1 Native Banner / Java Fix This help aid provides detailed instructions for removing new Java updates and installing the correct version of Java (Java version 7.40) for proper Native Banner operation. This help aid is divided into three sections. The first section pertains to uninstalling Java updates while the second and third sections contain information on installing Java to either IE or Firefox. This fix currently only works for either Internet Explorer or Firefox. Google Chrome is not currently supported for use with Native Banner operations. Uninstalling Java Updates Note: Make sure work in any open browsers is saved, as uninstalling Java will require all browsers to be closed to completely to uninstall the latest update. 1. Navigate to the Control Panel located on the start menu, and click to open it, as shown in figure 1. Figure 1 2. Under the Programs category, select Uninstall a program, as shown in figure 2. 2 3. Find and highlight the Java 7 Update 51 (your update # may be different) from the list, and select Uninstall, as shown in figure 3. Figure 3 You have now successfully uninstalled the latest Java updates. Close the Control Panel and open Native Banner in the browser of your choice (Internet Explorer or Firefox). Proceed to the section of this help aid that pertains to installing Java for your browser. Important Note: Updating to the correct Java version for Native Banner, requires you to open Native Banner and let the program select the correct Java version. Using Internet Explorer browser 1. Open Internet Explorer and navigate to and click the Native Banner link. During the log in process, you are prompted with a Java update notification, which will look like the picture shown below in figure 4. Figure 4 2. Click on the install button as shown in figure 5. 3 3. The Java installation window opens. Click on the Install button to continue as shown in figure 6. Figure 6 4. Make sure the two check boxes are NOT checked and click on the Next button as shown in figure 7. Figure 7 5. Now that Java is finished installing the version 7.40 update, click on the close button as shown in figure 8. Figure 8

4 6. As you continue the Native Banner log in process, you are prompted with a Java Update Needed warning box. Check the box next to Do not ask again until the next update is available (at the bottom), and click on Later as shown in figure 9. Figure 9 7. Two more security warnings, Application Blocked by Security Settings and The application cannot be run pop up before you reach the log in screen. Click on the OK button on both warning boxes. Using Firefox browser Firefox is not currently recommended as a browser for Native Banner access because users must manually update Java to version To update Java for Firefox follow the steps below:

Navigate to the download folder by clicking on the download folder short cut button, located at the top right hand corner of the browser window as shown in figure 14. B. Click the Java update file that was downloaded as shown in figure 15. Figure 14 Figure After the Java installer launches, click on the Install button as shown in figure 16 below.

6 Figure Uncheck both check boxes that ask to install an additional toolbar and change your settings. Click on the Next button as shown in figure 17. Figure Click on the close button once the install is complete as shown in figure 18.

7 Figure The Log in box is displayed and log into banner as normal. Note: If prompted with This plugin is vulnerable and should be updated message you must allow the exception. To allow the exception, click on the red Lego block with a minus sign, located in the address bar of the browser, and select Allow and Remember as shown in figure 19 below. Figure 19

8 8. As you continue the Native Banner log in process, you are prompted with a Java Update Needed warning box. Don t Use Google Chrome Google Chrome is not currently compatible with the current version of Java when trying to access Natiave Banner. Please use Internet Explorer or Firefox until further notice.
