Areia Branca Santos Santos Distance from basin centroid to closest location 138 NM Santos 67 NM Vitória 135 NM Campos Espírito Santo
17 FUTURE OUTLOOK New frontiers Land logistics in the Equatorial Margin Navigation Land logistics Distance to main suppliers Macapá: ~3,600 km Belém: ~3,150 km São Luís: ~2,900 km Pecém/Fortaleza: ~2,600 km Macapá Belém São Luís Pecém Fortaleza Land logistics - Multiclient freight consolidation and optimization; - Possibility of creating distribution centers in the region. - Safety issues may be an important concern due to the road risks. Navigation Main suppliers (Rio/Macaé) BR-153 BR-407 BR Possibility of using shared supply base (regional clusters); - Shared management and supply of vessels (vessel sharing / pool); - Rig Clubs. 17
18 FUTURE OUTLOOK New frontiers Other challenges in the Equatorial Margin Environmental questions - Located in the Legal Amazon: compulsory maintenance of 80% of the native vegetation. Restriction of backyard availability; - Possible need of establishing a more complex emergency response infrastructure (ecosystems); - Local market lack of certified waste destinators; - Little experience of local institutions with O&G offshore industry; - Large area being impacted (big distances to the offshore blocks) gas emission by the maritime transport and oil spill risks. Seasonality - Agriculture: potential of Belém region for exportation of agricultural loads (forecasting of port investments and access roads crossing the agricultural frontier); - Mining: Considerable amount of private terminals belonging to mining/steel companies (Anglo Ferrous, Vale, Alumar). Especially in Macapa and São Luís. - Development of local workforce standards in training / experience of O &G; - Local suppliers chain; Other challenges - Difficulty for offshore aviation: need of aircraft charter for long distances, few areas for landing and takeoff; - Variation of tides and currents, making navigation more difficult; - Non-technical risks management. Sources: Energia Hoje (392, 07/2013), internal studies and Ministério do Meio Ambiente. 18
19 CONCLUSIONS The logistics supply base plays a key role in the Oil & Gas value chain. The more mature the industry gets, the higher is the demand for specialized logistics services. Thus, the supply base needs to be focused in the O&G industry. There is a developed infrastructure in Southeast of Brazil, but the growing demand is pulling many other projects. There is good perspective and also big challenges for the logistics development in other regions: Equatorial Margin and South of Brazil. 19
