2 Corporate Responsibility Report 2010 Aena and Culture Aena, with its activity to promote culture, developed primarily through the Aena Foundation and Aena Documentation Centre, aims to: Increasing public interest in aviation in general. Extending the aeronautical culture to the children education Assist Aena people in both their professional and in their cultural needs. Meeting the needs of researchers in the aviation sector Airports are also a culture showcase

3 The value of intangible dissemination of artistic and cultural heritage, artistic and technical activities, publications, the centralization of interest documentation to our people, for researchers and anyone interested in aviation in general. Aena considers that the satisfaction of the intangible expectations of its groups of interest must be a constant in its management. Therefore, based on the following premises: There are many citizens interested in the artistic companies. Aena and Aena Foundation want to meet these specific actions to develop intellectual curiosity to give a different and closer view of the organization dedicated to the management of airports and air navigation. To help to build a culture of aviation is important to contribute to the education of young children. For years, Aena regularly organizes visits for children to all airports, aimed explaining all the activities necessary for aircraft to carry out their operations. Ciudadanos Interesados Niños Personas de Aena Personal Investigador Aena Foundation: Promoting aeronautical art and culture Aena Foundation was created in December 1994 on the initiative of Aena for the purpose of promoting aviation culture, manage the cultural and artistic heritage accumulated in its centers in Spain, and to ensure their preservation and dissemination in the Spanish society. The Foundation demonstrates its commitment to society and culture through initiatives such as: Aena Foundation manages the artistic heritage of the airports, comprising more than 1,500 works from the second half of the twentieth century. The culture of Aena people helps to meet their intangibles needs. There is a group of people very important to Aena, which could be called researcher, comprised of individuals from the university, students, researchers or simply interested in different fields of knowledge of aviation area. Alongside the numerous activities carried out by different units of Aena, through the Foundation and the Documentation Center, Aena is meeting the needs of aeronautical culture intangibles, through the promotion of culture, specifically through: Call for annual awards to outstanding projects that contribute to the development of air transport, university final projects on airports and air navigation, and journalism or photography in these areas. 4 Aena Foundation is not part of the scope of this annual report (see Chapter Annual Report Profile), it is of great importance to the organization for its contribution to the promotion of culture and art of Aena. Therefore, despite the economic situation, Aena made a financial contribution to the Foundation that is maintaining over recent years and strengthening its commitment to the promotion of culture and the arts as one of its core values. Conferences and Foundation Publications: Throughout 2010 the Aena Foundation held a series of exhibitions and conferences that had great acceptance by the public, among which include: A century of the Spanish aeronautical industry. Futuro de La Cartuja Pavilion in Seville (in the commemoration of the Centenary of Aviation in Seville), attended by 20,000 visitors. Art at Airports. Aena Collection of Contemporary Art at the Art Center Tomás y Valiente of Fuenlabrada (Madrid), with the assistance of 8,400 visitors Aena collection of graphic art. Key issue: Aena Foundation aims to encourage primary aeronautical culture, manage the historical and artistic heritage accumulated in Spanish airports and ensure its preservation and dissemination in society. Aena Foundation exhibition Other Foundation activities: The Foundation carries out activities related to environmental preservation, education, the promotion of art and culture, etc., many of them in collaboration with Aena, noting: Exhibition Birds, travelers without borders (in the airports of Valladolid, Badajoz and Leon). Guided tours of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia and other activities. This activity was conducted within the Aena Social Action Plan in collaboration with the Dirección de Organización y Recursos Humanos (Department of Corporate Benefits and Social Projects). Distribution of Foundation publications aimed at the Authorities and VIP lounges at all airports operated by Aena, as well as a donation of 1,640 publications to the Air Force to its library network. 140

6 The Aena people culture, its employees, is one of the areas of operation of the organization. Aena also believes that in the cultural field has to be provided to employees all relevant literature that allow developing usual work with quality and with level of information that characterizes an industry so specialized. This availability information promotes many activities, products high added value and facilitates the daily work helping to meet the intangibles in a more than 13,000 people team. DISTRIBUTION OF THE NUMBER OF USERS Aena Foundation Exhibition Aena Documentation center The Documentation Center is an area of technical information resources for aviation professionals, which contributes to effective knowledge management and technological development and quality of Aena services. Total users External users «The Aena Documentation Center offers expert advice and collaboration as well as editing, distribution and sale of publications on aviation issues» The graph shows the number of users of the Aena Documentation and Publications Center, both internal (Aena people) and external has been increasing steadily in recent years. Remarkable is the significant activity for advice and assistance to persons outside Aena (external users) and whose type is varied: Travelers to areas infrequently, journalists and media, documentation centers, university professors, students, etc. 141

7 It is also important to highlight the ongoing relationships that Aena Documentation Center made with other institutions or companies. In this regard it is noteworthy the collaboration with: Documentation centers of other institutions of the State General Administration (for example the Ministry of Public Works). Ministry of Culture, through the General Library Committee of the State General Administration (BAGE), aimed implementing a single catalog of all libraries. University libraries, there is even an Interlibrary Loan Agreement with the library of the School of Aeronautical Engineering of the UPM. Documentation Centres of different airlines (for example Iberia) and companies (for example Ineco). Biannual Congress of the Spanish Federation of Archivists, Librarians and Documentalist Societies. Key issues: With the ultimate goal of promoting knowledge management in Aena, during 2010 we continued the following tasks: Support and Document Management advice to other departments of Aena (specifically, the application Inmagic has been implemented in the Master Plans Division to manage its databases, and is working on the implementation of other application in the Division of Coordination Directorate of Infrastructure). Constant updating and revision of the thesaurus (over 6000 terms). Collaboration with various documentation centers. Key issue: At the initiative of the Aena Documentation Center staff it has been created a Management Database of Specialized Questions to share the information received at the Center on those requests that, for one reason or another, have required more research work. 142
