2 PROGRAM OVERVIEW Who may attend Cub Scout Day Camps, and in this case the Western Plains Day Camp, are designed as a program for Cub Scouts and leaders. The only youth participants are Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts. Registered Boy Scouts and Venturers may attend as Den Chiefs, Den Aides, or Camp Staff. No unregistered siblings may attend the camp on June 1 thru June 3. All parents and registered adult leaders may attend but are expected to take an active role in leading the camp experience either as Walking Leaders or Camp Staff. All Scouts, registered adult leaders and PARENTS must have the required medical forms on file with the camp medical officer BEFORE the opening of camp activities on the days of June 1 thru June 3.. Schedule : Wednesday thru Friday The daily schedule is listed on the front cover of this packet. Daily program begins promptly at 1:00 PM., so plan to arrive early enough to walk to the program areas. Program will run until 5:30 PM. All participants should be out of camp by 5:45 PM Schedule: Saturday - Family Day - 3:00PM till about 8:30 or 9:00PM Saturday is family day. All of the family is invited for an afternoon of joining your Scout in the same activities he has experienced at Day Camp. An evening meal of hot dogs, chips, and drink will be provided. Donations to defray the meal cost will be accepted but are not required. Awards and skits will conclude the day. Activities Activities planned around the theme CUB SCOUT INVESTIGATORS. Each activity will be age-specific for Cub Scouts or Webelos Scouts, and may offer opportunities for rank advancement.. Remember the main goal is to just have fun in the great outdoors! Be sure the Cubs have all had a good lunch before coming to camp. Equipment Each youth and adult registered to attend Day Camp must have or wear the following: o Camp T-shirt (this is the official uniform and must be worn at all times) o Walking shoes and socks (no sandals, mesh, or open-toed shoes) o Hat with brim or bill (official Scout hats encouraged) o Optional items o Sunscreen o Insect repellant o Your choice of Long or short pants Remember, Any Cub or Adult attending camp June 1, 2, or 3 rd must have completed the appropriate registration form as well as sections A and B of the BSA medical form and turned these forms into your Day Camp Coordinator. In addition ALL adults attending those days must also provide and attach to their registration a copy showing current completion of the Youth Protection Plan as required by the BSA. 2

3 PARENT INFORMATION SHEET What do you need to do now? 1. Complete and print the proper Registration forms and Parts A and B of the Required Medical Form for each Cub and Adult attending any of the first three days of camp. 2. Deliver the forms and payment to your pack s Cub Scout Day Camp Coordinator Important- Share this information with your Scout, be sure he understands this information. Conduct. All Scouts are expected to comply with Western Plains Day Camp Rules (attached) Soda pop is not allowed in camp. Cold Water will be available at all stations throughout the day. Each Scout will be provided his own plastic drinking cup. Scouts are encouraged to drink lots of water to prevent dehydration. Proper protective footwear must be worn at all times. Proper footwear covers and protects the entire foot. Aqua socks and sandals are not acceptable. If your Scout comes to camp without proper footwear, he will be required to sit in the camp office until a parent brings proper shoes or takes him home. The shoe requirement also applies to adults. The camp uniform will consist of the official Day Camp T shirt, long or short pants, proper shoes, and a cap or broad brimmed hat. The hat is recommended for protection from the sun. No matches, No knives (even for Scouts who earned Whittling Chip). No swearing, obscene or abusive language/conduct. No throwing, except as part of an adult lead game. If a boy is to be released during the day to someone other than a parent, written permission and instruction must be presented to the Camp Director in advance. Your Pack should have a Day Camp Coordinator who can answer your questions. Daily Pack Walking Leader Requirements: Based on the number of cubs from your pack in camp that day 1 to 4 Cubs =1 Walking Leaders (adults) 5 to 8 Cubs = 2 Walking Leaders (adults) 9 to 12 Cubs = 3 Walking Leaders (adults) 11 to 15 Cubs = 4 Walking Leaders (adults) Exception: Each Tiger Cub (boys entering first grade fall of 2016) must be accompanied by his own Adult Partner. Den Chiefs and Den Aides do not count toward this ratio. Keep in mind that Cub and Webelos activities are separated. Walking Leaders or Camp Staff attending all four days will pay no fee and will receive a free T-shirt. All other Walking Leaders must purchase a T-shirt for their day(s) at camp. 3

