1 3rd Experimental Audiovisual Design Festival Valdivia 2014/Santo Tomas Design Area Introduction The goal of Santo Tomas Design Area is to enhance The 3rd Experimental Audiovisual Design Festival Valdivia, 2014 as a space for expression and knowledge on aesthetic research related to new technology applied to design and moving image work. The audiovisual design field is linked to the contemporary media. For this reason it is presented in our everyday life. It was born around the emerging of cinema. This fact can be seen at the beginnings of assembly exercises or double exposure, and artifice such as the rotoscoping. It became a job related to visuality and sound, which has its most experimental vain in both video- arts and electronic investigation in the sixties. This way it led electronic effects and its subsequent changing from plastic medium into digital work. Following the irruption of digital technology, these resources that were usually assumed as post production work depending on audiovisual area were grater than before. As a result, it was validated as a disciplinary expression which is ongoing due to the variety of formats and means involved. Here the only distinction is the existence of two categories related to the audiovisual designer job: the experimental, personal and aesthetic research author s production about softwares and the client s required production. Although the last category shows variety, it tends to use a persuasive tone that targets a specific audience, such as advertising. However, both categories work in a field of exploration which is semantically rich.

2 Our Vision: To generate a place of meeting and development of new innovative communication trends related to audiovisual experimental design, and thus contribute to the positioning of the region as an audiovisual cultural design district Our Mission: To provide a new arear for exhibitions to stimulate and show visual alternative trend, and thus contribute to the audiovisual training and Santo Tomas community linking in the region of Los Ríos. General Objective: To create an event of exploration and training for the community, so that it can be useful to bring new experiences in terms of design, process and creative production through the use of audiovisual tools for the visual community. Specific Objectives 1.- To carry out the 3rd Version of the festival, open for the community and students of Santo Thomas at local, national and international level. 2.- To open a space for participation and competition for audiovisual works. 3.- To encourage exploration and knowledge of contemporary filmmakers new works. Moreover, inspire the viewer to participate as an observer or producer in the local, national and international level. 4.- To create a learning channel through lectures and exhibitions that allow the new experiences dissemination in the design and visual communication.

3 CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION 1. - VENUE AND DATES The Festival will be held in the city of Valdivia, the region of Los Ríos in Tent CECs Science, from 5, 6 and 7 November THE CALL FOR PROPOSALS Call to participate in competition based on three categories called "SANTO TOMÁS NATIONAL DESIGN STUDENTS", "A WINDOW OF TALENTED YOUNG PEOPLE for High School students in the Region of The Rivers and "FILMMAKERS FROM THE RIVERS for filmmakers from the Region of The Rivers. 2.2 Call to National Institutions of Higher Education to participate in a sample Call to International Institutions of Higher Education to participate in a sample. 3.- GÉNEROS DE COMPETENCIA Diseño Audiovisual Conceptual Experimental Diseño Audiovisual Animación Experimental. 3.- GENRES OF COMPETITION Experimental Audiovisual Conceptual Design Experimental Audiovisual Animation Design. 4.- DELIVERY FILE FORMATS File.MOV,.MP4 o.avi 5.- GENERAL CONDITIONS: All post- production completed works from September 2012 onwards, may participate in the process Maximum duration for work is 15 minutes, including credits. The work must be an original version in Spanish or subtitled. The topic of each work is free. The audiovisual material must be unpublished and registered in one of the designated categories and types. Each participant may submit up to 2 works.

4 6.- GENERAL PARTICIPATION RULES: a. - The works received for competition in the various genres and categories, will be subjected to a pre selection process by a committee defined by the organization. b.- Santo Tomas reserves the right to select and exhibit all received works, as well as any work in competition or display material. The work suits the format of 1080p projection. c. - All filmmakers must send a copy File MOV, or AVI.MP4. d. - The author or representative must complete the application form that is available on the website. It should also include a data sheet: synopsis, art director, two photographs of the work, and director s contact information. e. - The delivery of competition material should be available in a box or case, whose cover must show the following information: Category in which participates, title of work, director s contact information. f.- El material enviado no será devuelto y pasará a formar parte del patrimonio del Festival, para el uso de actividades culturales sin fines de lucro. g.- El Área Diseño Santo Tomás, se reserva el derecho de usar parcial o totalmente las obras con el objetivo de difundir el Festival, en actividades y eventos sin fines de lucro a nivel local, nacional e internacional. h.- La decisión del jurado es inapelable. i.- El festival no se hace responsable de las posibles infracciones en materia de derechos de autor en que puedan incurrir los trabajos recibidos, siendo éstas siempre responsabilidad de su autor(es), director(es) y /o productor(es). j.- Los realizadores clasificados en la selección oficial, aceptan que sus obras según competencia, se exhiban en las diferentes salas que tiene el Festival y en actividades y eventos sin fines de lucro que organice, patrocine o auspicie el Área Diseño Santo Tomás. f. - The submitted material will not be returned and will become part of the heritage of the Festival in order to use them in nonprofit cultural activities. g. - The Santo Tomas Design Area reserves the right to use part or all of the works in order to disseminate the Festival, in local, national and international nonprofit activities. h. - The Commission s decision is final.

5 i. - The festival is not responsible for any infringements of copyright incurred by received works. The author, director or producer must assume full responsibility. j. - The ranked filmmakers agree that their works as competition are displayed in different rooms of The Festival, also in nonprofit activities and events that were organized or sponsored by Santo Tomas. 8.- THE JURY It will consist of professionals from the design field, audiovisual, arts and communications media. The person who is directly connected with the competing work will be out from the committee. There will be three official members of the jury for all categories. The official selection will be announced within two weeks TRANSFER OF COPIES: Shipping costs of the works, both for the pre- selection and the official competition will be responsibility of the participant COPIES INSURANCE: The event is not responsible for damage or loss occurred during the transfer of copies.
