2 Candidate s Story (& life outside of work) Imelda began her journey into administration and finance when she was approached by a doctor in need of administration assistance for his practice. She determined that the work experience to be gained was vital. From here, Imelda developed an interest in the work quickly as she discovered her meticulous nature was ideal for the role. Imelda steadily began working more and more with financial administration such as patient accounts, processing payments and confering with medical aids. After a five year period, Imelda made the transition to Debtor s Supervisor where she managed credit controllers, debtors clerks and data capturers. In this position, she began interacting with financial staff at a variety of levels, including lawyers and Financial Managers. Imelda then made the transition into her current career Credit Controller. Her first role, at Shoprite Checkers Head Office is where she hit her stride. Imelda reconciled approximately 1000 accounts with a value of ten million, she also reconciled inter-company retail accounts. She continuously worked alongside Financial Managers strategising how to improve any possible bad debt. Imelda then continued her career as a Credit Controller in a number of contractual roles at various companies, including Sasol Oil, ABE Construction Chemicals and Wine of The Month Club. In these roles, her responsibilities grew Imelda handled 150 customers (petrol stations) to the value of a hundred and fifty million for Sasol and had a book value of three million at ABE Chemicals. Her most recent position turned out to be her toughest. During her time at Reichmans Capital (Investec) Imelda had a portfolio of six clients for whom she reconciled accounts, checked debtors and approved appropriate applicants. She consistently reported to all her clients and ensured their needs were met timeously. Her contract with Reichmans Capital ended on 30th April Currently, Imelda is looking to find a permanent position with stability, ideally she would like to work in an organisation with a less corporate environment with a culture of helping and guiding one another. Employment Period September November 2013 Position Retail Chainstore Credit Controller Duties Imelda managed the collection of money on Pick n Pay and Spar National Accounts, valued at R14 million. She was responsible for the allocation of the chainstores payments and the reconciliation of accounts.
