Covering of the reception area, answering the telephone, photocopying, franking mail and general office duties. Hours 9am 4pm. To gain the knowledge and understanding of how an MDT works and the skills and knowledge within the team. Hours 9am-5pm. Students will be working in an integrated team with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Nursing Staff. Students will experience community healthcare working with a multi-disciplinary team, working in people s homes experiencing falls prevention, community rehabilitation and palliative care. Hours 8.30am-4.30pm. Covering of the reception area, answering the phone, photocopying, franking mail and general office duties. The Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service provides support to children who have speech, language and communication needs across the Nottingham City and County. Care is provided in the most appropriate setting for each child. Students may work in clinics, schools or homes with the team that is providing the placement and have the opportunity to observe assessment/ therapy/ clinical administrative duties (i.e. record keeping etc.). Students may need to travel to team bases in different areas of the City / County of Nottinghamshire. Placements will be restricted in the Bassetlaw colleges in Nottinghamshire Up to Applicants need to be interested in SLT as a career, either studying A levels or equivalent, unless a mature student with different qualifications. 1 2 days 1/ Mnth Administration/Secretarial Students will be working on a reception area located at one of our Primary Care Centre sites. They will be provided with the opportunity to help out with meeting arrangements and undertake other general administration duties (as appropriate) learning about the roles of the Administration/Secretarial teams which
3 support Bassetlaw Health Partnerships. Bassetlaw Hospice Adult Nursing The Hospice Team is comprised of highly skilled specialist nurses who provide holistic care to patients attending the Day Care Unit. Services are provided by skilled therapists and a team of Hospice volunteers support the team daily. Students will be able to observe the day to day functioning of the Day Hospice and observe the activities available for patients. The demand for placements in the Hospice Day Patient Unit is high and applications are welcome from those students who will be applying to University for a career in Nursing or other relevant degree. 16+ Restrictions apply to this placement and candidates will be assessed on an individual basis. All application forms will be vetted. 5 days 5/Yr There may be areas that are too sensitive where students will not be permitted and all visits are subject to patient consent. Business Management Students will be able to shadow certain aspects of the Business Manager s role and gain an insight into service development and transformation, contracting, implementation of divisional and national strategies, planning performance and quality monitoring and development and implementation of business plans. Children s Services The Health Visiting and School Nursing service provide universal health services to children and families within the home and within a variety of community settings including schools, children s centres and clinics. The healthy child programme is the core offer which is delivered to families from the antenatal period until the
4 child reaches the age of nineteen. Practitioners work with families to enable children to get the best start in life and to offer early intervention and support where need is identified. The demand for placements with the Children s Services is extremely high and applications will be closely vetted and limited to those students applying to University for Child Branch Nursing. Community Nursing Team Adult Nursing The Community Nursing Team is comprised of highly skilled specialist nurses, providing holistic care to the housebound population of Bassetlaw, including local residential homes. Services are provided by District Nurses, Community Staff Nurses and Health Care Support Workers, dependant on the level of patient need. Although not an exhaustive list, the Nursing Services provided include:- 1-5 days 7/Yr Palliative Care and support to patients and carers. End of Life Care Wound Care Pressure Ulcer Care Prevention and Management Assessment for Specialist Nursing Equipment Continence assessments Long Term Condition Reviews Diabetic Management Venepuncture Continuing Health Care Assessments Seasonal Vaccinations Nurse Prescribing There may be areas that are too sensitive where students will not be permitted and all visits are subject to patient consent. Learning and Development Students will gain experience undertaking clerical duties in a busy Learning and Development office located at 1-3 days 3/Yr

They will be provided with the opportunity to carry out general administration tasks (as appropriate) relating to L&D and learn about the role of Workforce, Learning and Development within Bassetlaw Health Partnerships. Out of Hours Medicine/Nursing Bassetlaw Hospital The Out of Hours Team supports adult patients presenting with a range of complex conditions Out of Hours. The service works closely with other multidisciplinary teams to promote faster recovery from illness and supports more timely intervention in managing and controlling symptoms Out of Hours. Students will be provided with the opportunity to observe autonomous practitioners working closely with a range of multi-disciplinary professionals within diverse practice areas. They will have the opportunity to support the patient along their journey and gain knowledge and an understanding of the different treatment pathways and appropriate interventions available and work towards achieving their placement learning outcomes. The demand for placements within this area is extremely high as we receive a considerable number of applications from students who are actively engaged in trying to gain experience to support their University applications for entry into Medicine and Nursing. Students application forms will be assessed on an individual basis. Podiatry A limited number of places will be available to observe the podiatrist undertake the following: Assessment and treatment of a range of foot care ailments Analysis of how a person walks and correction of the anatomical relationship between the different segments of the foot Management of foot problems and deformities caused 1 day 5/Yr
6 by diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis Advice and treatment of patients at high risk of foot problems and amputation e.g. those suffering from diabetes Decontamination process Students applications will need to reflect a podiatry pathway as places are extremely limited. Rapid Response The Rapid Response Team support adult patients presenting with a range of complex conditions and provide timely access to intervention and treatment services when needed. These encompass home visits, step up to residential or nursing homes and individualised plans of care aimed at enabling patients to stay in their own homes to improve quality and independence through enablement and support from specialist services. The demand for placements with the Rapid Response Teams is extremely high and applications will be closely vetted and limited to those students applying to University for Nursing, Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy. Rehabilitation and Integrated Services Adult Nursing Physiotherapy Occupational Therapy The Rehabilitation Teams work primarily with patients over the age of 50, although Pulmonary Rehab and the Long Term Neurological teams do see younger service users. All the teams are multi-disciplinary and consist of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Specialist Nurses, Dietician and Rehabilitation Support Workers. The team work jointly with the Psychologist (in the stroke team) and with social care and voluntary sector. During your work experience you will have the opportunity to spend time with the clinicians visiting patients in their own homes (subject to patient consent) to undertake holistic assessments and identify actions and interventions which could improve their condition. There may also be the opportunity to participate in Falls 1-5 days 6/Yr
7 Awareness and Prevention Training which the Falls team deliver to different staff groups. The demand for placements is extremely high and will be limited to those students who will be applying to University to study Nursing, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.
