3 A message from our District President We were fortunate to have Dr. Gokoo, Chief Medical Officer at American Medical Technologies spoke to us last month on the topic of Pharmacogenomics, the New Standard of Care in Medication Management; very interesting information shared in an effort to decrease the number of unnecessary drug use in our population. Thanks as always to our wonderful sponsors who create the opportunity for education and networking with peers. Thanks to our new members, Lake Bennett Health Care, managed by Ross Baird, NHA and Family Heritage, Bryan Fisher, State Director. We appreciate you joining our team of professionals and encourage continued participation in the organization. Each FHCA, District II member is encouraged to recruit at least 1 new member prior to the annual conference...we can do it!! Again, and on behalf of the Board of Directors, we thank you for your continued support of FHCA, District II. Hope to see you at the April meeting. We have exciting information to share through our guest speakers. Also, I want to be sure to thank our District 2 V.P., Eric Mock for stepping up and attending (on my behalf) Legislative Days in Tallahassee a few weeks ago. Thank you Eric. Everyone, please be sure to read his comments below as he has provided us with some exciting legislative updates.. Sincerely, Eloise Abrahams, RN, NHA President FHCA, District II A message from our District Vice-President and Legislative Committee Member During our last District meeting, I attended the first of several Legislative Days in Tallahassee. As part of the past Florida Leadership and part of the state wide legislative committee, I was able to see first-hand our association and committed members efforts to shape our business. There are several items on the agenda this year to carry forward the excellent steps achieved during last year s legislative session. Reimbursement is always at the forefront of our business and this year is no exception. CMS has let Florida know that the LIP program will no longer be funded. This is a $2B loss that the Governor had put into his budget. The Legislature will be debating options and FHCA will keep us up to date. I ve mentioned before the positive experience you ll find when going to Tallahassee. Introducing yourself to those who will vote on your future is always educational and enlightening. After many years of going to Tallahassee, it is enjoyable meeting legislative staff that remember you from prior years and meeting new Legislators that were recently elected. This is about relationship building and now is the best time to start. As always, if you have questions, please reach out to FHCA and they will be happy to assist you. I want to thank all of our members for your continued support of FHCA District 2 Sincerely, Eric Mock, NHA
