participations for xxxxxxx. b. Select the dataset to assign the user to. c. Repeat steps a and b until all participations are assigned properly. After the users have been defined, the different productivity services can be accessed from the phone menu. 10 Limitations and Caveats The following is a list of known limitations: When replacing the authentication URL, Cisco WebEx PhoneConnect, Cisco VoiceView Express, and Cisco TimeCardView cannot be used in conjunction with this integration. If you enable any of these smart applications, Cisco Configuration Assistant will overwrite authentication URL, breaking access to EXTENSION. A static IP address is recommended for the EXTENSION appliance. The Cisco SPA525G 5-line IP Phone with Color Display is not currently supported with EXTENSION XML services Cisco Systems, Inc.
