1 Enabling Macros in Microsoft Word A Guide for More Add-in installation. The More Add-in installer uses macros written in Word s inbuilt programming language, VBA. To run the installer, Word must allow these macros to run. This means that you may have to tell Word to allow them to run. This document explains how to enable macros for this purpose in Word 2003, 2007, and By the way, More Add-in itself also uses macros. However it gets installed into a trusted location and so you should never need to bother with enabling macros to actually use the product. The document has four sections: In Brief Word 2003 Word 2007 Word 2010

2 In brief Word 2003: When opening the More Add-in Installer file, you should be presented with a security dialog. 1. Click the Enable Macros button, if there is one. Proceed with installation of More Add-in. 2. Otherwise, on the Tools menu, select Options 3. Click Macro Security 4. Select Medium 5. Open More Add-in Installer. Go to step 1 above. Word 2007: 1. When opening More Add-in installer, if there is a security warning underneath the ribbon, then click the Options button. Select Enable this content, then click OK. Proceed with installation of More Add-in. 2. Otherwise, open File menu and click on Word Options 3. Click Trust Center 4. Click Trust Center Settings 5. In Macro Settings Select Disable all macros with notification 6. Click OK. Now open or re-open Word and proceed from step 1. Word 2010: 1. When opening More Add-in installer, if there is a security warning, select Enable this content, then click OK. Proceed with installation of More Add-in. 2. Otherwise, open File menu and click on Word Options 3. Click Trust Center 4. Click Trust Center Settings 5. In Macro Settings Select Disable all macros with notification 6. Click OK. Now open or re-open Word and proceed from step 1.

3 Word 2003 First, the easy case: When you open the More Add-in Installer in Word 2003, you may see this warning: If so, then simply click the Enable Macros button. This will enable macros on this occasion only. You should now be able to proceed to install More Add-in. Now, the more involved case: You may instead see this warning: If so, follow these steps to relax Word s security settings just enough to allow you install More Addin:

4 1. In Word, click on the Tools menu and then select Options: 2. In the dialog box which appears, click on the Macro Security button

5 3. In the Security dialog box, ensure that Medium is selected. Then click OK. 4. Now open More Add-in Installer. When the dialog box below appears, click Enable Macros.

6 Word 2007 First, the easy case: When you open the More Add-in Installer in Word 2007, look carefully for a security warning immediately underneath the ribbon. If you see it 1. Click the Options button: 2. Click the Enable this content button, then click OK This will enable macros on this occasion only. You should now be able to proceed to install More Add-in.

7 Word 2007 cont. Now, the more involved case: You may find that: There is no security warning when you open More Add-in Installer; and More Add-in Installer doesn t work, i.e. nothing happens when you click the Click here to install More Add-in button. If so, you need to set Word s macro security settings to Disable all macros with notification 1. Open the File menu and click on the Word Options button:

8 2. In the Word Options dialog box, click Trust Center: 3. Click on Trust Center Settings

9 4. In the Trust Center, in Macro Settings ensure that Disable all macros with notification is selected: 5. Click OK. Now open (or re-open) the More Add-in Installer file. Proceed as per the easy case, above.

10 Word 2010 The process in Word 2010 is very similar to Word First, the easy case: When you open the More Add-in Installer in Word 2010, you may encounter a security notice: Click the Enable Macros button. This will enable macros on this occasion only. You should now be able to proceed to install More Add-in. Now, the more involved case: You may find that: There is no security warning when you open More Add-in Installer; and More Add-in Installer doesn t work, i.e. nothing happens when you click the Click here to install More Add-in button. If so, you need to set Word s macro security settings to Disable all macros with notification.
