7 DOOR OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS TO OPEN THE DOOR 1 Relieve the tension on the curtain by jogging the DOWN button. Release and disengage the holddown devices before attempting to raise the door. The hold-downs may be left in position but tilted back and disengaged as long as they do not interfere with the movement of the aircraft. If equipped with inside door seals, open and lock them in the open position. 2 Push the UP button to raise the door. It is only necessary to raise the door to a sufficient height to allow the aircraft or equipment to pass beneath the lower curtain roll. Many operators mark the door jamb with code markings for particular aircraft clearance points. Raising the door only to these markings will save time and conserve hangar heat. 3 Stop the door travel by releasing the button. Para-Port Doors are equipped with safety switches that limits the upward travel of the curtain. These safety switches should not be used as part of the normal operating procedure. TO CLOSE THE DOOR 1 Make sure the hold-downs are in the open position and the side seals are fully open. 2 Push the DOWN button to lower the door. Caution: Do not allow the curtain to bump the floor. Stop it before it hits the floor and then jog the door the last few inches to the fully closed position. 3 Engage the hold-downs into the locked position. 4 Jog the UP button (inching only) to carefully tighten the curtain. Caution: Do not over tighten the curtain as this will put an undue strain on the curtain and mechanism. If your door is equipped with inside door seals; unlock the seals and latch them in the closed position. NOTE: FOR YOUR SAFETY 1 Do not operate the door in winds exceeding 35 MPH. 2 Before closing the door, visually check to see that the door opening is clear. 3 Excessive jogging of the curtain during opening or closing is harmful to the motor and curtain. This should be avoided as much as possible. 4 Failure to follow these operating instructions voids the door warranty
8 EMERGENCY HAND CRANK 1 An emergency hand crank is furnished for each drive unit. 2 Before attempting to engage and use the emergency hand crank, make sure that all electrical power to the door is disconnected. 3 On the Model A1M door, connect the emergency hand crank onto the shaft of the gearbox through the hole in the chain guard to raise or lower the door. 4 On the Model A1E door, connect the emergency hand crank onto the shaft of the motor to raise and lower the door. 5 On Models A2B, B1, B2, C1, C2, D1, and D2 connect the emergency hand crank onto the shaft of the motor. NOTE: Hold the crank securely and at the same time, release the brake by moving the manual brake release lever to the OFF POSITION. You can now raise or lower the door. 6 On doors equipped with jack shafts for the emergency manual operation, it will be necessary to connect the roller chain from the jack shaft sprocket to the sprocket on the motor shaft at the coupling. The chain must be removed before operating the door with electric power. Engage the emergency hand crank on the jack shaft and move the manual brake release lever to the OFF POSITION. 9 LUBRICATION, MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION LUBRICATION 1 The roller chains on the drive units should be periodically lubricated with a roller chain lubricant. 2 For motor lubrication, refer to motor manufacturer s recommendations. See the tag attached to the motors. 3 The oil in all gearboxes should be changed once a year, and in severe operating conditions, more frequently. Use Para-Port Door Part No oil or Mobil #SHC 634. While the oil is drained from the larger gearbox, remove the inspection plate opposite the final output shaft and inspect the gears for cracks, missing teeth and excessive wear. 4 The cam roller bearings that ride on the guide rails and the main shaft support bearings that are at the ends of tube, should be greased at least every six (6) months. 5 The pulleys on the counterweight system, the hinges and toggles on the inside door seals, and the pins and rollers in the portable hold-downs and outside bump rolls, should be lubricated periodically. 6 On the doors using counterweights; the counterweight cables should be greased with a light coating at least every six (6) months. MAINTENANCE 1 It is recommended that after the door has been in use for a short time, that all nuts and bolts, retainer clips, set screws, etc., be checked and tightened if necessary. 2 The drive chains on the carriage should be properly adjusted at all times. 3 Adjustments on hold-downs should be checked frequently to assure that the tube is held to the rubber sill as tight as possible. 4 The curtain material can be kept clean by using water and a mild detergent along with a soft brush or sponge. 5 All minor cuts and punctures in the curtain material should be patched immediately with Patch Kit No that was furnished with the door. 6 If cuts or punctures exceed two feet horizontally, consult the factory
