4 : Power Generation System PCS 7 Visualization G G G G The PGS (Power Generation System) controls and regulates power generation within independent electrical networks. It maintains a supply, as interruption free as possible in all operational states, of sufficient electrical power to the consumer. Protection for the network and the power generating aggregates is an integral component of the PGS. PGS is a component of the Complete Integrated Solution (CIS) line of products. It therefore contains not only power generation control and regulation, but also the complete visualization suite for power generation. Integration into CIS also meshes the product into other product cores. PGS can also be utilized as a standalone system. The system can be scaled to meet redundancy and visualization requirements. 5 : Waste heat recovery control Nowadays, most ship propulsion systems use slow turning high power diesel engines. The efficiency of such engines can be up to 50 55%. This means, that on standard ships, a big share of the energy contained in the used fuel is wasted. Most of the wasted energy is contained in the exhaust gas of the ship's main engine. The purpose of a WHR system is to make economic use of this large amount of energy instead of wasting it. A WHR system will convert a significant share of the available exhaust gas energy (physical mass flow energy and thermal energy) to electrical power. This is achieved using a combined exhaust gas and steam Turbine generator set. The resulting electric power is then fed into the vessel s electrical power supply system. If surplus power is available, its will be used for the Shaft Motor. If more power than produced by the TG is needed, its will be in first instance generated by the Shaft Generator, in second instance by Diesel Generators. The Waste Heat Recovery Control provides suitable automatic control functions for WHR systems. Seite 5

8 EcoMain Nowadays, the complexity of on-board systems are increasing more and more. The technical staff on-board of a vessel has to work on a wide range of technical tasks. Finding a failure in a complex system is often very difficult and requires a deep knowledge about the used technology. The technical staff on-board of a vessel has to work with much more than one system. The technical staff on-board of a vessel is changing frequently. Increasing the efficiency/performance of a vessel today is a must (refer to laws & regulations) but still not an easy task for the crew.? The expert of each system cannot sail on each vessel. Seite 8
