The best way to gain support from your network is to ask! TIPS AND TRICKS FOR RIDERS to make your ride the best it can be Use your words We ve written sample messages but your own words can make a difference. Feel free to be creative and to speak about your own experiences your network will be inspired by your passion! Go old school and pick up the phone Call people who you know well (we ve written sample talking points try it once and you ll just how easy it is). Cast a wide net Send your communications broadly, you ll be surprised at who will come out and support you! Squeaky wheels get the grease Sometimes you have to ask people a few times before they get around to making a donation. Persistence pays. Let them match you! Check with your employer to find out if they have a matching gift program (it never hurts to ask!). Every day more and more companies have created these programs to support causes that are important to their employees. Is your birthday or another important milestone taking place this summer? Consider asking your friends to donate in your honor. Hold a jeans day day at your offices and ask colleagues to donate in order to participate. Hold a happy hour fundraiser ask your friends to join you and make a donation at the door. Many bars and restaurants offer drink specials and extended happy hours for these events. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: How will the funds I raise help PENCIL students? A: All dollars raised through your fundraising efforts will go to supporting PENCIL s programming to improve NYC public school and student performance and enhance workforce pathways. Q: How can I thank donors? A: Through Crowdrise you can easily generate customizable thank-you s after every donation that you receive. Q: Will donors get receipts for their donations for tax purposes? A: Yes, every donor will receive an acknowledgement of their donation. Q: What if one of my friends prefers to donate by check? A: You can add your friend s donation to your Crowdrise page manually using the Offline Donation Manager. To access this, click on Manage Team.