4 Boy Scouts and Ventures may qualify to be Den Chiefs, Den Aides or Camp Staff. Any Boy Scout may serve as a Den Chief for the den he serves outside of camp. A Boy Scout or Venturer 14 or older may volunteer to serve on camp staff. All youth staff MUST be approved by the Camp Director before April 15 st.. All participants must register with the BSA. Walking Leader duties Responsibility for campers: All youth are the responsibility of the assigned Walking Leader. Ensure the boys follow the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. Ensure that all youth check in and out with a responsible adult. Campers must use the buddy system and adhere to camp rules. Scout spirit: The camp T-shirt is the official uniform for the camp, and all participants must wear it at all times for camp spirit as well as security reasons. Actively participate in all activities and ensure each boy has a quality camp experience. Cooperate with the staff to pep up the campers and enjoy the program! Information: The Walking Leaders are the communicators between the camp staff and the campers and parents. They will need to coordinate schedules, transportation, check-in, check-out and walking around camp. Set the example: Please, no tobacco use on Council property. Park in the designated lots. No personal firearms, fireworks, alcohol or controlled substances are allowed at the camp. If a problem occurs, contact a staff member to help. 1. HOW TO REGISTER YOUR PACK: 2. Complete and print the Registration form and Parts A and B of the Required Medical Form. 3. Parents deliver the forms and payment to your pack s Cub Scout Day Camp Coordinator. 4. Pack Day Camp Coordinator completes the Pack Summary Form and mails or delivers the Summary form and all the Pack Registration and Medical forms to the camp director with one Pack check attached in the correct sum. ALL CHECKS ARE TO BE MADE OUT TO LAST FRONTIER COUNCIL, BSA. 5. Registration/Medical forms and total camp fee if received by the Camp Director by May 10th is $55.00 per Cub. Your pack may register late but The fee if received after May 10th is $65.00 per Cub. 5 CAMPERSHIP REQUEST FORM DISTRICT DAY CAMP Scholarship funds are available for Cub Scouts that cannot afford to pay the total fee for camp. Requests must be made in writing and returned to the pack and then submitted by the pack to the scout center in OKC.. Please allow several weeks for response. Camperships limited to 50% of fee. Will accept applications until funds depleted. 6 Western Plains Day Camp Rules Cell phone use is restricted to adults. Cubs should leave cell phones at home. 1. The Buddy System will be utilized at all times. Camp staff will conduct frequent checks to be sure the Buddies are properly paired. No boy should find another buddy when their appointed buddy is not present. 2. No boy is allowed to leave without the permission of a Den Leader or without his buddy. No Leader or Staff Member is to take any boy or group of boys out of the designated area unless BSA Youth Protection and Guide to Safe Scouting Guidelines are followed. 3. No boy will leave camp during the day without permission of the Camp Director. The Camp Director will release the boy only to a person identified by the boy s parents in writing or in person. Please note a phone call from a parent is not sufficient to release the boy to another person. 4. Boys will remain with their Den Leaders at the end of the day until their ride from the camp arrives. 5. Boys will not be allowed to have or use knives except in certain activity areas. Adult supervision is required for the boy to use a knife. Knives brought to camp will be collected at the start of camp, turned in to the Camp Director, and returned at the end of the day to parents or Den Leader. 6. Boys are not to use or have matches or other flammable materials. Activity areas requiring the use of fire or flames will do so under the direct and constant supervision of an adult staff member. 7. Throwing of objects not associated with a camp activity is prohibited. 8. No swearing, abusive, or indecent language by any boy, Den Leader, or Staff Member. 9. Camp uniform is the official day camp t shirt, long or short pants, socks, closed toe shoes, and a cap or broadbrim hat. For activities, as required, a costume may be donned. The official Boy Scout Uniform is also acceptable for official and ceremonious activities. The official camp uniform will be worn by all adults and boys. 10. Attendance will be taken each day for campers, Den Leaders, and Staff members. Attendance reports will be turned into the Camp Director after the Opening Ceremony each day. 11. Den Leaders should remain with their dens at all times. If it is necessary for the Den Leader to leave a den for a brief time, another adult must be present and agree to watch the den while the Leader is gone. 12. A copy of the camp emergency procedures will be available in every activity area. 13. No smoking in the camp activity areas or within sight of any of the campers. Note, the Last Frontier Council now has banned tobacco use on any council property. 14. No firearms, alcoholic beverages, fireworks, or illegal drugs are allowed anywhere on BSA property. 15. When in doubt about a situation, ask yourself how to apply the Boy Scout Oath, or Boy Scout Law.
