1 SEPTEMBER THEMES Utility Survey This month, the Shared Savings team will be working on completing Utility Surveys for all common spaces and classrooms. The Utility Survey will help the Shared Savings team create a data-driven program for your school, focusing conservation efforts on the areas with greatest energy waste. Building a Team Recruitment efforts are underway! We only ask for a commitment time of 1 hour/month. If you are interested in joining the Shared Savings Team, contact your Champion,, at. All levels of sustainability-knowledge welcome! OCTOBER THEME Raise Awareness Have you noticed the new Shared Savings stickers and signs cropping up around your school? These are prompts were designed as passive behavioral change devices! Remember the three rules of energy conservation: 1. Turn if off, 2. Turn it down, 3. Unplug! Teachers, if you would like to integrate curriculum about energy into your lesson plans, contact your Shared Savings Champion. We have many pre-made resources available for you!

2 NOVEMBER THEME Heating Inefficient heat usage due to open doors and windows, blocked heating vents, and high thermostat settings can really rack up those energy bills. The Shared Savings Team has posted up signs around school reminding you to keep your doors shut, thermostats set to 68 degrees, and furnaces off. If you get cold, try bundling up! This is not t-shirt weather. DECEMBER THEME Holiday Shut Down A big school break is just around the corner! That means many electrical appliances will not be in use for quite some time. Take some time to review the checklist the Shared Savings Team has prepared to help you shut down and unplug devices in the classroom, in common areas, and around the school. Faculty and Staff, please check your mailboxes for an incoming Holiday Shut Down packet!

3 JANUARY THEME Raise Awareness II January s the mid-year point of the school year, so the Shared Savings Team is collecting feedback. Submit any concerns, recommendations for improvement, or success stories you ve noticed regarding the program on our website, sharethesavings.org! Teachers and staff, there will also be an opportunity to submit feedback about the Shared Savings program during this month s staff meeting. FEBRUARY THEME Plug Loads Did you know that energy is still being used if things are left plugged in, even if the device itself is off? You will be able to make noticeable energy savings by making it a habit to unplug idle devices, especially ones which are not frequently used. It might be helpful to plug all your electric devices onto a power strip, to make it easier to unplug multiple at once. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and will be used to improve our program in the future!

4 MARCH THEME Water For the Shared Savings Team, March is Water Month! Water is a precious and finite resource, and we need everyone s help to conserve its use. Report any leaky faucets to Buildings and Grounds by submitting a Shared Savings Work Order, and always shut off the tap all the way! If you need assistance, contact your Shared Savings Champion,, at. APRIL THEME Spring Break Shut Down Another school break is just around the corner! Sustainability Fair (Optional) In celebration of Earth Day, our school will be hosting a Sustainability Fair a day of fun and educational activities about energy conservation!

5 MAY THEME Summer Shut Down Congratulations on a successful year of energy savings! Summer break is here, so once again we will be implementing the Holiday Shut Down kit. Remember to bring all the energy saving tips you ve learned at school into the home, too you can save money on your utility bills by just adopting a few good habits. Have a wonderful break, and see you in the fall!