10 PERIODIC INSPECTION It is recommended that a yearly inspection program be set up with your maintenance crew for the inspection of your door and its components. After any unusual conditions that the door is exposed to, such as severe winds, storms, etc., a thorough inspection should be made before attempting to operate the door. Some of the major components are: 1 Drive Chains (Should be replaced every 5 years.) 2 Sprockets 3 Gearboxes - While the oil is drained from the larger gearbox, remove the inspection plate opposite the final output shaft and inspect the gears for cracks, missing teeth and excessive wear. 4 Keys on Shafts 5 Cam Rollers 6 Motor Couplings 7 Brakes on Motors 8 Counterweight Cables 9 Counterweight Pulleys and Brackets 10 Curtain (Check for deterioration.) 11 Tube 12 Guide Rails 13 Other Structural Components Caution When any signs of wear or distortion on any of the components appear, it is recommended that they be replaced immediately. 11 PARA-PORT DOOR INSPECTION SHEET DOOR LOCATION: 1 Inspect counterweight pulleys for freedom of movement, wear & overall condition. Replace if necessary. 2 Inspect counterweight cable for kinks & possible fraying. Also check that the U-bolt clips are tight Replace if necessary. 3 Inspect cam followers for freedom of movement, wear & overall condition. Lubricate or replace if necessary. 4 Drain the oil from the larger output gearbox and remove the inspection plate opposite the output shaft and inspect the gears for cracks, missing teeth and excessive wear. Refill the gearbox to full level using Para-Port Door Part No oil or MOBIL SHC 634 gear oil as needed. 5 Inspect gearbox sprocket & shaft for wear & overall condition. Check the keyway & set screw. 6 Inspect the sprocket on the main roller for wear & overall condition. Check that the bolts holding the sprocket to the roller are secure. Check that the collar on the main roller shaft is secure. 7 Inspect the main roller bearings every five years. Replace if necessary. 8 Inspect the drive chain for wear, overall condition, alignment & proper deflection. Lubricate the chain. NOTE: THE CHAIN SHOULD BE REPLACED EVERY FIVE YEARS. 9 Inspect the electric motor & brake. Adjust the brake if necessary. AMP draw should be checked & noted. Lubricate bearings if required. 10 Inspect Lovejoy coupling & spider for wear & overall condition. Replace if necessary. 11 Inspect the power cord & cord grips for wear & overall condition. Replace if necessary

Replace if necessary. 13 Inspect the door controls & motor starter. Check that there are spare fuses and thermal overloads. 14 Inspect the side rails for wear & overall condition. Check the mounting. Lubricate if necessary. 15 Inspect the side seals on the door. Check the rubber seal for wear. Lubricate if necessary. 16 Check that the hold-downs are in place & working properly. 17 Inspect the rubber bottom sill for wear & overall condition. Replace if necessary. 18 Inspect the curtain & debris apron for rips, fraying & overall condition. Make necessary repairs. 13 TROUBLE SHOOTING 1. Problem: THE DOOR DOES NOT OPERATE: Answer: Check that the inside door seals are completely open. Check all limit switches. Check the fuses and power supply. Check motor overload resets in the control box. Check all electrical connections. If after checking the above, the door still doesn t operate, check the brake release. system to see that the brake is operating. 2. Problem: THE MOTOR HAS POWER BUT THE DOOR WILL NOT RAISE Answer: 3. Problem: CHAIN NOISE Answer: The line voltage drop may be too great for the current demand. The controls or motor may be wired incorrectly. Check to make sure that the limit switches are functioning. Align the sprockets or adjust the chain tension, also check the position of the chain guard for interference. 4. Problem: THE SHAFT COUPLING ON THE MOTOR IS NOISY Answer: 5. Problem: DOOR COASTING Answer: Check the alignment of the motor and the gearbox shaft. Check the position of the coupling on the shafts and tighten the set screws. Check the condition of the rubber spider in the coupling for wear. On A Model doors equipped with a brake on the gearbox sprocket, adjust the brake per the instructions furnished with the door. On A Model doors without the above brakes, contact the factory. On Models A2B, B1, B2, C1, C2, D1 and D2 doors, check the disc brake in the motor brake housing. 6. Problem: WRINKLES IN THE CURTAIN Answer: Minor wrinkles may initially occur when the curtain is installed due to the curtain coming fresh out of the shipping container or from the curtain being hung when the weather was too cold These wrinkles will generally disappear with use. If not, the curtain may have to be re-hung during warmer weather. Wrinkles in the curtain may also be caused by misalignment or improper tension on the curtain. This may have occurred during the installation of the J-Section or the tube. If this is the situation, check the J-Section to make sure that it is level and that it has uniform alignment from section to section, across the header. Then the curtain should be repositioned and smoothed out as necessary. Slight wrinkles may occur behind the jambs, where the standard rubber side seals or the optional inside door seals, contact the curtain. This is normal and these wrinkles will not affect the operation of the curtain or the door
14 TROUBLE SHOOTING (Cont.) 7. Problem: ICE ON THE INSIDE OF THE CURTAIN. Answer: During cold weather, in some hangars with un-vented heaters, there might be a tendency for condensation to run down the interior face of the curtain and be trapped between the curtain and the roll. 1 This condensation may freeze. Do not operate the curtain with this frozen condensation trapped between the curtain and the roll. 2 If freezing occurs, use ethylene glycol or permanent anti-freeze to thaw the condensate. DO NOT USE ALCOHOL. On some applications, we have experienced the above conditions being caused by un-vented gas heaters in the hangar. Venting the heaters will normally control this problem. 8. Problem: THE CURTAIN MATERIAL IS CRACKING OR VINYL FLAKING OFF. Answer: 1 If the curtain has been contacted with a foreign substances such as paint thinner, tar, etc, depending on extent of damage, spray with Para-Port Door No or place a patch over the damaged area with Para-Port Door Curtain Repair Kit No , or replace the whole curtain. 2.
