1. Open power point How to create a poster using PowerPoint 2. Click on new, if this page (Image 1) does not come up to begin with. You may also need to select blank presentation if this does not appear. IMAGE 1: first page when opening power point. 3. Select the blank slide template, when creating a poster (image 2) IMAGE 2: 1
4. Decide whether you want your poster to be landscape or portrait. In file menu, select page set up (Image 3). Then select size required i.e. A3 Paper (image 4). IMAGE 3: page set up IMAGE 4: 5. Select the background colour from the format menu (image 5) IMAGE 5: 2
6. Choose the background colour and click on apply (Image 6). If your choice of colour does not appear, click on more colours, to get a wider range to choose from. IMAGE 6: If you wanted to make your poster two tone etc, click on fill effects (image 6) to choose a range of options (Image 7). Try the options & decide which you prefer & ensure that it does not detract from the content of the poster. The poster needs to be visually appealing, but must also be easy to read and get a message across to the audience. IMAGE 7:. 3
7. You can then begin to insert text boxes as required, to write your poster. Click on the insert text button (Image 8 a), then move the cursor to achieve a box. Begin typing within the box. You may want to change the font size (image 8c), font style (b), colour of the font (e), or use bold, italics etc (image8d) b c d e IMAGE 8: a 4
8. If you wanted to add text boxes and have them a different colour you can do this by using the fill colour box and selecting the colour required, from the drop down menu (image 9 a). IMAGE 9: If you want to place a border around the text box, double click on the edge of the text box & you will get the menu up (image 10). Select the colour required, style of line and thickness etc. a 9. To inset a picture you can do this by cutting and pasting from a web picture or inserting a picture from a file, by clicking on insert & selecting from file, then browsing your folders to locate the required picture (image 9). Resize the picture as required. You can also add a box around images using the same method as above (image 10) 5
IMAGE 10: 10. Items/text boxes etc can be moved around the poster by dragging, using the cursor, and dropping where you want them. Changes to font can be made by highlighting the text & making the changes required (images 11a and 11b). 6
IMAGE 11a: IMAGE 11b: Zoom 7
You can still make changes, until you are happy with your poster, then remember to save. 11. To view the poster click on zoom (arrow on image 11b) & change the scale to see the whole poster. TIPS: Make sure the poster is easy to read. If the font size is too small or if the colours are similar, it will be hard to read. Remember there are 15 marks towards presentation. Ensure there is a logical flow to the poster Use subheadings Don t forget to reference any supporting material Critical evaluation, as always, will ensure the work is at M-level. Ensure you follow the assessment criteria. It is not necessary to go into great detail about how the technology works, the emphasis is on the clinical application, advantages/disadvantages over standard ultrasound or other therapeutic tests & safety. REMEMBER to save changes regularly Save as Powerpoint (compatible with staff PCs) 8
