GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS STPM/A Level with minimum 2 Full/Principal Passes in the OR UEC with minimum 5 Grade B in the OR relevant TARC/TAR UC Diploma To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the minimum entry requirements. Applicants are advised to refer to the Minimum Entry Requirements on page 12 before selecting their choice of programmes. The entry requirements must be taken from only ONE (1) examination sitting. Meeting the entry requirements, however, does not necessarily guarantee admission to the programme. Selection for admission to any programme/campus is at the sole discretion of Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR) University College. II. INFORMATION ON PROGRAMMES FACULTY OF APPLIED SCIENCES AND COMPUTING Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Analytical Chemistry This programme provides foundational knowledge and training in chemical analysis, which addresses the needs of the industry, and hence indirectly acting as one of the many latent forces in driving Malaysia in achieving vision As a science, analytical chemistry is an area that cannot be ignored in the current scientific scene, as areas such as bioscience or physical science make use of analytical chemistry to affirm hypothesis and derived theories. The programme equips students with technical knowledge of analytical chemistry. The students will also be made aware of international standards that bound them to the society and industry. They will have an opportunity to work with industry through their internship and to carry out a real-life research project on analytical chemsity. All such training will add value to their qualification and later to their employers. The Analytical Chemistry program prepares graduates to be on the cutting edge of discovering, developing safer pesticides, and safer drugs, new materials for humans, as well as resolving environmental issues such as involvement in environmental monitoring activities, thus, improving the quality of life. Analytical chemistry discipline is the study of the separation, identification, and quantification of the chemical components of natural and artificial materials. Qualitative analysis gives an indication of the identity of the chemical species in the sample and quantitative analysis determines the amount of one or more of these components. The separation of components is often performed prior to analysis. Analytical chemistry also focuses on improvements in experimental design, chemometrics, and the creation of new measurement tools to provide better chemical information. Analytical chemistry has applications in forensics, bioanalysis, clinical analysis, environmental analysis, and materials analysis. As a scientific field which has such great diversity in its application, graduates trained in this program will surely be in great demand in the chemical related industries. Graduates will be well trained in semiconductors, IC design, embedded systems and computing which are important knowledge/skills to support the E&E sectors. The curriculum of the programme has been designed to meet the demands of the ETP. Students are trained in analogue and digital electronics, application specific IC and field programmable array, IC Design to design integrated circuits from front end to back end using current professional tools. These knowledge and skills will be important for the setting up of fabless design firms under the ETP. To complement the microelectronics content of the programme, students are also trained in embedded systems design with emphasis on latest microcontrollers like ARM, real time operating systems, RTOS, latest and in-depth programming skills. These knowledge and skills will be sought after by design houses/companies in automation, robotics, identification and monitoring, test and measurement, solar, LED and consumer electronics. The curriculum includes the management and production aspects of multimedia, utilising updated industry standard multimedia design software. Graduates can work as multimedia designer, multimedia developer, web designer, instructional designer, animator, illustrator, graphic designer, motion designer and etc. They can also pursue a career in corporate and government require capable creative and multimedia technologist. Bachelor of Tourism Management (Honours) The tourism industry in Malaysia is one of the fastest growing industries with significant contributions to the national economy. As this sector grows, there will be a greater emphasis and commitment to expand and improve tourism products and services. This programme will involve students in the context of the travel-related business, such as marketing, foreign languages and convention and meeting management. Special emphasis is placed on the development of interpersonal, communication and critical thinking skills. Graduates would have developed a mature understanding of their field through lecture, class discussion, case studies, field trip as well as industrial attachment.
