4 Release Management Extensin Playbk Release Management CMS Extensin Overview The CrwnPeak CMS prvides rbust wrkflw and publishing cnfiguratin ptins, allwing cntent and CMS assets t be deplyed in any frmat, and t any destinatin. The native deplyment behavir in the CMS is applied at the asset level. This is dne by selecting a single asset, and applying a deply actin frm the Wrkflw menu n the selected asset. Currently this capability cannt be applied t multiple assets, and as such, there is n direct way f deplying multiple assets in the CMS. The nly native methd f ding s is by using the admin Rute functin which allws admins t change the wrkflw state f any asset, and by applying the change t ther assets using the Als Applies T capability. This dcument describes the Release Management CMS extensin which extends the native capabilities f the CrwnPeak CMS, allwing admins t define and create bundles f assets t be deplyed tgether in a batch prcess. 5 Release Management Extensin Playbk Cnfiguring Release Management The Release Management extensin can be cnfigured t supprt many business prcesses. Befre starting the cnfiguratin, it is beneficial t slidify the scpe f the cnfiguratin. Use this list t determine hw the custmer is ging t use Release Management in their instance. Des the custmer want t deply multiple assets simultaneusly? What criteria shuld be used fr bundling f assets in a release? Are assets gruped tgether based n their wrkflw state? Fr example, deply all Stage assets t Live. Are assets gruped tgether based n their flder? Fr example, deply all press releases lcated in the Press Releases flder. Are assets gruped tgether via manual selectin? Or a cmbinatin f the abve? Will releases require review and apprval prir t deplyment? Any ther business requirements that may impact the scpe and implementatin f the CMS Extensin? Once the Business Prcess is understd, cnfiguring Release Management is dne as fllws: Setup and Installatin Release Management, like ther CMS Extensins, is a cllectin f best practices, library methds, templates, mdels, assets with a dedicated Wrkflw cnfiguratin that tgether prvide the verall framewrk necessary t enable the management f Releases in the CMS. The framewrk is typically setup and installed by CrwnPeak Supprt and Expert Services. Once the necessary underlying framewrk is setup and cnfigured, the next step is cnfiguring Release Management fr each site requiring the capabilities. Release Management enjys its wn dedicated Release Wrkflw which determines the lifecycle f Releases. The fllwing is the default wrkflw cnfiguratin. Cnfiguring Release Management fr a Site Release Management is easily added t a site by simply placing the _Releases flder in the rt f the site. The _Releases flder cntains a cnfiguratin file, which prvides the fllwing cnfiguratin ptins: Supprted wrkflw states Wrkflw state relatinships: what state can be deplyed t what ther state(s)? Is individual file selectin supprted? Is file selectin by flder supprted? CrwnPeak Technlgy 5

6 Release Management Extensin Playbk Using Release Management Release Management adheres t CrwnPeak authring and cntent management best practices. Defining and creating a new Release is accmplished by using the Release mdel fund in the _Releases flder. Create a Release T create a release: 1. Select New > Release 2. Define the release by prviding a unique release name and descriptin. 3. Select the bundled assets; by Wrkflw state, by Flder, r by individual asset selectin. Submit Release fr Review Once the assets are added and the release is fully defined, the release can be Saved, and submitted fr review. Deply Release Based n the cnfiguratin, admins can be ntified t review the submitted release, and nce apprved, the release can then be deplyed. Release Details At anytime, a detailed reprt f selected assets can be viewed by simply Previewing the Release Asset. Ntes and Additinal Infrmatin Mre infrmatin can be fund in widgets Implementatin Guidelines In general, the default installatin f Release Management can be cmpleted in abut 4 hurs.
