4 Step By Step Recruiting a Winning Team! Week One: September 7 th -11 th USE YOUR NETWORK! Register your team online!! Use the website, Facebook, apps and to do the work for you. With summer vacation over and a little more than a month unitl the walk, you have the full attention of your co-workers or classmates. Put up posters and make announcements to build the excitement! Find some friends who can help. Get clubs, sports teams and your whole school involved. Involve people from different homerooms or sections who can talk up the walk. Schedule your school recruiter to come in and give your entire school or faculty a presentation Plan fun ways to get all of the school involved. Create competative ways to raise funds. Ask your School Recruiter for ideas! Week Two: September 14 th -18 th BUILD TEAM SPIRIT! Plan a late September rally to celebrate with your team and coordinate last minute details. Remember, word of mouth is an effective tool. Put up a poster announcing the rally and the Making Strides walk. Offer people the opportunity to volunteer instead of walk. Contact your School Recruiter to sign up for volunteer hours. Encourage them to ask one new person --classmate, family, or friend to join them on October 4 or October 18 4
5 Week Three: September 21 st 25 th ROUNDING THE BEND! Set aside a few minutes each day to call or meet with one or two people who have promised to walk. If it s too difficult to coordinate your school attending the walk, host your own walk. Get your principal and teachers to help organize an on campus walk and have everyone donate to participate. Call your School Recruitor to help with ideas. Put walk papers in central locations like the office, in busy hallways, the library, and in your homeroom. Week Four, Five and Six: September 28 th October 16 th (edit based on walk date) THE HOME STRETCH! Send last minute reminders. Review meeting details, especially the location of your meeting place, and remind all walkers to bring their pledge money with them on October 20. Pick a good meeting spot for your team. Call your American Cancer Society School Recruiter for help choosing a meeting area. Did your team raise enough for a FREE BANNER with your schools name on it? Make sure you check with your School Recruiter! The biggest fundraisers should be held in October since it is Breast Cancer Awareness month and your team has EVERYONE s attention. OCTOBER 4 th and October 18th ATTEND MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER! CONGRATULATIONS! YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE! OCTOBER [date] Send a press release with your photo to your school newspaper. Send out thank you s to your team members. Collect any contributions that were not handed in on October [date] and mail to: American Cancer Society, [address and attention to].
