2 Career History: Western Seaboard Staff Surveyor: Oct 2008 to May 2011 BMT Marine & Offshore Surveys Ltd, Incorporating The Salvage Association. Career Précis Senior Maritime Surveyor, Auditor, Port Engineer and Chief Engineer with over thirty-five years experience in the maritime industry. Salvage Assn. Surveyor (2008 to date), Port Engineer (2005 to 2008), Classification Surveyor (1990 to end 2005), Auditor (1993 to end 2005), ISO 9000 Lead Auditor (1996 to end 2005), Chief Engineer-Ocean going (1976 to 1990), Trials & Design Engineer (1982 to 1985) and Ships Engineer (1971 to 1976). This experience covers steam and diesel ships, on-board engineering on General Cargo, Passenger, RO-RO, Container, Reefer, Tanker and Bulk Carrier vessels and their many varied types of plant and equipment. I have worked internationally throughout my career performing many varied surveys and audits at different, sometimes remote, locations in Europe, Japan, China, Russia, Nigeria and the United States. Sample of Career Experience San Francisco bay area: I have performed duties as Port Engineer for various types of vessel, including working with government vessels for their day to day operational and maintenance needs, performing dry-dockings special survey completion etc. Los Angeles Area: I have performed many unusual and varied surveys and audits, eg a follow up audit on a company with quality problems, the change of management and thus both ISM and security audits of several, of a major ship owners, vessels in limited time. China: surveyor: During my 3 year period in China many challenging damage and repair projects were performed (many at remote and difficult locations) including major bottom damage repairs to a cape size bulk carrier, after a grounding, several major rebuilds during special surveys, up to number 5, mainly on bulk carriers. I was responsible for the various aspects of both classification and statutory surveys and reporting on various classes of vessels and oil rigs, including auditing ISM, ISPS and ISO9000. Lagos, Nigeria: Ltd, Country Manager; Overcoming the many daily challenges with running the day to day operations of a Nigerian company bearing in mind the local systems, people, regulations etc. This included Management of the West Africa Page 2 of 5

3 region, an office with eight surveyors and four support staff, with a $7 figure income. I was responsible for the various aspects of both classification and statutory surveys and reporting on various classes of vessels and rigs, including auditing ISM and ISO9000. Russia: When located in Astrakhan (Russia) and Kazakhstan, I was involved in the challenging major upgrade and conversion of an old Nigerian swamp barge drilling unit into one of the world s most sophisticated submersible rigs which is currently drilling in the Caspian Sea. The job involved joining together 3 hull sections (whilst afloat) stripping, overhauling and upgrading of all the equipment and systems. New Orleans: involved many interesting and varied projects, special surveys, repairs and re-build of some lash barges, new construction of some 20 navy patrol boats, crew boats, barges, tugs etc. In plant surveys of vessel automation systems and auditing of various marine related plants. Surveys of many oil rigs, all types, and offshore structures as well as very many varied class and statutory surveys of all types of ships. So many varied and different other class surveys including collisions, groundings, major upgrades and modifications. Career History: Maersk Line Limited, Norfolk, VA 2008 Vessel Manager (contract): Responsible for the Budget, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Special projects, condition survey / assessments, Class and regulatory compliance MARAD and MSC vessels Ocean Duchess Inc, Houston, TX 2006 to 2008 Port Engineer (contract): Responsible for the Budget, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Class and regulatory compliance of one MARAD reserve fleet vessel. Pacific Gulf Marine, New Orleans, LA 2006 Assistant Port Engineer (contract): Responsible for the engineering and maintenance and regulatory compliance of three MARAD reserve fleet vessels. Starlight Marine Services, Alameda, CA 2005 to 2006 Port Engineer & Compliance Manager: Responsible for the engineering and maintenance and regulatory compliance of five tugboats and one oil barge. LA included various in plant surveys and audits, including pressure vessels, offshore and industrial components. China needed bulk carrier special surveys and major repairs, thus conducting all the renewal surveys for both class and statutory, surveyed both a jack-up and semi-submersible rigs (Shanghai offshore petroleum) located throughout many remote locations in China. USSR also required reporting on two specific oil rigs during major upgrading and modifications and the main project was the major modifications and upgrade of an existing drill barge to an ice class submersible rig with all the latest of equipment and technology. Principal Surveyor: Lagos, Nigeria; Country Manager covering all aspects of running the day to day operations of Ltd.(Nigerian registered subsidiary of the American Bureau of Shipping). Responsibilities included management of the West Africa regional office with eight surveyors and four support staff and the generation of $3 million in income from various aspects of both classification and statutory surveys and reporting on various classes of vessels and rigs, including auditing ISM and ISO9000. Swan Hunter Shipbuilders, Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK Trials/Design Engineer (Engineering design office): Performed various aspects of ship machinery design, including selection of main propulsion and shafting, shaft alignment, design of machinery aspects of a passenger ship conversation; writing 2 machinery operation manuals, organize aspects of sea trials, gather trials data, including noise and vibration information, and produce the final sea trials report. Cunard Lines, London, UK Second Engineer (sea going): Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of a large steam powered container ship and additional engineer aboard a reefer vessel for motor endorsement time. Sea Malta, Valletta, Malta 1976 Truckline Ferries, Poole, UK engineering operations aboard two RO-RO ferries and general cargo vessels, with medium speed diesel B&W Alpha engines. Responsibilities included stemming fuels, oils, ordering spare parts and consumables, organizing and performing planned maintenance, repairs, survey s, monitoring performance and producing voyage reports.
